Abstract: A nozzle is disclosed having a brush adjustably mounted in it so as to be movable inwardly and outwardly of a slotted bottom plate forming member. This bottom plate forming member includes resilient, deformable tabs which pass the brush inwardly into the nozzle during forceable assembly but limit outward movement of the brush when it is moved outwardly within the nozzle.
Abstract: The invention provides an upper fill tube configuration for a vacuum cleaner that includes: a rigid upper fill tube that communicates, adjacent its upper end, with a dirt collecting receptacle; a flexible tube extending from the cleaner foot; communicating with the rigid upper fill tube and removably secured to it and a latch arrangement carried, in part, by the flexible tube and, in part, by the upper fill tube to releasably retain the two together.
Abstract: The invention provides a resiliently mounted top cap for a cleaner bag that tends to urge a bag upwardly to tighten it. At the same time, the cap may be removed downwardly against its spring bias for shaking as a dirt loosening mechanism. The cap also includes an integral cord hook so that downward movement of it against its spring bias also provides a cord dump function.
Abstract: A scent dispensing arrangement is disclosed for use in an upright vacuum cleaner having a flexible air pervious bag extending along a pivoting handle thereof and an air flow generating means which produces an air flow which is exhausted to atmosphere via the bag. A cap member is connected to a top end portion of the flexible bag and interconnected with the pivoting handle for supporting the bag at its uppermost extension along the handle. A scent dispenser is provided which includes a drawer slidably mounted in the cap member for retaining the scented material. The drawer is provided with apertures for providing a path for air flow to atmosphere with sliding movement thereof either opening or closing the path to control dispensing of the scented material.
Abstract: The invention includes a floor care appliance with a rigid housing having a pocket for nesting an accessory appliance. A latch means maintains the accessory appliance within the pocket and is releasable to permit removal of the accessory appliance.
Abstract: A dirt collecting bag is disclosed having a face plate or collar with a slotted configuration along one of its edges to aid in mechanical transfer of it from a storage magazine to a bag mounting and transfer apparatus in a vacuum cleaner.
Abstract: The invention comprehends a canister type cleaner having an intermediate piece which extends over the major horizontal extent of the cleaner and is utilized for bag chamber forming and operating element support.
Abstract: A carpet cleaning apparatus is disclosed which includes a new and improved auxiliary cleaning device arrangement incorporated in a conventional vacuum cleaner. The auxiliary cleaning device is movable into a carpet engaging position for frictionally engaging a carpet surface and simultaneously distributing cleaning material thereon which emulsify, rub, and thereby cause release of dirt, dust and other foreign particles from carpet fibers and allow their removal and collection by agitator and suction cleaning elements of the apparatus. A retraction means is provided for automatically retracting the auxiliary cleaning device in response to handle assembly movement to a storage position, and a retaining means is provided to lock the device in the retracted position. The retaining means selectively either permits movement of the device to a carpet engaging position or maintains the device in a retracted position independently of subsequent handle assembly movement.
Abstract: An upright cleaner or the like is provided with a pivoting duct that pivots outwardly of the hood of the cleaner for attachment of a conversion tool. This permits conversion of the upright cleaner to, for example, hose operation.
Abstract: The invention is provided in a floor care appliance with a rigid housing having a pocket for nesting an accessory appliance. A latch means maintains the accessory appliance within the pocket and is releasable to permit removal of the accessory appliance. The latch means includes a catch, with the floor care appliance, movable into and out of engagement with an opposite locking portion of the accessory appliance.
Abstract: A suction cleaner having a motor fan unit and a casing having a dirt bag receiving compartment closed by a bag carrier in the form of a door and having a bag mount therein in the form of an air conduit extending from the motor fan unit. A dirt collecting bag can be disposed on each of the bag carrier and the bag mount. The bag carrier and the bag mount are relatively movable towards one another to automatically cause a latching assembly to secure a bag on the bag mount, with an opening of the bag in sealing engagement with the air conduit. The bag mount is movable between a bag unloading position away from said casing, and an operative position in which the bag is carried by the bag mount away from the bag carrier.
