  • Patent number: 6612262
Abstract: A device for tattooing an animal such as a rodent includes a tweezers-shaped body having resilient arms with free ends, which can be squeezed together and when released will return to a spaced apart, rest position. A needle carried by the free end of one arm is aligned with a hole in the free end of the other arm, so that when an area of animal, e.g. a rodent toe, is placed between the fee ends and the arms are pressed together, the needle penetrates the animal to deposit ink beneath the skin of the animal.

  • Patent number: 6578523
Abstract: Mussels are commonly grown on ropes which have been seeded with immature molluscs. Past techniques for farming mussels have suffered from low product yields because of the low surface area of a mussel rope, and mussel detachment from the rope. Existing devices for solving these problems are cumbersome and difficult to use. The present invention solves the problems by providing a mussel farming device including a planar body with a slot in one side thereof for receiving a rope or mesh bag, an aperture at the center of the body, and a clip in the aperture for attaching the body to the rope or bag. A plurality of such devices are attached to a rope or bag at intervals along its length, thereby providing a large surface area for mussel attachment and creating stable platforms on which the mussels can mature.

  • Patent number: 6501203
Abstract: A vibration control apparatus designed specifically for use on space vehicles includes a stator for mounting in the vehicle, a lower flotor, magnetically levitated on the stator, an upper flotor nested in and magnetically levitated on the lower flotor, and position, orientation and motion sensors carried by the stator and flotors. When any changes in position, orientation or movement, i.e. vibration of apparatus is detected, magnetic force actuators are energized to compensate for such changes to keep a work platform on the upper flotor virtually vibration-free. Moreover, controlled and induced vibration of the work platform and an experiment carried thereby can be effected using the lower flotor as a reaction mass, i.e. without feedback to the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 6477878
Abstract: A machine for producing a corrugated wheel spacer for use between tandem truck wheels includes top and bottom corrugated rollers which are driven in synchronism with an annular spacer blank therebetween to corrugate the blank. The top roller is suspended from a carriage for vertical movement towards and away from the bottom roller so that an annular blank can be placed on the bottom roller when the rollers are spaced apart and the rollers can be moved together to effect a corrugating operation.

  • Patent number: 6436290
Abstract: The invention disclosed relates to a method and apparatus for separating a mixture containing an aqueous liquid and an immiscible organic phase using microporous hollow fibers. Such mixtures are separated into a substantially organic-free aqueous phase and a substantially aqueous-free organic phase. The mixture is pressurized in a controlled low shear manner to minimize emulsification as it is contacted with the fibers. Productivity is enhanced by separating as a third product stream, a further organic phase containing only small amounts of an aqueous phase, which for some applications can usefully be combined with the substantially aqueous-free organic phase. Other ways for enhancing productivity are also disclosed.
