Abstract: Disclosed is a metal-air fuel cell battery system, wherein metal-fuel tape can be transported through its discharging head assembly as well as its recharging head assembly in a bi-directional manner while the availability of metal-fuel therealong is automatically managed in order to improve the performance of the system.
Abstract: Disclosed is an improved method and apparatus for forming color images on radiation absorptive surfaces, having improved brightness and color characteristics. The apparatus can be realized in various forms, including Xeroxgraphic and ink-jet printing equipment. In the illustrative embodiments, color images composed from polarization-encoded perspective images are produced for use in stereoscopic viewing full-color 3-D objects represented therein using a pair of electrically-passive circularly-polarizing eyeglasses. Super-white and additive-primary coloring media is used to form the polarization-encoded composite images so that full depth of color (e.g. thousands of color values) is imparted to the 3-D objects graphically represented therein. The coloring media utilized embodies both broadband and spectrally-tuned CLC-based microflakes having symmetrical reflection characteristics which provide for improved brightness and color uniformity characteristics.
Abstract: A method of printing using dry pigments is introduced, wherein a binder material is applied to the surface of an object uniformly or in a pattern, and then dry pigment is applied to the binder material in a pattern or uniformly. The dry pigment sticks to the patterned binder, or the patterned pigment may be bound to the uniform binder, to produce a pattern.
Abstract: A method of mass producing a micropolarizer including the steps exposing films of predetermined polarization states to electromagnetic radiation through masks of predetermined patterns, etching away exposed parts of each film and aligning and laminating the films to one another to provide a micropolarizer comprising alternating sets of microscopic polarizers with different polarization states.
Abstract: A recyclable fuel distribution system comprising a hierarchy of operatively linked (with fuel supply and reaction product collection elements) fluid fuel transport vehicles, fluid fuel storage tanks, fuel supply reservoirs (optional depending on specific use), and fluid fuel usage devices operatively linked to the storage tanks or supply reservoirs, as applicable. The fuel, during use, undergoes a reversible chemical reaction, whereby collected reaction product is reversible to the original fuel. At least one and preferably all of the vehicles, storage tanks and reservoirs contain a storage volume with separated chambers, adapted to inversely change relative to fuel being supplied and reaction product being collected and stored. As a result, a single volume during transport, storage, and use, provides the dual function of fuel supply and collection of reversible reaction product, with concomitant nearly halving of transport, storage and use volumes and costs.

Abstract: An air depolarized cell with at least one movable cathode element disposed in an active anode metal material which is in a fluid or paste state. The cathode element(s) continuously moves to maintain electrochemical proximity with active anode material as the active anode material is converted into electrochemical cell reaction product. In one embodiment, formation of cell reaction products of increased volume relative to initial anode volume serves to propel the movable cathode through the anode material. Viscosity of the fluid or anode paste is adjusted to ensure cathode movement relative to active anode for maximized utilization.
Abstract: Disclosed are novel reflective films having symmetrical reflection characteristics on the upper and lower surfaces thereof. Preferably, such films are made from cholesteric liquid crystal (CLC) material, wherein the pitch of the helices of the liquid crystal molecules therein varies along the thickness dimension (i.e. transverse to the surface) of the film. Depending on the final spiral structure of the materials utilized, the CLC circularly polarizing film materials reflect either left-handed or right-handed circularly polarized light. In a first illustrative embodiment, the CLC film has a laminated construction in order that both the upper and lower surfaces thereof have substantially the same reflection characteristics over its tuned reflection band. In second illustrative embodiment, the CLC film has a laminated construction in order that both the upper and lower surfaces thereof have substantially the same reflection characteristics over its broadband reflection band.
Abstract: A light controlling film is described comprising a polymerized polymer network of a crosslinked high molecular weight polymeric material and a low molecular weight cholesteric liquid crystal (CLC) material, wherein the high molecular weight and the low molecular weight form a material having cholesteric liquid crystal (CLC) order such that the film is a reflective circular polarizer whose bandwidth is controllable by an electric field impressed in the film.

Abstract: An electro-optical display system for visually displaying a polarized spatially multiplexed image (SMI) of a 3-D object for use in stereoscopic viewing thereof with high image quality and resolution. The electro-optical display system comprises a liquid crystal display device and a micropolarization panel of electrically-passive construction, laminated thereto. The liquid crystal display device visually displays a composite pixel pattern representative of a spatially multiplexed image composed of first and second spatially modulated perspective images of the object. The polarized light passing through first and second optically transparent patterns in the micropolarization panel form a polarized SMI which can be used to stereoscopically view the 3-D object with high image quality and resolution, by viewing the same through an electrically-passive pair of polarizing eyeglasses.
Abstract: An improved metal-air fuel cell battery (FCB) system and a method of producing and supplying electrical power to an electrical power consuming device. The method involves packaging and distributing together (i) a metal-air FCB module for producing electrical power using a metal-fuel card insertable within the metal-air FCB module, and (ii) a supply of metal-fuel cards, available as metal-fuel consumable within the metal-air FCB module. The metal-air FCB module includes a cathode structure and an anode contacting structure wherebetween a metal-fuel card can be inserted during a metal-fuel card loading operation, when electrical power is required from the metal-air FCB module. By virtue of the present invention, consumers can now quickly and easily refuel a metal-air FCB module used to power electrical power consuming devices, without wasting or otherwise replacing the typically massive, expensive, and non-consumed components of the metal-air FCB module.

Abstract: A method and system for preventing a visible video copy being made of a projected image on a screen. In a theater environment, an image is projected upon a screen by a film projector or a video projector. A form of film piracy is accomplished by copying the image on the screen with a video camcorder. Most of these video camcorders are sensitive to the visual spectrum as well as portions of the infra red spectrum. To prevent the copying of a projected image by such a video camcorder, a focused or unfocused image in the infra red spectrum is projected on top of the visual image. This infra red image will not be visible to the audience in the theater. However a recording of the visual image by a video camcorder sensitive to the infra red spectrum will be distorted beyond use. When a focused infra red image is projected onto the screen it may include a message indicating the date and source of the recording. Other messages could be used including a message to the video pirate that he has been caught.
Abstract: In a known copy protection process for preventing recording of video signals, pseudo sync and AGC pulses are present on predetermined lines within the blanking intervals of the video signal so that any subsequent video tape recording of the video signal shows a picture of very low entertainment quality. This copy protection process is defeated first by determining the location of the video lines containing the copy protection using the color burst signal or chroma in the horizontal blanking interval to determine on-line detection. Then some or all of the lines including copy protection signals are modified so as to render the overall video signal recordable. The modification is accomplished in a number of ways, including gain shifting portions of the video signal, level shifting portions of the video signal, bandwidth limiting certain portions of the video signal or replacing certain portions of the video signal with other video elements.
Abstract: A video-scrambling system induces a random wobble i.e., time shifting, in the location of active portion of the video frame, without affecting the horizontal sync signal and colorburst in each video line, thus providing both security and concealment. The security is enhanced by filling in the gap between the nominal beginning of active video and the actual beginning of active video with a synthesized video signal which replicates the adjacent active video using a digitally generated filling pattern. Also, a random noise overlay further conceals the location of the gap. Additional concealment is provided by wiggling in time the location of the horizontal sync signal using one or two frequencies and also by randomly altering the location of the vertical sync signal. The NTSC digital encoding in accordance with the invention is simplified by using only two channels, chrominance and luminance, and by a heterodyne circuit for chrominance stability.
