The stretchable fabric laminate includes a stretchable composite material layer consisting of a hydrophobic protective layer of a porous polymeric material on each side of a layer of hydrophilic water-vapor-permeable synthetic polymer. The composite material layer is laminated to at least one layer of stretchable fabric. The stretchable layered fabric laminate has excellent stretch and recovery properties in both machine and transverse directions, and is useful for the manufacture of form-fitting articles of protective clothing and other end uses.

Abstract: In this invention an aqueous seeded microemulsion polymerization procedure is provided in which colloidal polymer particles are produced from tetrafluoroethylene or tetrafluoroethylene/comonomer or other polymerizable monomers. The particles have an average diameter between 1 to 100 nanometer (0.001-0.1 micrometer) preferably 1 to 80 (0.001-0.08 micrometer), more preferably 5 to 100 nanometer (0.005-0.1 micrometer). A microemulsion is formed of a liquid monomer in water and a gaseous monomer is added either before or after polymerization is initiated.
Abstract: A flexible, insertable vent cover is formed from a flexible, resilient material. The cover has a through passageway; a gas-permeable, liquid-impermeable membrane traversing the passageway; a diaphragm valve covering the membrane; and an annular securing ring that maintains the valve in a protective position with respect to the membrane in order to protect the membrane from immersion in or impingement by liquid.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a lyophilization process involving the use of a cap intended for vials or use therewith for containers that are subjected to lyophilization conditions where the cap, which may be resiliently helped in place or screwed on, includes a plug member movable within a fluid passageway in the cap, the plug member while positioned in the fluid passageway is movable between a first upwardly extending venting position and second downwardly engaging, sealing position whereby fluid from the vial or container is precluded from flowing through the fluid passageway in the cap.
Abstract: Waterproof, breathable footwear with an upper connected to an insole, the upper having an outside layer formed of an outer upper material and an inside layer constructed of a waterproof, water vapor-permeable functional layer and a liner material in which on the bottom end of the upper, the inside layer extends about 5 mm beyond the outside layer. Only the bottom end of inside layer is sewn to insole. The bottom end of outside layer is glued to the inside layer by an adhesive. An outsole is injection molded onto the insole, and the bottom ends of inside and outside layers.
Abstract: A porous composite material made of porous electrically conductive materials coated with or laminated to porous hydrophobic or oleophobic materials. The porous composite material has excellent electromagnetic radiation shielding properties and resists passage of particles through it while permitting air or other gases to flow through it.
Abstract: Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) structures are described which are prepared by polymerizing liquid tetrafluoroethylene in an aqueous microemulsion region to obtain small particles of PTFE.
Abstract: A gas monitoring apparatus with a heatable hose assembly having a central polymer tube of polyether ether ketone wrapped with a layer of polymer tape is described which is used to provide hot gases to a gas monitoring device. Heating elements for heating the central polymer tube can be arranged on the layer of polymer tape as can be an element for monitoring and controlling the element for heating the central polymer tube. Surrounding the arrangement can be a layer of thermal insulation and a protective jacket. The assembly is of utility for use in systems for the monitoring of acid gases from emission stacks.
Abstract: There is provided a process for producing conductive areas through selected portions of the Z axis of a porous planar material. In the process, the planar material is sensitized to the reception of electroless metal with an electroless metal deposition solution. The planar material is provided throughout the selected Z axis areas with a metal salt composition which on exposure to radiant energy, such as light, electron beams, x-ray, and the like, so as to convert the metal cations to metal nuclei. The metal nuclei is then displaced with a more stable metal, such as palladium and then the material is electrolessly plated. The metalized planar material is then imbibed with a resin at such a percentage so that adhesion is provided between two substrates without loss of conductivity in the Z axis.
Abstract: This invention provides a high-density planar contact array capable of interconnecting various electronic devices using a pad to pad approach or pad to pin, which is capable of accommodating non-coplanarity in the Z axis of printed circuit boards but which still maintains good electrical contact. The array comprises an insulative substrate sheet that has a plurality of parallel conductive lines terminating in a pad over a hole in the substrate.
Abstract: An ostomy filter for colostomy and ileostomy bags is gas-permeable to allow venting, and liquid-impermeable to prevent leakage. It includes a hydrogen sulphide adsorbent to remove smells. The filter comprises 9 to 50% by weight of particles of unsintered granular polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), 30 to 82% by weight of particles of comminuted sintered expanded porous PTFE, and 9 to 30% by weight of particulate water-insoluble H.sub.2 S adsorbent. The particles are fused together by baking at elevated temperature to form a gas-permeable liquid-impermeable network. The comminuted sintered expanded porous PTFE is preferably formed by comminuting uniaxially expanded PTFE fibre.
Abstract: A composite gasket material composed of a core of elongated polytetrafluoroethylene wrapped with a high strength porous expanded polytetrafluoroethylene film is provided. The composite gasket material exhibits increased resistance to creep while in use so that thickness of the composite gasket material and thus gasket stress is maintained.
