    Abstract: Apparatus for draining surgical wounds is disclosed. One embodiment of the apparatus includes a disposable container to which a manual vacuum pump is releasably attached. The disposable container preferably includes an elastic bellows portion to provide a gauge of the subatmospheric pressure in the disposable container. The elastic bellows portion is preferably located in the neck of the container. The container may be rectangular or cylindrical. A suspension clamp for suspending the container from a bed sheet or a patient garment is also disclosed. Another embodiment of the container includes a vacuum chamber and a fluid collection chamber. The pump is in fluid communication with the vacuum chamber but isolated from the fluid collection chamber by a hydrophobic filter to prevent contamination of the pump with collected fluid.

The cover plate is formed from a metallic material and is inserted into the second end of the adaptor pipe.
