  • Patent number: 4753994
Abstract: The present invention is related to polycarbonate molding compositions containing a co-precipitate of a polycarbonate resin and a fluoropolymer. This co-precipitate was found to be suitable as an additive for polycarbonate resins because it offers improved dispersibility with the resin and good flammability performance as well as aesthetic characteristics. The co-precipitate is prepared by first mixing an aqueous dispersion of a fluoropolymer with a polycarbonate solution and then precipitating both using a suitable precipitation agent. After isolation washing and drying the co-precipitate of the invention is suitable for incorporation in a polycarbonate resin optionally with known flame retarding agents. Molded parts prepared from the compositions of the invention are characterized by their improved homogeneity and flame retardance.

  • Patent number: 4749538
Abstract: The present application is concerned with an extrusion process for an elongated stiff but bendable plastic article which finds particular utility in highway delineators. The article has a central lens shape in the cross-section perpendicular to its major axis which is formed by joining two sheets along both of their longitudinal edges. The sheets both have parallel longitudinal edges and are configured in an arc in their shorter dimension. A reverse radius is provided in each longitudinal edge just before it joins the similar edge of the other sheet to allow the article to be bent 90.degree. across its major axis in the plane of its minor axis without significant plastic deformation. The article is constructed by pressing the cooled edges of thermoplastic sheets that can sustain substantial elastic deformation.

  • Patent number: 4746533
Abstract: Metallic surfaces are coated with vitreous enamel by a process in which a cleaning pretreatment of the metal surface to remove surface oil is not required. An enamel-forming material is applied to metal surface coated with a polybutene as the surface oil. The thus-coated metal surface is fired at a temperature sufficiently high to cause the enamel-forming material to form a vitreous enamel coating. The preferred method for applying the enamel-forming material is electrostatic deposition.
