  • Patent number: 4258618
Abstract: Onions are lifted and transported individually and are transferred in succession onto an orientation conveyor where the onions are made to roll along a belt conveyor driven in the opposite direction to align the stem axes transverse to the line of movement of the conveyor. Following orientation, the onions are gripped individually and carried into engagement with a pair of laterally spaced trimming blades which cleanly snip off the protrusions at the ends of each onion along the stem axis to prepare the onions for further processing. During their movement toward the trimming blades by the gripping and carrying means, the onions engage blade connected camming means which automatically adjusts the lateral spacing of the trimming blades responsive to variations in onion size. Following the trimming operation, the onions are released automatically into a collector means.

  • Patent number: 4235028
Abstract: An orthotic stabilizer for an athletic shoe comprising a semirigid body formed to fit around and under the wearer's heel above the midsole forming a concave pocket for receiving the heel and extending from the heel along approximately two-thirds of the length of the foot. Immediately beneath the calcaneous region is an opening in the stabilizer approximately the size of the calcaneous lower extremity filled with a padding material. The stabilizer serves to cushion the calcaneous during running and expedite subtalar joint stabilization to allow the foot to accommodate to the running surface as heel contact is made.

  • Patent number: 4223830
Abstract: An electronic identification and recognition system including a portable radio frequency signal generator having a circuit for repeatedly generating and transmitting an identifying signal having predetermined characteristics of frequency and pulse length.A single crystal determines the radio frequency signal and the two modulating square wave rates, and the bit data rate, so that synchronism with a remote receiver is readily obtained. A low level of transmitting power is chosen to allow non-interfering transmission on a variety of radio frequencies, and also to allow significant circuit simplifications and economics.Transmission may be initiated by push button or by interrogation from the central receiver station.A receiver receives and synchronously decodes the transmitted signal.

  • Patent number: 4202261
Abstract: Onions are lifted and transported individually and are transferred in succession onto an orientation conveyor where the onions are made to roll on a path of least resistance until their stem axes are transverse to the line of movement of the conveyor.

  • Patent number: 4186465
Abstract: A lock for joining cables, chains and the like comprising identical parts attached to the cable ends. Each part comprises a hollow cylinder in which is positioned a lever extending lengthwise of the cylinder and attached for limited pivoting action. Each lever end forms a lip which overlaps and interlocks with the lip of the other lever end when the cylinders are butted end-to-end. For disengaging the cylinder ends these levers are pivoted to a nonoverlapping position and the cylinders are pulled apart.

  • Patent number: 4173921
Abstract: Apparatus for holding the flaps of a carton to allow the glue to set and seal the flaps in the closed position. After glue has been applied and the flaps are folded to the closed position, there is a short time period that the flaps must be maintained closed by an external force. Because of the uneven contour of the flaps, the subject invention is provided to apply this force in a firm yet yieldable manner to allow for the uneven carton contours while not exerting unneeded force on the carton contents as it moves through the apparatus.

  • Patent number: 4163406
Abstract: A feed apparatus for conveying articles to a rotary cutter for cutting the articles lengthwise into segments. To obtain nearly equal sized segments while cutting randomly sized articles, the feed apparatus receives the articles one at a time between feed belts spaced radially about the cutter center line. These belts are supported to move radially outward in unison to accommodate each article thereby aligning the articles with the cutter center line prior to cutting.
