  • Patent number: 7645894
Abstract: The invention relates to continuous processes for making cyclic dimethylsiloxane oligomers by reacting in situ methyl bromide, dimethyl ether and activated silicon particles in a direct process reaction zone to produce methylsiloxanes, wherein the proportion of dimethylsiloxane produced in said reaction zone is greater than 75 mole % of the methylsiloxanes produced and recovering the dimethylsiloxane from the reactions zone. The invention favors making cyclic dimethylsiloxane oligomers by this in situ direct reaction.

  • Patent number: 5374820
Abstract: A lens system comprising a frame that fixes to a head of a user of the lens system. Associated with the system are first and second magnifiers that are movable with respect to each other and with respect to the frame. The first and second magnifiers have respective oculars and objectives. The magnifiers are associated with a distance measuring means for measuring the distance from the user to an object to be viewed by the user. They provide a connected control unit with a signal representative of the distance. Driving means connected to the control unit are provided. The control unit provides the driving means with a control signal in response to the signal received from the distance measuring means. There are first displacement transferring means connected to the driving means for displacing the objectives with respect to the first and the second ocular. The focal length of each magnifier is adapted to the distance measured by the distance measuring means.

  • Patent number: 5338847
Abstract: Described are a class of chemiluminescent compound characterized by the presence an aryl ester, thioester or amide of a carboxylic acid substituted heterocyclic ring that is susceptible to chemical attack (such as by oxidic attack) to dissociate the heterocyclic ring to a transient compound. The heterocyclic ring is ring carbon-bonded to the carbonyl of the ester, thioester and amide moiety and possesses a heteroatom in an oxidation state that allows chemiluminescence by dissociating a compound ("intermediate") that decays to produce chemiluminescence, at the carbon bonded to the carbonyl. The aryl ring or ring system is ring carbon-bonded to the oxygen, sulfur or nitrogen of the ester, thioester or amide, as the case may be, and contains at least three substituents on a six-member ring. The substitution on the six-member ring comprises three or more groups acting in concert to sterically and electronically hinder hydrolysis of the ester, thioester or amide linkage.

  • Patent number: 5333920
Abstract: A clip system for clamping a panel element against a rebate comprises a bolt which is movable between a first position for clamping the panel element against a rebate and a second position for releasing the panel element, and an operating mechanism for moving the bolt. According to the invention, depending on the position of the bolt, there is a variable transmission ratio between the operating mechanism and the bolt, with a reduction which increases as the bolt in a path near the first position nears said first position. Operation of the bolt consequently requires little force and can be carried out with a short movement. The clip system can be achieved by a simple construction requiring little maintenance.

  • Patent number: 5300262
Abstract: The process of reproducibly making a wholly spuncasted, non-truncated, ballasted soft contact lens containing a compound anterior surface. The process comprises spincasting a polymer-forming, lens forming monomeric mixture in a cavity mold having a surface that is offset to allow for generation of a prismatic ballast, a compound curvature and a central axis that is symmetrical to the peripheral edge of the lens being formed. This is done by rotating the monomer mixture in the mold whereby the mixture replicates the mold's surface while at the same time undergoes polymerization and forms a prismatic lens with the central axis of its posterior surface symmetrical to its peripheral edge, a corneal bowl free of the compound curvature and possessing a thickness profile that is asymmetrical with respect to its geometric center.
