Abstract: A signal processing method in autoradiography for determines of the base sequence of DNA or a DNA fragment, by employing groups of radioactively labeled base specific cleavage products or mixtures thereof obtained by specifically cleaving the DNA or DNA fragment labeled with a radioactive element and resolved one-dimensionally in parallel relation to each other to form resolved rows on a support medium. An autograph is obtained having locational information on groups of radioactively labeled cleavage products contained in the rows on the support medium. An electrical digital signal corresponding to the autoradiograph is then generated. Sampling points in each resolved row of the digital signal are next detected. Reference sampling points are then determined in a plurality of reference rows which are either directly provided on the support medium and/or synthesized from certain resolved rows.
Abstract: A laser scribing system and method is described. In the system, a film formed on a substrate is irradiated with laser beam which is focused on a limited portion of the film in order to remove the portion and produce a groove. Laser beam used for eliminating the portion of film formed on a substrate is deprived of its border portion in advance of the focusing. Spherical aberration is suppressed due to this elimination.

Abstract: An improved method for depositing material on a substrate is shown. The material to be deposited is energized by irradiation with light in a chamber in which a CVD method is carried out. The energy induced by the irradiation remains in the molecules of the material even after the molecules have lain on the substrate. With the residual energy, the molecules can wander on the substrate even to a hidden surface. Due to this wandering, the deposition can be performed also on the inside of a deep cave. A semiconductor device is thereafter formed on the inside of the cave.

Abstract: A method of recording information comprising the steps of: irradiating a light-absorbing material (which is arranged in contact with a polymer blend which changes in its phase condition between a homogeneous state and a phase-separated state in response to change of its temperature across its cloud point) with a laser beam for causing the light-absorbing material to absorb energy of the beam and generate a heat, whereby elevating the temperature of the polymer blend near the light-absorbing material to a temperature of above the cloud point to change the phase condition of the polymer blend into a state which is different from the original state before the elevation of the temperature; and rapidly cooling the polymer blend to fix the polymer blend in its changed phase condition. An information recording medium preferably employed for the method is also disclosed.
Abstract: In a V-type engine, the cylinders in one of the cylinder banks are connected to a first communicating passage and the cylinders in the other cylinder bank are connected to a second communicating passage. The cylinders in each cylinder bank do not fire one after another. First and second intake air supply passages are connected to the first and second communicating passages at positions near one end of the communicating passages and extend toward the respective other ends of the communicating passages just above the communicating passages.
Abstract: A physical vapor deposition system is disclosed for routinely achieving unprecedented processing uniformity of thin films on substrates of a size comparable to or larger than the source. The system includes a plurality of substrates; a plurality of deposition, etching, and/or heating sources; a plurality of mobile in-situ process monitors for obtaining the fundamental processing profiles that characterize the processing properties of each source; and mobile fixturing responsive to the fundamental processing profiles for effecting prescribed motion scenarios of the substrate relative to the source; to thus provide the means for achieving extremely uniform as well as an unprecedented range of prescribed non-uniform final thin film processing profiles, irrespective of the size of the substrate relative to the size of the source.
Abstract: A photo CVD apparatus includes a reaction chamber, a vacuum pump, and a light source chamber disposed in the reaction chamber, the light source chamber having a light window. A light source is provided in the light source chamber for irradiating the inside of the reaction chamber through the window. A device inputs reactive gas into the reaction chamber, and an electrode is disposed in the reaction space adjacent to the window and located between the substrate and the window. A method of depositing a layer on a substrate includes the steps of disposing a substrate in a reaction chamber, introducing a reactive gas, and initiating a photo-chemical reaction to deposit the product of the reaction on the substrate by irradiating the reactive gas with light emitted from a light source through a window of a light source chamber in which the light source is disposed. The substrate is then removed from the reaction chamber, and an etchant gas is introduced into the reaction chamber.
