  • Patent number: 4614333
Abstract: Devices for stiffening automotive vehicle coil springs comprise spacers positionable between one or more adjacent convolutions of the springs. The spacers offer no or very minimal resistance to limited compressions of the springs, but an increased resistance to increased compressions. They do not interfere with the standard manufactured height of the springs or vehicle, and under normal driving conditions the vehicle rides smoothly on its suspension. However, under severe conditions, causing sufficient compressions of the springs, the spacers stiffen the reaction of the springs for increased roadability, handling and safety.

  • Patent number: 4599777
Abstract: Apparatus for separating two rolls of paper which are interconnected end-to-end, is characterized by a pair of arms pivotally connected at their upper ends and carrying inwardly facing wedges at their lower ends. The arms are advantageously mounted on wheels to facilitate transport of the same, and a hydraulic cylinder extends between the arms intermediate the pivotal connection and wedges. To separate two interconnected paper rolls lying on a floor, the apparatus is positioned to straddle the rolls with inner edges of the wedges aligned on opposite sides of the rolls with the juncture therebetween, whereupon the hydraulic cylinder is actuated to pull the arms together and move the wedges into the juncture to forcefully separate the rolls one from the other.

  • Patent number: 4595549
Abstract: An improved capsule and clamping apparatus and a method of using the same are disclosed. The capsule has a filling end and specimen end with a preformed opening at its filling end. The capsule has portions on the filling end for holding the capsule in a perpendicular position on a slide or the like so that the capsule may be clamped perpendicular in sealed relationship with the slide. Embedding material can then be poured into the filling end of the capsule for quickly preparing an accurate, embedded specimen block for later use, such as preparing sections, and particularly thick sections (1 to 6 microns) on a microtome machine, for microscopic examination.

  • Patent number: 4562747
Abstract: A sampler for communicating with the interior of a vessel containing dry granular or powder materials extracts a sample of the material and conveys it to a point of collection. The sampler includes a tubular probe having an inlet opening toward an inner end and the probe is reciprocable into and out of the vessel for a flow of material into the inlet and through the probe to an outlet from the probe. To assist the material flow a jet of fluid is introduced into the inner end of the probe to aspirate material into the inlet opening and convey it through the probe, and when the probe is retracted from the vessel the jet purges the same of residual material. One or more valves are provided to control the jet of fluid and enable a momentary flow of fluid outwardly of the inlet opening when the probe is retracted to clear the opening of any material lodged therein.
