  • Patent number: 6251681
Abstract: Tissue (10) from the colon or bowel is pretreated with a Ringers solution and mounted onto a ring (12) submerged in oxygenated Ringers solution (32), with first and second current electrodes (34,36) and first and second voltage electrodes (38,40) positioned within the solution (32) closely adjacent the tissue. A sequence of current pulses of different frequencies (44) covering a broad frequency range are applied via electrodes (34,36) to the tissue and corresponding impedance and resistance values are obtained (46). Comparison of impedance/resistance values establishes separate and distinct ranges of values for normal, cancerous and premalignant tissues.

  • Patent number: 6093896
Abstract: A system (10) for establishing bypass of a failed battery cell (18) includes a failed cell sensor (26) which on sensing a failed cell generates an electric signal that destroys clamping relation of two retaining wire spools (24) to release retaining means (14,16). Such release enables a unitary plunger assembly (28) to be moved by a spring (49) to position a cylindrical pin contact (52) in electrical shorting relation to the first and second electrodes (57,58) connected across the cell (18).

  • Patent number: 6085369
Abstract: A cushion (10, 12) has a plenum (16) which includes a plurality of flexible plastic woven tubes (34) held within a pair of similarly woven sheathes (38,40). The plenum has its sides and bottom covered by an air impermeable (14) layer with the top covered by an air permeable layer (20). A low to medium density foam pad (19) is located between the plenum (16) and the top layer (20). Conditioned air is provided to the cushions (10,12) from a Stirling cycle heat pump (44).

  • Patent number: 6012201
Abstract: A door hinge pad (12) and body hinge pad (14) are respectively mounted on the door and body of an automotive vehicle, and interrelated for relative swinging movement by a pivot pin (16). A pair of spaced apart camming surfaces 30 integral with the door hinge pad (12) are resiliently tracked by first and second rollers (68) connected to opposite ends of a compression spring (66) integrally related to the body hinge pad (14). Swinging movement of the door hinge pad (12) away from the closed position moves the rollers (68) over a camming raised portion into a dwell (34) serving as a limit stop at a predetermined door opening angle.
