  • Patent number: 4376250
Abstract: An apparatus providing a source of alternating power for power devices is disclosed. The apparatus comprises a frame member having a plurality of ground engaging wheels for transporting the frame member along the ground. The frame member carries a plurality of DC storage means therein. A transformer means carried on the frame has a low voltage center tapped winding, a line voltage winding, and a high voltage winding. The low voltage center tapped winding is in communication with the DC storage means, and the line voltage winding is operable to produce an AC output voltage suitable for powering devices. A plurality of controllable rectifier means is in communication with both the high voltage winding and the low voltage center tapped winding. The rectifier means are operable to alternately provide a conduction path for said DC storage means through both halves of the low voltage center tapped winding.

  • Patent number: 4367668
Abstract: An attachment for circular saws that supports a workpiece for movement past the saw blade. The attachment includes a saw-top plate that is adapted to cover and slide over the saw table surface of the circular saw. A guide on the saw-top plate fits within a groove on the saw table to allow longitudinal translational movement of the attachment. The saw-top plate may be supported on bearing rollers mounted to the saw table. A cut-off guide and a workpiece stop are provided on the saw-top plate that serve to position the workpiece relative to the saw blade. A hold-down device, operating also as a blade guard, is used to hold the workpiece secure on the saw-top plate as it is moved past the blade.

  • Patent number: 4365677
Abstract: Large hole boring equipment is used for boring a large diameter blind pilot hole. Then such equipment is removed from the hole and a room is blasted at the closed or blind end of the hole. Then the large hole cutterhead is replaced by a reamer and the equipment is inserted back into the hole. The reamer is an adjustable diameter type and its diameter is increased once it is within such room. A wrench carried by a drive head of a drilling machine is used to rotate a small diameter shaft which extends downwardly through the drill string to a lead screw which is a part of the reamer. Rotation of the lead screw causes axial travel of a lead nut. As the lead nut travels it moves a plurality of links which in turn swing a plurality of cutter carrying arms outwardly from the axis of rotation.

  • Patent number: 4333243
Abstract: An apparatus for indicating the latitude position of the user is disclosed. The apparatus comprises a base member carrying a scale having degrees of latitude marked on the scale. The base member further carries a scale correcting for the declination of the sun north or south of the equator during days of the year. A vertical member extends perpendicularly upwardly from the base member and carries a means alignable with the current day date when the base member is oriented in a meridian plane and rotated in a vertical plane. When the base member is oriented in a north-south direction and the means aligned to the current date, the end of the shadow cast by the vertical member on the scale of degrees of latitude indicates the latitude position of the user.

  • Patent number: 4333152
Abstract: A video entertainment system by which human viewers conduct simulated voice conversations with screen actors or cartoon characters in a prerecorded branching movie shown on a television screen. The actors and cartoons reply responsively with lip-sync sound to words spoken by viewers. Different audio and video frames are addressed on a videodisc to provide one of several alternative replies or alternative actions at each branch point in the movie, depending on what the viewer says to a speech-recognition unit. A simple speech-recognition unit can be used because the number of words to be recognized at each branch point is restricted to just a few words. A menu of prompting words is displayed on a hand-held unit to inform viewers of what words they can use at each branch point. The prompting words are programmed to be phonetically distinct to be easily distinguishable from each other. Viewers can input questions or make other remarks by speaking a displayed code word which stands for a whole sentence.

  • Patent number: 4327821
Abstract: An improved clutch of the type having concentric and spaced apart driving and driven members with a clutch ring in engagement with one of the members and urgeable into a simultaneous engagement with the other member is provided. A fixed cam member is provided nonrotational with respect to the driving and driven members. A second cam member is slidably movable around the first cam member whenever the clutch ring is in simultaneous engagement with the driving and driven members. A cam follower is in a cammed engagement with the first cam member and is movable axially apart from the first cam member into cammed engagement with the second cam member. The cam follower further urges the clutch ring into a simultaneous engagement with the driving and driven member whenever the driving member rotates with respect to the driven member.

  • Patent number: 4328494
Abstract: An apparatus for communicating a vehicle parameter to a location remote and apart from where the vehicle parameter is measured is disclosed. The apparatus comprises a sensor responsive to the parameter being measured, with the sensor producing an output analog signal proportional to the vehicle parameter being measured. The output analog signal is subsequently converted into a digital signal whereby the vehicle parameter being measured is represented by an N-bit digital code. The N-bit digital code is subsequently transmitted to a location remote and apart from where the vehicle parameter is being measured, and is converted into a continuous analog signal representing the vehicle parameter being measured. The analog signal is subsequently displayed in a viewer usable form. The disclosed apparatus also includes a calibration means which simulates the sensor output analog signal and is switchable therewith to enable end-to-end calibration of the disclosed apparatus.
