Abstract: An apparatus and method for ballasting and de-ballasting a vessel having a hull with a plurality of watertight ballast compartments wherein each ballast compartment has an individual pump caisson extending vertically to the top of the hull, but the ballast/de-ballast system contains no valves within the hull. An external caisson is used to provide a source of seawater. Several submersible pumps are available for rigging into and out of the internal and external caissons and provide the ballast and de-ballast operations via an installed manifold system at the top of the columns. Venting of the ballast tanks may be accomplished through a connection to atmosphere near the top of the pump caissons.
Abstract: An omni direction vehicle with a frame having a round surface about its perimeter with no apparatus mounted on the frame extending beyond the perimeter. Two independent drive wheels located on an axis through the center of the frame are mounted at the same distance from a central vertical axis through the frame. Each wheel is powered independently of the other and can rotate at variable speeds in either direction. The vehicle is capable of movement in any direction by rotating the axis of the drive wheels to a position which is perpendicular to the desired direction of travel. The vehicle can spin about its vertical axis such that the axis of the drive wheels can be oriented at any direction without changing the original footprint of the space that the frame occupies over the ground. Thus, the vehicle requires a zero turning radius and requires only the space it occupies to change its forward orientation.
Abstract: A method and software are disclosed for processing data values of a data array at equally spaced locations in two dimensions where the desired data values are nulls in the data array. The method and software first searches for linear ranges of contiguous nulls, and then performs incidental interpolation of all points in such range.
Abstract: A swing arm type chain support with a hook arrangement integral with a swing arm which allows a mooring chain to ratchet over the hook while tensioning, then automatically engage the hook when tension is reduced.
Abstract: A return bend temperature sensor configured to mount on a curved section of a tube. The sensor comprises a clip, the clip having a resilient arm with a contour for fitting over a curved section of pipe, and a mounting well for holding a thermal sensing device such as a thermistor, resistance temperature detector or thermocouple. The thermal sensing device is fitted into the mounting well with a thermally conductive epoxy. The outer surface of the clip is covered with molded plastic such that the clip can easily side over and grasp a curved section of tube commonly found in the return coil of a refrigeration coil.
Abstract: A thermal zone demand controlled air conditioning fan coil unit using dual cascade arranged heat pumps, chilled water, or a combination of chilled water and hot water, with or without back up electric resistance heat strips, and having an air circulation system for circulating air to and from a plurality of thermal zones and including a conditioned air chamber having first and second heat exchange refrigerant coils or direct or reversed cycle water coils being connected in refrigerant circulating relation respectively with the heat pumps, chilled water coil. A plurality of thermal zone blowers conduct conditioned air from the conditioned air chamber to respective thermal zones of a building space. Electronic controller circuitry of the system is coupled for thermal demand control of the heat pumps and the thermal zone blowers for operation of the first heat pump during average thermal load and for operation of both heat pumps during greater thermal load.

Abstract: An indicator device captured between couplers of ends of firehose sections that point to the source of the firehose and to safety. The preferred embodiment includes gasket-like annular body which fits over the male threads of the male coupler and is captured between annular ends of the abutting male and female coupler bodies. Direction pointing fingers, integral with the annular body, point backward toward the hose section to which the male coupler is attached and are angularly oriented to fit between longitudinal lugs of the male coupler.

Abstract: A streamer cable connector including a cylindrical inner race and an outer race with a cavity formed therein to capture the inner race. The outer race has leading and trailing fairings to minimize abrupt structural changes along the longitudinal length of the connector in order to minimize self-generated noise as the streamer cable is pulled through the water. The fairings are fabricated of compliant material so that the connector can be wound around a reel while under tension to inhibit damage to the inner race or to the cable itself.
Abstract: This bag includes an improvement in the form of an extendable drain tube that is normally retracted and retained in flat coiled condition against the front wall of the bag. The tube is biased into its coiled condition by the elastic memory of the thermoplastic material from which it is formed and, in a preferred embodiment, the flat coil is oval-shaped with its major axis extending generally vertically when the bag is worn. A retention strap attached to the front wall of the bag serves to hold the drain tube in its coiled condition against the bag's front wall. A valve is located at a distal end of the drain tube, which is used to control drainage. The location of the valve prevents spillage of residual urine upon recoil of the drain tube.
Abstract: A two-piece apparatus available in varying widths for ventilating the attic space of a building with a pitched roof, comprising a base formed by a plate with angled tracks surrounding a opening therein to be first mounted over an opening in the roof, and a hood which covers the openings from water ingress and which is designed and arranged to slide into and be captured by said angled tracks without the use of additional fasteners. The hood contains a screened opening which faces the leeward side. Two-step installation allows the base to be fastened from the rooftop in locations internal to the vent.
Abstract: A multichannel WDM transmission system incorporates a plurality of WDM optical sources with stabilized wavelengths and light intensity. Efficient stabilization of these characteristics is achieved by modulation of WDM sources by distinguishing low frequency electrical signals in a range between 1 and 4 kHz and modulation depth in a range between 1% and 5% that are used as WDM source identifiers. After the modulated outputs of the WDM sources are multiplexed and filtered, a Fourier transform of total light intensity may be obtained. Digital feedbacks provide stabilization of both the wavelength and light intensity of each WDM optical source.
