Patent number: 4314538Abstract: An electronic fuel control system of the type providing fuel delivery controlling signals during the period of time that at least a portion of a controlled signal maintains a preselected relationship with respect to particular value is provided with circuit means for continuously providing a variable correction factor. The injection controlling signal is produced by generating a time varying voltage which varies in a predetermined fashion following the occurrence of a triggering event. The generated voltage signal has a first or correction portion and a second or injection controlling portion. The magnitude of the first portion is modulated as a function of the time elapsed from the most recently to have occurred triggering event to provide accurate information to controllably affect fuel delivery.Type: GrantFiled: February 25, 1974Date of Patent: February 9, 1982Assignee: The Bendix CorporationInventor: Junuthula N. Patent number: 4238697Abstract: A circuit for generating an rpm responsive information signal for electronic fuel control systems designed to provide intermittent actuation of a fuel delivery system is illustrated herein. In an electronic fuel control system which relies upon excursions of a controlled voltage through a selected threshold level to generate the injection controlling signal, a circuit is provided to control the variation, as a function of engine rpm, of the initial value of the injection controlling voltage. Means are also illustrated for updating the engine rpm information at least once per engine triggering event to provide improved fuel delivery response to variations in engine rpm.Type: GrantFiled: February 15, 1972Date of Patent: December 9, 1980Assignee: The Bendix CorporationInventor: Junuthula N. Patent number: 4234903Abstract: An inductive load driver circuit comprising first and second switch means and high and low impedance load current decay means. For the duration of a load actuation signal the first switch means are responsive to the magnitude of the load current to complete and interrupt a first current path to the load to cycle the load current between first and second levels. The second switch means are enabled for the duration of the load actuation signal to complete a second current path to the load when the first switch means interrupts the first current path. When completed the second current path comprises the low impedance decay means allowing the load current to decay slowly from the first current level to the second level to provide during such slow decay a load current sufficient to maintain actuation of the inductive load.Type: GrantFiled: February 27, 1978Date of Patent: November 18, 1980Assignee: The Bendix CorporationInventor: Patrick D. Patent number: 4208991Abstract: A pulse width computer for a fuel-injected internal combustion engine generates injector actuation control pulses, the widths of which increase with decreasing engine temperature. These actuation control pulses are normally applied to control an injector drive circuit that, in turn, controls the duration of activation of one or more electromagnetically-actuated injectors in synchronization with the engine cycle. During engine cranking operations, the widths of the injector actuation control pulses are also integrated on a capacitor to generate a voltage that is compared with a temperature dependent reference voltage selected to represent an incipient flood condition. When the capacitor voltage is detected as having increased to this reference voltage, the comparator causes an attenuation of the injector actuation control pulse. In one embodiment, the injector actuation control pulse is attenuated by being inhibited for the remainder of the cranking period after which the capacitor is suitably discharged.Type: GrantFiled: May 1, 1978Date of Patent: June 24, 1980Assignee: The Bendix CorporationInventor: Junuthula N. Patent number: 4092955Abstract: A roughness sensor for measuring cycle-to-cycle decreases in engine speed comprises engine-event responsive flip flop means for controlling the alternate store-up and subsequent count-down of contents into a first storage means simultaneously with the alternate count-down and the store-up of contents into a second storage means. The storage means feed respective first and second comparators that produce respective first and second output pulses the widths of which are determined by the interval between the time a corresponding storage means is counted down to its starting value and the time of the next flip flop transition. A raw roughness output pulse in the form of just one but not both or neither comparator output pulses is passed by exclusive OR logic means to a speed normalization means that also receives the contents of the storage means opposite to that producing the raw roughness pulse.Type: GrantFiled: October 4, 1976Date of Patent: June 6, 1978Assignee: The Bendix CorporationInventor: Junuthula N. Patent number: 3967598Abstract: A combined fuel pump control circuit, intermittent injection electronic fuel control system is disclosed herein to provide optimum fuel delivery at constant operating pressure to the fuel injector valve means of an electronically controlled fuel supply system and to eliminate fuel return means. By energizing the pump in response to the engine operating parameters which determine the engine fuel requirement, fuel as calculated to meet the fuel requirement is provided thereby eliminating the need for fuel, in excess of that required by the engine, to be recirculated from the area of the engine back to the fuel reservoir. In order to intermittently energize the fuel pump, the pump is provided with signals which correspond to the injector valve energizing signals in timing and duration.Type: GrantFiled: December 14, 1973Date of Patent: July 6, 1976Assignee: The Bendix CorporationInventor: Todd L. Patent number: 3964443Abstract: A first pair of DDAs for interpolating along a predetermined MAP-RPM-Fuel schedule for an internal combustion engine and a second pair for iterpolating along a predetermined MAP-TEMP-ENRICH schedule. Each DDA interpolates along a predetermind specific schedule for a number of iterations directly proportional to the magnitude of one of the engine dependent parameters comprising the schedule without necessitating any intervening conversion into or out of a binary number. The first DDA of each pair using slope and intersection data from a small memory interpolates linearly along at least two contiguous segments and feeds the second DDA which by feeding different register stages to different adders interpolates nonlinearly to effect a predetermined logarithmic relationship. The outputs of the two pairs are summed and then suitably clocked to selectively gate different fuel injectors.Type: GrantFiled: June 7, 1973Date of Patent: June 22, 1976Assignee: The Bendix CorporationInventor: Thomas William Hartford
