  • Patent number: 7954444
Abstract: A tool for assisting a reader in grasping the thought expressed in a group of words on a page is disclosed. The tool is a flexible film card which has a window adjacent contrastingly colored film segments of the card. A group of words may be viewed through the window, and the window may then be moved by the user from one group of words to the next. The groups all around the window may be viewed through the colored segments of the card, thus allowing the reader's eyes to review and anticipate the passages of words which he has read or those which he is about to read while still focusing his attention on the group of words in the window.

Abstract: A laminating machine with upper and lower laminating rollers and upper and lower laminating film supply rollers is disclosed. An upper laminating film extends onto the upper and lower laminating rollers and a lower laminating film also extends onto the laminating rollers. First and second frame members support the laminating rollers and the film supply rollers. A removable tray extending between the first and second frame members adjacent the nip between the laminating rollers carries a film insertion member which is moveable far enough to press the films into the nip. A spring-loaded chuck mounted on one of the frame members and supporting the end of a laminating film supply roller is also disclosed, as is an idler bar mounted in a bracket depending from the tray and engaging the film from the lower laminating film supply roller when the tray is in place.

  • Patent number: 7843326
Abstract: The disclosed system provides headgear, i.e., a Firefighter Helmet, with forward illumination that also acts as a personal rescue detection system for quickly finding a downed of lost firefighter. More specifically, the headgear includes a forward illuminating light that has unique characteristics that are easily detected in a smoke filled space by using a handheld photodetector probe that is tuned to the exact characteristics of the light source. The handheld probe has a somewhat narrow directional response to allow a directed search for a downed firefighter or other emergency personnel in a smoke filled noisy environment that hinders normal visual and audible search methods. The handheld photodetector probe produces a unique audio tone that is proportional in volume to the intensity of the exact-characteristics-light-source thus allowing a sweeping motion of the probe to immediately determine the relative direction to a firefighter who is down or requiring assistance.

  • Patent number: 7201283
Abstract: A rack, or caddy, is disclosed which stores and dispenses used plastic bags. Normally the bags are grocery store or department store sized bags made from a thin film of plastic which have been saved for reuse somehow. The caddy includes a sheet member which may be made of molded plastic material such as polypropylene, and it has several cups joined to it. The interior walls of the cups are spaced far enough apart to permit a user to insert hand compacted plastic bags into the cups, and thereafter the walls hold them there by limiting the expansion of the bags.

  • Patent number: 7102079
Abstract: An assembly is disclosed for finding and withdrawing wire and cable ends from locations inside a wall which is being constructed where they have been temporarily brought. The assembly includes a plaster ring fastened to a wall stud. A plaster ring cover plate is temporarily attached to the plaster ring. A hitch is provided on the plaster ring cover plate for joining the wire or cable ends to the cover plate. A tying member may be used to tie the wire or cable end to the cover plate if desired. A method for retrieving the wire and cable ends is also disclosed which includes placing a plaster ring near a location where the wire or cable ends are brought, providing a plaster ring cover plate which is removably engaged on the plaster ring with a hitch for receiving the wire or cable end, engaging the wire or cable end on the hitch, and engaging the plaster ring cover plate on the plaster ring.

  • Patent number: 6826788
Abstract: An improved assembly is disclosed for clamping the perimeter flange of a sink snugly down upon a countertop where the sink is being installed. The assembly utilizes a stud extending downwardly from the underside of the perimeter flange and a link connected to the stud having a displacement member, such as a threaded bolt, which engages the underside of the countertop adjacent the hole in the countertop where the sink is located. As the displacement member is manipulated against the underside of the countertop, the link holding the displacement member draws the stud downwardly to pull the flange snugly against the upper face of the countertop adjacent the sink installation hole.

  • Patent number: 6820661
Abstract: A solid chemical dissolver for making liquid solutions from solid chemicals packed in small containers is disclosed. The solutions are used for cleaning tanks, boilers, cooling towers and similar equipment internally. The dissolver has at least one bowl for receiving and holding one or more of the small containers of solid chemical. A spray nozzle aimed at the solid chemical directs fluid under pressure at the chemical to dissolve some of it and form a cleaning solution. A reservoir is provided to hold the solution prior to use, and a drain member leading away from the reservoir is provided for withdrawing the solution and using it to clean the tanks or other equipment. A fluid level detection switch assembly is disposed in the reservoir to control the amount of fluid from the nozzle and the level of the solution in the reservoir. Various embodiments of the invention are disclosed.

  • Patent number: 5171013
Abstract: A method and system is provided which is particularly designed for board, lane or field games in which balls, pucks or the like are rolled, slid or otherwise propelled by a player over a horizonal support surface. Radiant energy emitters and detectors are providing along opposite sides of the support surface to detect crossings by the of detection lines including a first pair of lines perpendicular to a central reference line midway between such opposite side and a second pair of lines crossing the first pair of lines at points in the central reference line. Signals are developed which are applied to display a representation of the object which moves in a path and at a speed determined by the movement of the propelled object. Crossings of additional detection lines are detected to detect and display changes in speed and curvatures in the path of movement of the propelled object.
