  • Patent number: 6231915
Abstract: The invention regards a process for the preparation of a mixture of stanol and stanol fatty acid esters by esterification of phytosterols with a source for fatty acid moieties, in such a way that the degree of esterification of the phytosterols is in the range of 40-85%, and subsequent hardening of the so obtained sterol/sterol fatty acid mixture, the process can be carried out without the use of any solvent, and wherein preferably the fatty acid groups of the stanol fatty acid esters are substantially saturated fatty acid esters. Also claimed are food products comprising mixtures of stanol and stanol fatty acid esters, in particular fat based food products such as yellow fat spreads.

  • Patent number: 6223945
Abstract: A container having a lightweight bottle body resistant to stress cracking, especially useful for liquid household products such as heavy duty liquid detergents, but also for liquid fabric softeners, light duty liquid detergents, automatic dishwashing gels, chemicals, foods and other products. The light weight of the body limits the amount of resource needed to produce the body and the amount of plastic material to be disposed of when the contents have been consumed. In one embodiment, the body includes a multilayer resin structure having an inner layer which includes a metallocene polyethylene polymer. An octagonal shape, ribs or grooves at the intersections of the panels, a drainback fitment, an off center neck, and an in-mold label are optional.

  • Patent number: 6223942
Abstract: A container for dispensing two products kept separate prior to application, for example, surfactant and skin benefit agent. The container comprising two chambers, adhered to each other. Although the chambers are essentially identical when viewed from their respective distal walls, they are adhered to each other at an offset so that from any view, both chambers can be seen. Preferably, the chambers include in their proximal walls complementary raised and recessed portions, e.g., protuberances and depressions, which assist the alignment of the chambers in an offset. A closure preferably comprises a peripheral flange and a wall extending transversely of the flange and including at least two product egress openings. Product egress channels on the underside of the transverse wall may lead to the product egress openings. Preferably attached to the closure base, for example by a hinge, is a closure cover.

  • Patent number: 6162623
Abstract: An amphiphilic enzyme is immobilized by preparing an emulsion containing a continuous hydrophobic phase and a dispersed aqueous phase containing the enzyme and a carrier for the enzyme, and removing water from the dispersed phase until this phase turns into solid enzyme coated particles. The enzyme is preferably a lipase, and the immobilized lipase can be used for reactions catalyzed by lipase such as interesterification of mono-, di- or triglycerides, de-acidification of a triglyceride oil, or removal of phospholipids from a triglyceride oil when the lipase is a phospholipase. The aqueous phase may contain a fermentation liquid, an edible triglyceride oil may be the hydrophobic phase, and carriers include sugars, starch, dextran, water soluble cellulose derivatives and fermentation residues. A substance to be processed such as triglycerides, diglycerides, monoglycerides, glycerol, phospholipids or fatty acids may be in the hydrophobic phase.

  • Patent number: 6113955
Abstract: A process for manipulating the aroma profile of tomato products comprises the steps of a) adding an enzyme with alcohol dehydrogenase activity to a plurality of tomato pieces; b) adding either a cofactor of alcohol dehydrogenase or an electron donor to the plurality of tomato pieces; and c) incubating the plurality of tomato pieces. Volatile flavor compounds such as C6 aldehydes are reduced to C6 alcohols, thereby changing the sensory attributes of tomato products. Alternatively, C6 alcohols are oxidized to C6 aldehydes by repeating process steps a to c, but replacing an electron donor with an electron acceptor.

  • Patent number: 6106886
Abstract: The invention concerns a process for the preparation of stanol fatty acid esters mixtures by interesterification of stanol fatty acid esters starting material, of which at least 50% of the fatty acid groups are saturated, with fatty acid mixtures containing at least 35%, and preferably at least 45%, of poly unsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) groups, and wherein preferably the hardening of sterol fatty acid esters. The sterol fatty acid esters are preferably prepared by the esterification of phytosterols with a fatty acid ester mixture comprising at least 70% of C18 fatty acids, all steps can be carried out in the absence of a solvent.
