    Abstract: A system for extracting the complex Fourier coefficients from an unknown RF signal to classify the RF signal is disclosed. The extraction system utilizes optical signal processing in combination with the generation of electronic timing and control signals. The system employs an optical processor comprising a Bragg cell to yield the Fourier coefficients including the amplitude, phase and frequency parameters thereof. The system further includes a parallel arrangement that provide for parallel processing to reduce the computational time needed to determine the complex Fourier coefficients including the amplitude, phase and frequency parameters thereof.

    Abstract: A spin injected diode suitable for nonvolatile memory applications is made of a semiconducting channel capable of carrying current, a single ferromagnetic layer, and a barrier layer between the semiconducting channel and the ferromagnetic layer to protect the integrity of the semiconducting layer and to inhibit interdiffusion of the ferromagnetic material and the semiconductor. During diode readout the output modulation of the diode can be sensed either as the interface resistance between the semiconducting channel and the ferromagnetic layer, or as the output voltage between the semiconducting channel and the ferromagnetic layer when flowing current through the channel and not through the interface. Two of these spin injected diodes can be combined to form a spin injected field effect transistor. This transistor has a first ferromagnetic layer having a first coercivity and a second ferromagnetic layer having a second coercivity smaller than the first coercivity which are spaced apart.

    Abstract: The Intelligent Hypersensor Processing System (IHPS) is a system for the rapid detection of small, weak, or hidden objects, substances, or patterns embedded in complex backgrounds, providing fast adaptive processing for demixing and recognizing patterns or signatures in data provided by certain types of “hypersensors”. SERENE introduces an improved noise reduction algorithm useful on systems which use hypersensors such as IHPS, or other systems which use sensors which are hyper or multi spectral. The SERENE technique may be employed through out the Learning Module Processor pipelining and further processes the data stream to filter intrinsic and extrinsic noise, and minimize exemplar noise effects in the exemplar set. This system represents an alternative to prior systems for hidden object detection by solving the problems encountered when attempting to detect hidden objects/targets in dynamic scenarios at real-time.

    Abstract: Films of thermoplastic material may be sealed together by application of a radio frequency field through a pair of oppositely positioned electrodes. Preferred thermoplastic materials have a low dielectric dissipation factor, and such materials include polyethylene. The sealing apparatus includes a circuit having compensation and matching circuits for providing resonant operation and minimizing the amount of reflected energy from the electrodes. Through the use of this invention effective RF sealing is produced-between films of thermoplastic material having a low dielectric dissipation factor. Further the sealing apparatus preferably includes at least one electrode coated with a ceramic and a release material for providing thermal conduction to the films, thereby enhancing the sealing effectiveness of the apparatus.

    Abstract: A vacuum skin package for packaging fresh red meat and like articles is produced by using a composite, multilayer, oxygen barrier, vacuum skin packaging forming film in which the impermeable film can be manually separated from the non-barrier, oxygen permeable film. After the vacuum skin package is formed to enclose a fresh red meat product in a vacuum the meat will have a purplish color. Then, after storage, the impermeable film can be removed so that the remaining permeable film can admit oxygen to impart the desirable red bloom to the fresh meat. The oxygen permeable film preferably includes a core having enhanced permeation properties. The impermeable film preferably includes an EVOH layer sandwiched between ionomer layers for improved barrier properties.

    Abstract: Bromide ion content in a photographic developer is an important variable to be controlled by photoprocessors who process color reversal material or color negative film. The bromide content of such developers can be determined by titration with silver ion, using tetraiodophenolsulfonephthalein (TIPS) or other suitable adsorption indicator, after the developer has been acidified with an organic acid such as citric acid. This titrimetric method can be adapted for use in a test kit which is designed for use by photoprocessors who otherwise lack the chemical sophistication to readily conduct analysis by titration, or who have the necessary sophistication, but wish to gain the benefits and convenience available from use of a test kit specifically designed for conducting the analytical method.
