  • Patent number: 4888999
Abstract: A device for sampling remotely either liquid or solid from the bottom of a tank or other container is provided. The device comprises an outer cylindrical body of a relatively dense material having a suspending handle and a central opening through which a piston assembly is positioned and including an enlarged portion of the central opening functioning as a liquid sampling chamber. A piston assembly provided at the upper end with a piston rod and at the lower end with an enlarged piston head is positioned within and from the bottom of the central body opening with the enlarged piston head engaging at its top the bottom of the sampling chamber. The piston assembly is held within the body by a cylindrical sleeve element which is threaded into the lower portion at the body and is adapted to core out a sample of solid deposits.

  • Patent number: 4869499
Abstract: A toe exercise device in a form of a dynamic splint is disclosed comprising a semi-circular plastic shell which has an adjustable holding strap attached to the bottom end thereof and fitted with Velcro such that the strap can be adjustably fitted above the ankle of the foot which is being exercised. At the upper or top end of the shell is secured an adjustable stretchable rubber tubing which has at its free end a toe sling or pouch. The plastic shell essentially comprises a brace member which is adapted to fit behind the leg. The toe sling is adapted to fit around the bottom portion of the toe and tends to pull the toe in a direction toward the leg. In this way, the user of the device can exercise his or her tendons which are situated in the vicinity of the toe located in the sling. This dynamic splint will also assist in obtaining passive extension at the metatarsal phalangeal joints.

  • Patent number: 4845785
Abstract: A hinged shoulder pad and method of forming such a pad is disclosed comprising precutting the component pieces or panels which will comprise the shoulder pad into a single integral unit from a blank of suitable material, such as resinated polyester, with each of the panels being cut into the desired size and shape to form the shoulder pad. Adjacent panels are cut through along their common base end or fold line leaving uncut portions at the extremities thereof to form hinges between the adjoining pieces, such that there is a slit formed between the hinges at each end. This permits the unfolded pad panels to be picked up as a singular unit and interfolded in the desired manner such that a laminated pad comprising the panels is formed of the desired thickness depending upon the number of layers employed. The thickness of the laminated pad can be increased or decreased by adding or reducing the number of pieces employed.

  • Patent number: 4628300
Abstract: A motor vehicle theft deterring device designed to prevent access to the levers which control the operating of the door lock in a vehicle door. A cover strip of rigid material of predetermined length and width to substantially cover the space between the vehicle window glass and the outside panel of the vehicle door is formed with a downwardly extending support strip and a mounting plate at a right angle to one edge of the cover strip, the plate being attached to the sash of the automobile window to prevent the insertion of a rod or similar device to release the lock actuating levers in the vehicle door. In a modified form of the invention, an electrical switch is positioned in the mounting plate and is electrically connected to the horn relay to cause the horn to blow continuously in the lock cover is tampered with and the horn circuit is grounded by movement of the switch.

  • Patent number: 4486630
Abstract: A headset for supporting electrical contact means which are operated by the movement of the jaw and/or the eyebrows is electrically connected to a computer, video game console or the like to provide educational and recreational opportunities to persons who can move only the jaw and eyebrows. A flexible chin strap formed with a chin cup supports a horizontally mounted chin bar having an electrode contact on one end. A housing having a plurality of sides, each inner face of which has mounted thereon an electrode connected to a computer interface is mounted around the chin bar electrode to provide a means for the user to establish contact between the chin bar electrode and one or more of the housing electrodes by up, down or sideward movement of the jaw. An adjustable head band formed to fit above the eyebrows of the user is formed with a contact electrode extending outwardly from the center portion of the headband between the eyes.

  • Patent number: 4364709
Abstract: A high torque windmill is provided for use in converting wind power to usable energy, having a vertical axis about which a plurality of flexible vanes are journaled for rotation and spaced radially therefrom. The vanes are circumferentially spaced and mounted on a rigid circular, multi-sided support member which comprises the rotor journaled for rotation about the vertical mounting axis. Each vane comprises a conical member made of a dacron material and open at opposed ends thereof. A plurality of rods are held in pockets located about the conical surface for maintaining the desired conical configuration. These rods extend beyond each pocket at the smaller end of the cone, for fitting into tubular members fastened to the rotor to hold the vanes in place. Adjacent vanes are offset from the plane of rotation by 15 degrees in opposite directions (that is, up and down) in order to maximize the amount of captured wind power. The foregoing design provides a low speed high torque multi-directional windmill unit.

  • Patent number: 4313477
Abstract: An assembly for facilitating transfer of liquid into a container for holding liquid. A liquid dispenser is provided for expelling the liquid from the container. This liquid transfer assembly easily connects with the container upon removal of the dispenser for facilitating smooth transfer of liquid into the container through a funnel-like member. It includes an air passage for expelling air within the container while filling it with liquid. A valve is provided in operable communication with the air transfer passageway for preventing liquid from flowing therethrough.

  • Patent number: 4279190
Abstract: A nail having a shank and head including one or more spaced grooves formed in the shank about its periphery, such that the nail can be fractured. The groove may comprise any one of several configurations, e.g. rectangular, V-shaped, concave, etc. in cross-section. The essence of the invention is to provide the nail shank with a reduced circumference at one or more locations along its length so that the nail portion above the reduced portion nearest the head will break off on impact from the side, thus leaving the remainder of the nail shank in place.

  • Patent number: 4265374
Abstract: A liquid dispenser for a container which may have a flexible liner for holding liquid, for expelling the liquid therefrom. The dispenser is easily attachable to containers having a common inlet and outlet, and upon depression of a button will permit the liquid in the container to be dispensed from the normally closed dispenser outlet passage. A regulated source of pressurized gas is provided in the dispenser for assisting the flow of liquid if needed, as well as a safety pressure relief valve. The liner can be used when contact of the liquid with the pressurized gas is not preferred or permitted. In that case, the pressurized gas exerts pressure on the liner which forces the liquid out. Another feature is to provide an assembly for facilitating transfer of liquid into the container.

  • Patent number: 4250137
Abstract: Breast pads, cups and fronts for use in brassieres and other garments are molded from a thin, generally planar blank of an open-cell or closed-cell polymeric foam material (e.g. polyurethane). The blank is placed between mold parts and the male mold part then deforms the blank into the configuration of the female mold part while negative pressure is exerted on the female mold part, thereby causing the blank to be seated in the configuration of the female mold part. The male mold part is then withdrawn, negative pressure is discontinued and the male mold is again placed in contact with the blank and heat and positive pressure are simultaneously applied to the mold parts to cause compression of the cells of the blank and to thereby cause the cells to become permanently reformed into their compressed positions.
