Patent number: 6747124Abstract: A process for working up polymer components prepared by emulsion polymerization is disclosed. The process is characterized in that coagulation of the aqueous polymer latex present after emulsion polymerization is performed using a combination of A) an aqueous solution of at least one salt selected from the group consisting of sodium chloride, calcium chloride, magnesium chloride, aluminum chloride, sodium sulfate, magnesium sulfate and aluminum sulfate, B) an aqueous solution of at least one salt of an acid selected from the group consisting of hypophosphorous acid (H3PO2), phosphorous acid (H3PO3 or HPO2) and ascorbic acid and optionally C) an aqueous dilute acid selected from the group consisting of sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid and acetic acid.Type: GrantFiled: December 14, 2001Date of Patent: June 8, 2004Assignee: Bayer AktiengesellschaftInventors: Herbert Eichenauer, Stefan Moss

Patent number: 6713181Abstract: A thermoplastic molding composition is disclosed. The composition that contains a polymer selected from the group consisting of a polycarbonate, a transparent polycarbonate-polyester-blend, a copolyestercarbonate and a transparent polyester and a compound of formula (I) and one or more compounds of formula (II) wherein a is 1 to 17, b is 0 to 16, c is 6 to 14, d is 3 to 7, e is 6 to 14, f is 3 to 7, g is 5 to 40 and a+b is 9 to 25 and n is 1 to 10, was found to be especially suitable for co-extrusion applications.Type: GrantFiled: February 3, 2003Date of Patent: March 30, 2004Assignee: Bayer AktiengesellschaftInventors: Rüdiger Gorny, Siegfried Anders, Wolfgang Nising, Wolfgang Ebert

Patent number: 6710091Abstract: A method for the preparation of nano size zinc oxide particles having an average primary particle diameter of less than or equal to 15 nm, which are redispersible in organic solvents and/or water, by basic hydrolysis of at least one zinc compound in alcohol or an alcohol/water mixture. The hydrolysis is carried out with substoichiometric amounts of base, based on the zinc compound. The precipitate which originally forms during hydrolysis is left to mature until the zinc oxide has completely flocculated. This precipitate is then thickened to give a gel and separated off from the supernatant phase.Type: GrantFiled: August 21, 2001Date of Patent: March 23, 2004Assignee: Bayer AktiengesellschaftInventors: Hermann-Jens Womelsdorf, Werner Hoheisel, Gerd Passing

Patent number: 6672519Abstract: Air-assisted, low pressure spray equipment having an improved spray nozzle including a caulking gun having a carriage adapted to receive cartridges having a nozzle, rams mounted on the caulking gun for engaging each cartridge to dispense a liquid from the nozzle, a trigger mechanism for advancing the rams into operative engagement with each cartridge; a static mixer having an inlet port for receiving a liquid component from the nozzle of each cartridge and having an optional spray tip for introducing the mixed liquid components into an atomizing zone; a static mixer shroud encasing the static mixer and an optional spray section having inlet ports for receiving pressurized air and outlet ports for introducing air into the atomizing zone. The spray tip passes through an orifice in the spray section such that the mixed liquid components are introduced into the atomizing zone. The equipment is useful for spraying a two-component composition.Type: GrantFiled: July 27, 2001Date of Patent: January 6, 2004Assignee: Bayer Polymers LLCInventors: Jack H. Hunter, Terrell Dean Wayt
