  • Patent number: 4323140
Abstract: A novel safety platform for use in a vertical shaft such as a manhole. The platform comprises a pair of support beams with the ends of each support beam mounted in the wall of the shaft. At least one panel extends across the shaft and bridges the support beams with a novel wedge clip at one end of the panel to allow the panel to be opened or secured in the closed position. A novel pivotting means is provided at the other end of the panel which pivotally secures the panel to the opposite support beam. The platform may be installed easily with fewer problems than the prior art yet provides increased safety factors for the user.

  • Patent number: 4258513
Abstract: A space enclosing structure, the underlying shape of which is a portion of a polyhedron comprised of a regular arrangement of regular pentagons, equilateral triangles, right angled parallelograms and rhombi. The structure permits the use of square or rectangular standardized prefabricated square or rectangular building units, such as doors, windows, solar panels, etc., without any alteration of the basic shape of the structure, as such prefabricated units may be used to replace any of the square or rectangular faces of the polyhedron. Each face other than a right angled parallelogram is abutted on each side by a right angled parallelogram. Each right angled parallelogram is abutted on two opposite sides by rhombi and on the other two sides by a pentagon and a triangle.

  • Patent number: 4256584
Abstract: This invention relates to an improved injection molding filter assembly to be located between the molding machine and the mold. The assembly has an elongated inner torpedo member with a generally cylindrical outer surface which is centrally located in a passage through a hollow outer member. The passage is defined by a generally cylindrical inner wall which is interrupted by an even number of inwardly opening longitudinally extending channels. Inlet channels extending from the inlet of the assembly and dead ending adjacent the outlet alternate with outlet channels extending from the outlet of the assembly and dead ending adjacent the inlet. Uniform width elongated filtering slits are thus formed between the outer surface of the torpedo member and the lands between the inlet and outlet channels. The melt flows into the inlet channels, through the adjacent filtering slits, and out the outlet channels.

  • Patent number: 4244909
Abstract: This invention relates to injection molding and particularly to a melt transfer system for stack molding. According to the invention, a novel combination of known melt flow control valve units are arranged and operated to control the flow of pressurized melt from the stationary platen adjacent the molding machine to a manifold in the center moving platen. One control valve unit is located in the stationary platen in alignment with another control valve unit located in the moving platen. When the moving platen is in the closed position adjacent the stationary platen, the gates of the two control valve units abut and when the valve pins of the two control valve units are actuated to the open position, pressurized melt will flow through the gates from the stationary platen to the moving platen. The hot runner passage extends from the molding machine through the control valve unit located in the stationary platen.

  • Patent number: 4241543
Abstract: An improved method of manufacturing a concrete manhole casing and plugs for use therein. The method comprises fabricating a form for the manhole and securing a plurality of retractable arbors on the inside thereof. The arbors are extended through the form and a sealed plug is inserted on the end of each arbor. The concrete is poured into the form; vibrated and compacted. The arbors are withdrawn leaving the sealed plugs in place. The plugs carry a threading on their periphery and a novel locking structure on the inside surface.

  • Patent number: 4238671
Abstract: This invention relates to an improved electrically heated sprue bushing for injection molding. The sprue bushing has a central runner passage for conveying melt from the molding machine or manifold to the cavity. The runner passage extends through an elongated inner core portion having an undulating outer surface in the form of a helical ridge with a rounded cross section. A single element electrical heating element with a helical configuration is located over the core portion and an outer shell portion is cast over them to form the sprue bushing as an integral unit. The inner core portion is formed of a high strength material such as a beryllium nickel alloy and the outer shell portion is formed of a highly conductive material such as a beryllium copper alloy. The coils of the heating element are separated from each other and threaded in the opposite direction to the helical ridge on the outer surface of the core portion.

  • Patent number: 4233705
Abstract: A paint metering tray for use with conventional paint applicator rollers. The tray has a paint distribution roller spanning the width thereof, the bottom portion of which will be immersed in the paint in the tray. A paint metering bar is engaged against the length of the distribution roller to remove excess paint therefrom as the distribution roller is axially rotated. The paint is evenly and consistently applied to the applicator roller from the even distribution on the distribution roller surface.

  • Patent number: 4234080
Abstract: The invention comprises a rectangular plastic sheet which may be folded about living hinges to provide a container for holding coins and the like. The sheet is made of polypropylene or other suitable plastic material which has good living hinge qualities in thin sections. The preferred embodiment consists of three V-shaped units separated by two living hinges, which units when folded form a regular hexagonally cross-sectioned cylinder. Ledging may be provided on the end of the sheet so that when folded the ledging at least partially closes the otherwise open ends of the cylinder. A locking mechanism comprising an upwardly extending lip on a side edge of the sheet which engages a hollow behind and beneath a downwardly extending lip on the other side edge is provided. By forcing contact by the coins against the container walls when the container is closed the material is tightened against the coins and the locking mechanism becomes more tightly engaged, securing against accidental opening.

  • Patent number: 4232918
Abstract: This invention relates to an improved suspension system for filing computer paper vertically in a file drawer or cabinet. A bundle of a desired number of sheets of paper may be filed using a system having a pair of assemblies, each of which has two members to engage the upper corners of the sheets of paper. The first member of each assembly has a flat panel-like portion which extends at an upper corner thereof to define a downwardly open hook and three vertically spaced horizontally extending prongs. The second member is flat and rectangular shaped and has three vertically spaced apertures which mate to receive the three prongs therethrough. The prongs of each first member are inserted through the upper three holes along one side of the computer paper, and the second member is then located on the prongs. This is repeated on the other side with the other assembly to hold the sheets of paper in a single bundle.

  • Patent number: 4231510
Abstract: This invention relates to an improved open ended package or container which is formed from a one piece blank to hold a pair of light bulbs in an end to end relationship. The bulbs are spaced a desired distance from the open ends of the container and longitudinally retained in both directions as well as prevented from contacting each other in order to avoid breakage during shipping and storing. The one piece cardboard blank is folded and secured by adhesive strips at each end to form a rectangular sleeve having a top, bottom, two sides, two open ends, and a partition element. The partition element is provided with cut lines and fold lines to form two separating portions and two retaining portions, all of which extend across the container between the top and bottom, each in a different plane parallel to the two sides.

  • Patent number: 4228378
Abstract: This invention relates to an improved wire wound disc type armature for electric motors or generators. The armature has a disc shaped body mounted on a central shaft with a commutator formed of spaced insulated commutator elements located around it. The disc shaped body has opposing flat sides on which a predetermined number of wire windings are located. The insulated wire forming each winding extends outward from the commutator through a U-shaped wire channel on one side of the disc shaped armature and back through a corresponding wire channel on the other side. The disc shaped body of the armature is formed of high strength plastic and the wire channels are formed of laminated steel. In one embodiment, the wire then passes through an aperture in the disc shaped body associated with each winding and back out through the first wire channel and this is repeated until a winding of a desired number of turns is formed in the two channels.
