  • Patent number: 7911648
Abstract: A printer operates under a first set of conditions to create a first set of M of samples and under a target set of conditions to create a second set of K samples. Each sample is produced using the same colorant(s). The actual spectral reflectance for each sample is measured. The actual reflectances for corresponding samples in the first and second sets are used to create a cross-validated, partial-least-squares transform that maps a reflectance from a sample produced under the first set of conditions to a reflectance from a sample produced under the target set of conditions. The transform and reflectances produce a set of predicted reflectances, each representing a sample producible under the target set of conditions using one colorant. The predicted reflectances and the colorant(s) are used to generate a table predicting a color value when the printer operates under the target set of conditions.

  • Patent number: 7477394
Abstract: A method for measuring a color property of a pressurized flowing liquid is characterized by contacting the liquid under test against a transparent partition spaced a predetermined distance from a transparent window. The partition has an index of refraction and a thickness dimension that is less than that of the window. At least some of the radiation reflected from the liquid undergoes total internal reflection within the partition while, simultaneously, evanescent coupling of that reflected radiation into the material of the window is prevented. Evanescent coupling into the material of the window is prevented by: i) disposing a medium having an index of refraction less than that of the partition between the window and the partition, and ii) maintaining the spacing between the window and the partition to a distance not less than three (3) times the wavelength of the interrogating radiation.

  • Patent number: 7467047
Abstract: A method of discovering one or more patterns in two sequences of symbols S1 and S2 includes the formation, for each sequence, of a master offset table that groups for each symbol the position in the sequence occupied by each occurrence of that symbol. The difference in position between each occurrence of a symbol in one of the sequences and each occurrence of that same symbol in the other sequence is determined and a Pattern Map is formed. For each given value of a difference in position the Pattern Map lists the position in the first sequence of each symbol therein that appears in the second sequence at that difference in position. The collection of the symbols tabulated for each value of difference in position thereby defines a parent pattern in the first sequence that is repeated in the second sequence.

  • Patent number: 6941287
Abstract: A distributed hierarchical evolutionary modeling and visualization of empirical data method and machine readable storage medium for creating an empirical modeling system based upon previously acquired data. The data represents inputs to the systems and corresponding outputs from the system. The method and machine readable storage medium utilize an entropy function based upon information theory and the principles of thermodynamics to accurately predict system outputs from subsequently acquired inputs. The method and machine readable storage medium identify the most information-rich (i.e., optimum) representation of a data set in order to reveal the underlying order, or structure, of what appears to be a disordered system. Evolutionary programming is one method utilized for identifying the optimum representation of data.

  • Patent number: 6726976
Abstract: A concentrate of binder at the tufts produces a lighter and more flexible carpet, which allows for direct attachment of hook-and-loop means on the carpet backing. Thermoplastic binder yarns are pinned by the pile yarns against the primary backing. Subsequent application of heat melts the binder yarns and fuses the tufts and primary backing together. An alternate embodiment uses highly shrinkable binder sheet placed over the backing before tufting, instead of the binder yarns.

  • Patent number: 6367109
Abstract: An apparatus for cleaning a floor surface having weight support members thereon for carrying the weight of the apparatus into the floor surface includes a brush having a baseplate with an array of bristles. The brush has a plurality of supply passages, each of which communicates with a portion of the bristle array. The brush is attached to a motor shaft in such a way that, in use, the brush is responsive to irregularities in the floor surface as the apparatus is moved thereover by moving in a direction generally parallel to a centerline of rotation and/or in a plane generally perpendicular thereto. A baffle mounted to the top surface of the brush so as to surround the supply passages. In use, a foam cleaning agent is dispensed onto a location on the top surface of the brush inwardly of the supply passages.

  • Patent number: 4532501
Abstract: A safety system for a machine tool is characterized by a capacitively coupled electric field generator (transmitter) and a capacitive receptor antenna. An electrical signal is induced in the capacitive receptor antenna by the action of the electric field. The magnitude of the induced signal is monotonically related to the distance between the electric field generator and the capacitive receptor antenna. When the magnitude of the electrical signal exceeds a predetermined threshold, a machine tool safety indicator is developed.
