    Abstract: The excessive bit error rate detection algorithm operates in two modes: BURST mode and non-BURST mode. In non-BURST mode, an alarm state is entered if an error count exceeds a threshold within a set number of frames and exits the alarm state when the error count stays below a threshold for a set number of frames. In the BURST mode, the alarm state is not entered unless the error count exceeds the threshold two consecutive times and does not exit the alarm state unless the error rate remains below a threshold for two consecutive frame counts.

    Abstract: An analyzer apparatus includes a receptacle for an ampoule, an analysis system, an incubator, and a master control. The analysis system includes a light source and a photodetector positioned such that the light from the light source passes through the receptacle. The master control includes a display, a timer, and a memory provided with a look-up table. During operation, an ampoule containing a sample and an indicator which changes color when a certain level of biological activity is present in the sample is placed within the receptacles. The analysis system is operated to transmit light at the predetermined wavelength through the ampoule to the detector, and a maximum amount of light passing through the ampoule is logged. The incubator is operated to heat the receptacle and the ampoule therein to a desired test temperature and the timer is started. The analysis system periodically transmits light through the ampoule.

    Abstract: A fixation system includes a plate intended to be positioned against a bone, a plurality of bone screws for securing the plate along an non-fractured portion of the bone, and a plurality of bone pegs which extend from the plate and into bone fragments of the fracture to provide a supporting framework. The pegs can be oriented at various angles relative to an axis normal to the lower surface of the plate. For each peg, once the peg has been appropriately positioned within the peg hole, a set screw is threaded into the peg hole and tightened, thereby securing the peg in the selected orientation.

    Abstract: An apparatus for avoiding head of line blocking in an ATM device includes a scheduler, at least one multicast queue, at least one unicast queue, a multicast session table, a multicast timer, and a problem PHY vector. The methods of the invention include alternate scheduling between multicast queue(s) and unicast queue(s). If a PHY device in a multicast session is inactive, it is skipped and the next PHY in the session is serviced. When the session has serviced all of the active PHYs and there remain only inactive PHYs in the session table, the session is ended. Preferably, a timer is started when only inactive PHYs remain in a session and the session is ended when the timer expires, if not sooner. Preferably, a problem PHY vector is maintained and updated at the end of each multicast session and when PHYs become active. The problem PHY vector includes a list of all of the presently inactive PHYs.

    Abstract: An automated eye corneal striae detection system for use with a refractive laser system includes a cornea illuminator, a video camera interface, a computer, and a video display for showing possible eye corneal striae to the surgeon. The computer includes an interface to control the corneal illuminator, a video frame grabber which extracts images of the eye cornea from the video camera, and is programmed to detect and recognize eye corneal striae. The striae detection algorithm finds possible cornea striae, determines their location, or position, on the cornea and analyzes their shape. After all possible eye corneal striae are detected and analyzed, they are displayed for the surgeon on an external video display. The surgeon can then make a determination as to whether the corneal LASIK flap should be refloated, adjusted or smoothed again.

Each receptacle includes at least one light source and a photodetector positioned such that the light from the light source passes through the receptacle (and thereby the ampoule and its contents) prior to entering the photodetector. According to one preferred aspect of the invention, the receptacles are provided preferably at a 30° to 45° angle relative to vertical. According to another preferred aspect of the invention, the light source is at least one LED which is directed to transmit light upward into the reflective surface of the cover such that the light is reflected by the cover downward into the receptacle toward the photodetector.

The segments define a framework of either triangles with sides of a particular length (as adjusted on the wearer), or quadrilaterals having sides of a set length (as adjusted on the wearer) and at least one fixed angle between two of the sides. In either instance, after adjustment, each triangle or quadrilateral can be only in one configuration, and is not subject to distortion due to rotation about pivot points. The garment pattern template can be used as a template to cut fabric for a garment.

The jaws include channels in which a distalmost clip rides when the jaws are closed and the pusher is advanced, thereby causing the distalmost clip to be pushed over the tissue, and a distal anvil which operate to bend a portion of the clip to facilitate its retention on the clamped tissue. Rotation of the clip-advancing wire effects rotation of the jaws are rotatable about a longitudinal axis of the device.

    Abstract: A flame holder is provided at a head end of a combustion chamber of a hybrid rocket motor. The flame holder includes a high-temperature casing defining a cavity, and a solid propellant within cavity around or near the injector. The propellant may be provided in an annulus within the casing, such that the flame plume from the burning propellant is substantially parallel to the flow of the oxidizer, or may be generally cylindrical within a cylindrical casing such that the flame plume of the burning propellant is substantially perpendicular to the oxidizer flow. The solid propellant is preferably ignited substantially simultaneously with the ignition of the hybrid motor. The burning of the solid propellant prevents the flame from combustion of the fluid oxidizer and solid fuel in the hybrid motor from drifting and thereby stabilizes the flame front.

The motor parameters and corresponding kinematic characteristics of the filler wire is adjusted by the single controller in response to a single operator actuated adjustment means.

The nail portion includes a flexible tapered section, and a rigid distal section larger in diameter and is adapted to be inserted into a medullary canal of a fractured bone. The plate portion has a low, narrow profile and includes three longitudinally displaced peg holes, each of which is adapted to orient a peg in a different orientation from the others. The plate portion is adapted to be positioned on the outside of a fractured bone when the nail portion is within the medullary canal. The device provides the benefits of both an intramedullary nail and a bone plate in a single device. The fixation device permits a minimally invasive treatment of the metaphyseal fractures that may otherwise be undertreated.
