Abstract: Electromechanical or manually operable vertical-moving roller curtains for windows which consist of a curtain made of thin and flexible material, wrapped around a self-winding upper roller and a lower edge fastened to a rigid horizontal crossbar. The crossbar is connected by vertical worm screw linkages to sliders. The worm screws and sliders have a matching thread meshing for driving connection therebetween. A geared motor or a crank drives the worm screws through a drive shaft and through bevel gear pairs. A surrounding hollowed frame consists of vertical and horizontal section bars, connected by linkage so that when the motor or crank is driven a rotation is imparted to the worm screws which, via sliders, vertically move the lower edge of the curtain upwards or downwards, thereby winding and unwinding the curtain on the upper roller.

Abstract: A short range magnetically coupled wireless communication system employs time variant modulation of a high repetition rate pulse stream and magnetic coupling between a transmission magnetic element and a receiving magnetic element. The pulse stream is modulated by an input audio frequency signal in the time domain, for example, through pulse position modulation, pulse width modulation or pulse symmetry modulation. The receiving magnetic element is coupled to a demodulator circuit which detects the transmitted pulses induced in the receiving magnetic element and reproduces the audio frequency signal. Transmission over short range is thus efficiently accomplished through magnetic coupling in a simple, low cost, low power consumption communication system.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for imaging low contrast one and two-dimensional symbols are provided. A light source directs light onto a target that includes a low contrast symbol. An imaging element receives light reflected off of the target and creates an image of the target therefrom. A light level detector determines the intensity level of the light received by the imaging element, and when the intensity level exceeds a predetermined threshold, a controller causes the image data created by the imaging element to be stored in a data memory.
Abstract: A circumferential closure for a bag which permits hinged opening of the bag at substantially all position on the circumference and selected full or partial closure. The closure comprises a single zipper (or similar closure mechanism) track wherein one end overlaps the track of the other end by being inserted therewithin. The zipper mechanism comprises four pull elements in two sets, arranged such that juxtaposition (or separated) sequence of the two sets of pairs provides for full closure of the zipper and wherein disposal of a set of pairs between another set of pairs provides for full opening of the zipper, wherein the closure is hinged at the site of the zippers.
Abstract: A germicidal absorptive material for use in surgical packings, sanitary tampons and similar uses is provided by a sponge-like matrix of polyvinyl alcohol-acetal copolymer to which is tightly bound a germicidal disinfectant dye. Polyvinyl alcohol-acetal polymer shows exceptional avidity for a number of disinfectant dyes, both acidic and basic, such as methylene blue and gentian violet. Consequently, sponges of this material containing disinfectant dye release no dye to an aqueous solution The material is generally a porous matrix that releases no particles or fines into wounds or body orifices. Presence of bound disinfectant dye allows the sponge to inhibit bacterial growth in a number of different situations. Several common bacteria are killed by being incubated in the present of an embodiment of the invention which contains both methylene blue and gentian violet.

Abstract: A motion discrimination method or a motion discrimination device is provided to discriminate a kind of a motion, i.e., one of conducting operations which are made by a human operator by swinging a baton to conduct music of a certain time (e.g., quadruple time). Herein, sensors are provided to detect the motion, made by the human operator, to produce detection values. The detection values are converted to operation labels, which are assembled together in a certain time unit (e.g., 10 ms) to form label series. In addition, there are provided a plurality of Hidden Markov Models, each of which is constructed to learn label series corresponding to a specific motion in advance. Calculations are performed to produce probabilities that multiple Hidden Markov Models respectively output the label series corresponding to the detected motion. Then, a kind of the motion is discriminated on the basis of result of the calculations.
Abstract: In a sound source apparatus, a central processing unit is integrated in a semiconductor chip and operates in response to a primary operating clock signal for creating a control message. A tone generating unit is integrated in the same semiconductor chip and operates in response to a secondary operating clock signal for generating a musical tone according to the control message. A master clock generator generates a master clock signal having a desired frequency selected from a plurality of frequencies. A mode changer designates one of a first mode and a second mode corresponding to different operating speeds. A clock generator is provided for variably frequency-dividing the master clock signal to generate the primary operating clock signal and the secondary operating clock signal. The clock generator is responsive to the mode changer for changing a frequency ratio of the primary operating clock signal to the secondary operating clock signal between the first mode and the second mode.
