  • Patent number: 6122324
Abstract: A method for simultaneously transmitting multiple bits of information through space using a time varying reference signal at a first selected fixed frequency, and a time varying synchronizing clock signal at a second selected fixed frequency establishing a clock period. The signals are combined repeatedly to obtain a multiple of additive and subtractive signals each differing from each other by an integer multiplier of the reference signal frequency. The signals are injected into an N-fold gate which is controlled by the clock signal so as to transmit N-M of the N derivative signals through the N-fold gate during each clock cycle, where 0.ltoreq.M.ltoreq.N so as to produce an N bit word signal. The N bit signal is then mixed with a radio carrier signal for transmission of the N bit signal as a parallel transmission of the N bit signal. This process is repeated continuously to produce an N-times improvement in data transmission rate over serial transmission.

  • Patent number: 6114963
Abstract: A set of sensors or sensor pairs capable of detecting the presence of a person passing through a portal is used for monitoring the portal. In one embodiment the portal has spaced apart upright supports. On one of the upright supports is mounted the sensors and the other upright support is used as a surface for reflection of the wave energy transmitted. When a person is present in the portal the person reflects the wave energy. The receiver is capable of detecting the time duration between transmission and receipt of the wave energy signal. In a second embodiment, the sensors are mutually inductively coupled in pairs. When a person is present within the portal the mutual inductance is changed in one or more of the sensor pairs. This change in mutual inductance is sensed and used as a means for determining which person is present in the portal. For example, a family may comprise two adults, a teenager, a preteen and a small child.

  • Patent number: 6112151
Abstract: A pollution control method and apparatus devices which have two or more modes of operation in an air breathing engine. One mode of operation optimizes the constituents of engine exhaust fractions for global environmental benefits when a vehicle is operated in a clean air attainment area. A second or additional modes of operation optimize the engine exhaust fractions for ultra-low emission of ozone precursors and other air pollutants, when and where necessary to achieve local ambient air quality standards, in a clean air non-attainment area. The present invention provides methods for receiving commands over a national range and of automatically switching modes to achieve optimal performance.

  • Patent number: 6079182
Abstract: The present invention provides a floor board compressing apparatus and method of use for compressing and tightening a plurality of abutting floor boards. The apparatus has a reel rotationally engaged in a reel housing. An inextensible and flexible tape coiled on and attached to the reel extends to a first hook which attaches to the first end of the boards to be compressed. A second hook is pivotally attached to the reel housing and attaches to the opposing end of the floor boards. A handle which is pivotally engaged to the reel is used to turn the reel within the reel housing so as to draw the first hook toward the second hook. The reel housing preferably includes a plurality of holes and the handle provides a locking peg. After winding in all of the flexible tape by turning the handle, the handle is then rocked on its pivot for engaging and disengaging the locking peg with any one of the locking holes. After the tape has been tightened and locked into place, the reel housing is pushed laterally.

  • Patent number: 6079052
Abstract: A cap or visor provides for side flaps that may be folded upwardly so as to be out of the sight of the wearer and may alternately be folded downwardly for shading the side and front of the face and upper neck. In either case the forward extending ends of the flaps may be joined with either the upper portion of the cap or headband portion of a visor, or with the free end of the visor portion in at least two different positions so as to adjust the level of shading or to adjust the position of the flaps with respect to the upper portion of the cap. The flaps provide shading protection along the sides of the head as well as forward of the face along both sides of the visor. In an alternative embodiment the side flaps are attached to the cap or visor by Velcro.RTM. fastener material.

  • Patent number: 6074316
Abstract: A split sprocket is formed in two opposing half sprocket parts of essentially identical conformation and structure. The halves, when married, form a typical sprocket which may also be a gear or drive pulley. A ring is adapted to engage a circular groove on each side of the sprocket so as to assure the two halves cannot part. A pair of screws also engages the two halves so as to firmly join them. One of the rings may have a cylindrical extension which when fitted into the sprocket adapts the sprocket for being mounted onto a smaller shaft. Each half of the sprocket may be fitted with a tongue and a tongue groove for aligning and maintaining alignment of the two halves.

  • Patent number: 6069434
Abstract: A spark electrode assembly and method of assembling same is disclosed. A ceramic housing having a cylindrical passage provides clearance for a conductive metal electrode. The electrode has a tubular body with rod shaped wires inserted at each end, the wires extending outwardly from the tubular body at each of its ends colinearly. During assembly, the wires are crimped into the tubular body in such a manner that the tubular body is deformed outwardly forming bosses. The bosses are of such a size as to cause an interference fit between the tubular body and the housing passage so that the electrode is captured within the housing. An impact force on the electrode forces the tubular body to expand radially outwardly, thereby further engaging the ceramic housing for holding the electrode in the housing. That part of the electrode body that is not in contact with the housing still has ample room to expand within the housing.
