  • Patent number: 8332322
Abstract: A system and methods that enables and utilizes the conversion of an individual's ability to access multiple secure accounts to establish and validate the individual's digital primary identity. The control for the digital primary identity validation is user-centric so that the individual controls the amount of information supplied and therefore the level of assurance achievable. The level of assurance can be added to the digital primary identity. An identity card for digital primary identity validation can be used online or in-person. Validation and level of assurance is reviewed regularly or continuously. Levels of assurance can be increased by validating primary sources of identification.

  • Patent number: 8326346
Abstract: A hand-held device, such as a remote control, has a time-limited feature, such as backlight illumination, that is caused to be activated upon the occurrence of a triggering event sensed by a triggering sensor, such as a motion sensor. The hand-held device functions to disable and/or downwardly adjust a time period during which the time-limited feature will be allowed to be active upon a future occurrence of a triggering event in response to the device determining that a predetermined number of trigger events sensed via the triggering sensor are false trigger events. The time-limited feature may be disabled by disabling the triggering sensor.

  • Patent number: 8326777
Abstract: Incremental training data is used to supplement a trained model to provide personalized recommendations for a user. The personalized recommendations can be made by taking into account the user's behavior, such as, without limitation, the user's short and long term web page interactions, to identify item recommendations. A trained model is generated from training data indicative of the web page interaction data collected from a plurality of users. Incremental training data indicative of other web page interaction data can be used to supplement the trained model, or in place of the trained model. Incremental training data can be indicative of user behavior collected more recently than the data used to train the model, for example.

  • Patent number: 8319788
Abstract: An automated method and apparatus for providing color selection capability to a user wherein a first display is generated on a display apparatus of an array of color family groups disposed in a plurality of rows and a plurality of columns. Upon selection of a particular color family group, a second display is generated comprising an enlarged display of a particular selected color family group wherein, as the second display is generated, the array of color family groups of the first display dissolves while the particular selected color family group moves into a central enlarged position and a miniature version of the entire array of color family groups is displayed in a thumbnail navigation frame, located in a corner of the display screen. Various elements of a color family such as color stripe cards, color style cards, and sample chips may be selected and caused to appear via animation in a central enlarged position in the display.

  • Patent number: 8317869
Abstract: A femoral component of a knee prosthesis, wherein the femoral component includes a sharp radius at each end (e.g., the anterior end and the posterior end) of the femoral component is disclosed herein. The sharp radius at each end may form a “claw” at each end. Each of these claws may “dig” through the patient's cartilage into the bone (or may “dig” directly into bone if there is no intervening cartilage). One benefit provided by a claw may be facilitating a smooth transition of cartilage/poly bearing to femoral implant/poly bearing (e.g., during knee extension). A femoral component of a knee prosthesis, wherein the femoral component includes a raised rib having a bulbous terminus at a free edge is disclosed herein. This raised rib having a bulbous terminus at a free edge may, for example, simultaneously create sufficient implant strength and adequate cement fixation while minimizing the component's thickness.

  • Patent number: 8321466
Abstract: Metadata regarding program content is created by monitoring a manner in which a first rendering of the program content is affected by a user whereupon the metadata will include data which defines one or more segments within the program content. The data within the metadata is then usable during a second rendering of the program content to inhibit, e.g., advance over during playing or omit during copying, the rendering of the one or more segments within the program content defined by the data within the metadata.

  • Patent number: 8319825
Abstract: Methods, apparatuses and systems directed to using viewport state data objects (VSDO) to render a series of video frames according to render instructions to achieve video compression. In a particular implementation, the video compression format exposes the VSDO and render instructions to a video render client, allowing the video render client to finish rendering a sequence of video frames from different spatial locations and view transform parameters. Implementations of this video compression format further allow any arbitrary client with enough graphics processing power and bandwidth to retransmit novel, completely rendered viewports to thin clients without taxing the root remote render devices.

  • Patent number: 8317521
Abstract: A computer-implemented method teaches a user to evaluate a gemstone, such as a cut diamond. The method includes providing a computer system connected to an apparatus capable of capturing an image of a gemstone. The computer system is arranged to process a received image of a gemstone to determine one or more optical properties of the gemstone. In one aspect, the method presents on a display of the computer system a series of pre-stored screens comprising a graphical representation how the cut of a gemstone affects its light handling ability, and a user interface screen. The user interface screen allows the user to control the operation of the apparatus to measure the one or more optical properties of a particular gemstone provided to the apparatus, to view an image of the gemstone measured, and to view representations of the measured one or more optical properties.

  • Patent number: 8315444
Abstract: A sensor which uses a plurality of partial fingerprint readers (imagers), and various computational algorithms, to detect changes in fingerprint images as a function of finger movement. The sensor can provide both finger motion information and fingerprint images. The sensor uses multiple partial fingerprint readers, arranged in different directions on a surface, to detect finger motion in two dimensions. The sensor can also detect the relative speed and direction of finger movement. Some sensor embodiments use deep finger penetrating radio frequency (RF) based circuits, which can be inexpensively printed or formed on the surface of robust and flexible dielectric materials such as Kapton tape. The sensor also has textured surfaces to help guide the user. The sensor both small and robust, and is well suited for control applications for low-cost mass market microprocessor controlled devices such as cell phones, MP3 players, laptop computers, and other devices.
