Patent number: 7993096Abstract: The present invention concerns a wind turbine having a plurality of vertically extending airfoils forming a rotating carousel rotating about a central axis thereof. The airfoils pivot about their leading edges to adjust the pitch angle thereof to maximize energy harvest when the airfoils are rotating both in an upwind direction and in a down wind direction. This pivoting movement results from trailing edges of the airfoils being pivotally secured to rigid spokes or cables of a trailing edge hub. An adjustment mechanism is pivotally mounted between a carousel hub and the trailing edge hub and is used to control the separation between a central axis of the trailing edge hub and the axis of rotation of the carousel as they co-rotate. As the carousel rotates, the offset distance between the two axes determines the maximum achievable pitch angle of each airfoil.Type: GrantFiled: July 24, 2009Date of Patent: August 9, 2011Inventors: Donald E. Patent number: 7594284Abstract: A self-propelled transport aid for wheeled structures is advantageously provided. The transport aid generally includes a chassis, a lift assembly operatively supported thereby, and preferably a wheel capturing apparatus operatively united with the lift assembly. The wheel capturing apparatus has a first configuration for receipt of a wheel upon a wheel landing of the apparatus, and a second configuration for retention of the wheel received upon the wheel landing in the first configuration, wherein the first configuration of the wheel capturing apparatus is associated with a down position thereof. Alternate means for receiving and retaining a portion of a wheeled structure are further disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: May 24, 2005Date of Patent: September 29, 2009Assignee: Nu Star Inc.Inventor: Peter W. Schuchardt

Patent number: 7254926Abstract: An apparatus and method are disclosed for attaching a deck to a building. The apparatus and method disclose a deck bracket with an L shaped bracket, a solid bar, preferably threaded at both ends, and a sheath which would surround a support member of the building. The solid bar could be of various lengths, depending upon the structure to which it will be attached. The L shaped bracket has a support piece fixedly attached to the back side of its long, vertical side, and has a threaded bore through the support piece and L shaped bracket, with which to accept one of the threaded ends of the solid bar. The short, horizontal side of the L shaped bracket would hold one or more of the deck rim joists or deck supporting beams.Type: GrantFiled: January 27, 2004Date of Patent: August 14, 2007Inventor: Barry Eldeen

Patent number: 7143633Abstract: A testing apparatus to test electrical insulating gloves is disclosed. The apparatus is a cylindrically shaped, grooved housing unit with an air outlet and an air valve that attaches to a glove inflator, such as the G-I Glove Inflator, to allow testing of various sizes of electrical insulating gloves of varying voltage ratings. The electrical insulating glove is stretched over a groove and held in place by a stretchable o-ring, thereby allowing the glove inflator to inflate the glove to a sufficient size to enable to electrical worker to inspect the glove for damage and leakage, which, if present, would decrease or eliminate the effectiveness of the glove's insulating characteristics.Type: GrantFiled: December 27, 2004Date of Patent: December 5, 2006Inventor: William D. Westerberg

Patent number: 7055978Abstract: A wearable item, such as a backpack, waistpack or other like carry-type bag or an article of clothing such as a jacket that has attached to it a flexible electroluminescent wire, capable of emitting steady or intermittent light, and further capable of emitting a multiplicity of colors, thereby making the backpack, waistpack or other like bag or article of clothing visible, and thus the wearer will be more visible and safe. The flexibility of the electroluminescent wire allows it to be attached to the backpack and clothing in a variety of ways and shapes, thereby making the backpack and clothing more visible and safe, as well as more attractive and unique.Type: GrantFiled: July 17, 2003Date of Patent: June 6, 2006Assignee: W Z Enterprises, Inc.Inventor: Amanda Marie Worthington

Patent number: 6537071Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed for automating the insertion of spherically and non-spherically shaped members on an architectural sign face into pre-drilled holes in the sign corresponding to the pattern of Braille letters designed to be formed in the sign. A device is disclosed for holding a reservoir of spherically or non-spherically shaped members, delivering the members from the reservoir pan to a spindle and hammer assembly whereby the member is forcibly inserted into the pre-drilled hole on the sign face by the spindle and hammer in an arrangement desired for accurately duplicating Braille letters.Type: GrantFiled: July 27, 2001Date of Patent: March 25, 2003Assignee: Accent Signage Systems, Inc.Inventors: Reuven Rahamim, David F. Patent number: 6319412Abstract: This invention relates to wastewater treatment, process and preferred systems for practice of the process for the removal of organic and inorganic ingredients contaminating wastewater, thereby to allow the reuse or sewer discharge of water used in various manufacturing and other processes. The process of the invention typically involves initial filtration of the wastewater and contact with a paste mixture consisting of magnesium hydroxide, aluminum hydroxide, calcium carbonate, magnesium orthophosphate, ferric sulfate, sodium hydrocarbonate, and activated carbon, the activated carbon removing organics such as dyes and the like while the paste mixture precipitates inorganics for subsequent mechanical removal. After treatment with the paste mixture, precipitating compounds are added to precipitate other inorganics. Flocculating agents are then added for further clarification purposes. Material removal then occurs by mechanical extraction including filtration, settling and the like.Type: GrantFiled: June 28, 2000Date of Patent: November 20, 2001Assignee: New Working Waters, LLCInventor: Crispen Reyna
