Abstract: A syringe holder which is uniquely designed for the diagnostic technique of fine needle aspiration used in the diagnosis of cancer and other pathological processes. The holder can be used repeatedly with a standard disposable syringe (42) and needle (44). A stabilizing ring (32), with or without a detachable extended stabilizing ring (35), is placed on the skin around the mass which is to be needled, and the needle is guided into the mass accurately as the syringe is held firmly by a syringe body holder (18) which slides on guide bars (46, 30). A vacuum is created by pulling the syringe plunger back with a plunger holder (14), and cells and tissue from the mass are sucked into the syringe as the needle is moved in an up-and-down direction by the hand holding a handlebar (10). The depth of needle penetration is controlled by limit screws (24, 26).When the sample is obtained, the vacuum is released. The needle is removed from skin, and the sample is removed from the syringe.
Abstract: A combination to detect the proximity of an emergency vehicle including a transmitter in the emergency vehicle and a receiver in another vehicle, the receiver actuating an alarm such as a blinking light upon the reception of a transmission from an emergency vehicle.
Abstract: A collapsible environmental chamber in which bread dough may be placed during rising, the chamber including umbrella-like ribs between which fabric panels are positioned, each fabric panel having a skirt depending beneath the straight line between adjacent leg ends whereby the chamber in its expanded condition will have a skirt portion lying loosely adjacent a supporting surface to prevent drafts from entering the interior of the chamber during the bread rising process.

Abstract: A concrete insert having a U-shaped part with two legs and a bridge between them, the bridge having a hole in which an internally threaded coupling is engaged with a friction fit, a bolt threaded in the coupling to extend above the bridge so that the position of the coupling with respect to the U-shaped element can be set by tapping the bolt and held by friction against the side of the hole in the bridge.
Abstract: A lateral brace for a hanger suspended from a rod for pipes, electric cables or the like, the lateral brace having two, slotted interlocking pieces which interlock when slots open in opposite directions so that the two interlocked pieces can form a hole surrounding the rod and thereby brace it to a structure without removing a hanger from its supporting rod.
Abstract: A compressor shielded from crankcase oil by a wall having a hole surrounded by a wiper through which a piston rod assembly passes and having the chamber between the crankcase and the underside of the piston provided with a pressure relief valve and an atmosphere vent having a check valve whereby the chamber is never at sub-atmospheric pressure and there is never gas flow through the wiper toward the piston.
Abstract: The invention relates to a heat transfer composition comprising at least two members selected from the group consisting of:a) strontium hydroxide octahydrato;b) lithium hydroxide monohydrate; andc) non-hydrate forming chloride or nitrates, wherein for a mixture comprising a) and b) the composition contains from about 40 to about 60 mol % of one hydroxide hydrate relative to the other hydroxide hydrate and for a composition containing c) and a) or b), the composition contains from about 5 to about 40% by weight of c) based on the total weight of hydroxide hydrate. These mixtures have high caloric values and are useful for a variety of applications such as preheaters for car engine cooling water systems.
Abstract: A double-walled vessel for containing fluid, the vessel having an annular space between the walls wherein a compressed gas at a pressure higher than any pressure in the inner vessel is maintained, the vessel including a monitoring device to sense the escape of gas from the annular space such as decrease in its pressure or flow of gas from a replenishing source and to sense the presence of the compressed gas in the inner vessel such as increase in pressure, sensing the composition of the compressed gas within the inner vessel or sensing an increase in flow through a vent, whereby leakage through either the inner vessel wall or the surrounding outer wall is detected and the escape of contained fluid from the inner vessel is prevented.
Abstract: A pipe hanger assembly having a springy, U-shaped hanger with top horizontal shoulders which contain slots and a separate hanger attachable to a suspending rod, the hanger having projections that engage the slots and retain the hanger in position by interlocking the hanger with the slots.
Abstract: A fluid pressure operated indicating relay including a casing defining an interior and a valve assembly movable within the interior. The valve assembly incorporates a mechanism to prevent "bounce back" of the valve assembly after the relay has been tripped as a result of a drop of fluid pressure at the relay inlet port.
Abstract: A pipe support for supporting an insulated pipe including a pipe supporting surface having springy lateral extensions which extend upwardly from the pipe supporting surfaces to embrace the pipe around more than half of its circumference, a hanger engaging surface connected to and separated from the pipe support surface by structural elements so that the distance between the pipe support surface and the hanger engaging surface is at least the wall thickness of insulation.
Abstract: The invention relates to a container for the storage of low-temperature liquids, especially liquefied gases, consisting of an outer container made of reinforced or prestressed concrete, equipped perhaps with a steel dome, and an open inner steel tank, intended to hold the liquid, the steel tank resting on an insulator; an annular space is provided between the two tanks, this space containing a granular insulating material and, in its lower part, a spacer element. In order to protect the steel tank from sliding during an earthquake and in order to absorb the horizontal forces unleashed during such an event, an annular hollow container made of steel is installed between the spacer and the wall of the concrete container, to which it is firmly attached. This hollow container, filled partially with a material that is liquefiable by heating, has some heating elements. The spacer is attached firmly to the hollow container and it is also firmly or tensionally connected to the steel tank.
Abstract: An active laser is slaved in an offset frequency relationship to an ultrastable reference laser, by a comparator with a substantially infinite capture range in order to preclude phase-locking on a harmonic or mirror image of the desired offset frequency. The frequency of such a slaved laser is then virtually immune to retro-reflection of its own light back into its resonant cavity, and gains a frequency stability equal to that of the reference. Further, the reference laser is preferably stabilized against retro-reflection of its own light by a method involving selective displacement of objects in the path of the reference laser beam, detection of a Doppler-shifted retro-reflected radiation, and insertion of appropriate optical controls in the beam path to eliminate such retro-reflected radiation from impinging on the reference laser cavity. Multiple laser systems are disclosed in which the active lasers are both series referenced and parallel referenced to a reference laser.
Abstract: An earring finding including a circular disc to which a polygonal pad is adhesively connected, the side of the polygonal pad that is not connected to the disc having a layer of adhesive covered with a stripable membrane.
Abstract: A laryngoscope comprised of an integral handle and blade wherein the blade is curved to pass over the patient's tongue, the blade also having two fiberoptic bundles for viewing and illuminating the region around the patient's larynx, and a bivalve element that is releasably attachable to the blade to form a passageway for threading an endotracheal tube to the distal end of the blade.
Abstract: A saddlebag in the form of a triangular prism including a rigid stiffening grid within one of its walls and a connection between the rigid stiffening grid and a carrying bar on a motorcycle with a hinge-like connection and with a downwardly facing wall including a closure whereby the closure can be swung to an upward position around the hinge-like connection to provide access to the interior of the saddlebag without spilling its contents, and the saddlebag being connectable symmetrically with another saddlebag to form a backpack.
