  • Patent number: 6622406
Abstract: A reading machine is provided comprising a carriage for temporarily receiving and retaining a publication such as a book, magazine or printed sheet, which carriage is slidably inserted into tracks supported by the main body of the reading machine so as to allow horizontal movement of the carriage relative to the main body of the reading machine. A continuous belt is supported by roller bearings disposed about the main body of the reading machine such that the belt covers the carriage when the carriage is attached to the reading machine. The belt includes a horizontal member having an opening therein, which opening extends through the belt itself and being of substantially the same size of a line of text such that the opening and belt may be used to isolate individual lines of text. The machine includes a control device for manually or automatically controlling the vertical displacement of the belt and the horizontal member by an electric motor or by a knob or handle.

  • Patent number: 6612942
Abstract: A baseball is provided for repeated use with a pitching machine. The baseball has a smooth surface upon which a plurality of dimples or indentations are provided, said indentations being spaced in a regular pattern. These indentations serve to induce turbulent airflow over the surface of the baseball, thereby reducing the drag on the ball and serving to stabilize the flight of the ball. The ball further includes a plurality of slot-shaped depressions formed in a pattern similar to the stitch pattern of an actual baseball and wherein the inner surfaces of said slot-shaped depressions are colored with a dye or paint such that the rotational velocity of the baseball may be observed when the ball is in flight.

  • Patent number: 6595128
Abstract: A device is provided for imprinting a solid or dashed straight line on the surface of a golf ball. The device consists of a semi-rigid stencil that may be snapped securely around the surface of a golf ball. While the golf ball is allowed to rotated freely within the stencil so as to allow a user to rotate the ball to the correct position, a pair of finger grips are provided which, when compressed, clamp the ball in position so as to prevent the ball from rotating while the ball is being marked. The stencil also includes a linear groove adapted to receive a pen, indelible marker or other writing implement for marking the ball with a linear indicia. This indicia can be used for identification purposes, as a putting trainer, and an alignment aid during play. Beveled edges or bumpers may also be included along the inner surface of the groove to assist the user in imprinting the ball and prevent smudging or pooling of the ink or paint used to mark the ball.

  • Patent number: 6557698
Abstract: A packaging device is provided for packaging at least one disc-shaped item such as a CD-ROM, together with a beverage container having a cover with a central straw opening. The packaging device includes a cylindrical lid adapted to receive and retain a disc-shaped media in a water-tight compartment, which lid loaded with the disc-shaped media is then sealingly engaged to a beverage container. The lid includes a cylindrical inner structure extending from the inner surface defining central support for the media such that the media is allowed to rotate, while limiting its linear movement. The cylindrical inner structure includes an opening so as to allow the passage therethrough of a straw. A sealing member is sealed to the lid after the disc is inserted so as to seal the disc within a dry, water-tight chamber. The cylindrical lid is attached to the beverage container by means of a compression fit.

  • Patent number: 6536764
Abstract: A plurality of hexagonal puzzle pieces are formed of a pair of spaced apart hexagonal plates having a detent column extending between their respective inner surfaces. A plurality of linkages each having ring portions are received upon the detent columns of each puzzle piece to join the puzzle pieces in an elongated string. The angular positions between adjacent puzzle pieces as well as the rotational position of each puzzle piece within the string of puzzle pieces may be changed or manipulated in order to configure the puzzle pieces in a closed or solved puzzle configuration. A detent mechanism is operative between each puzzle piece and its adjacent puzzle piece to detent the relative positions thereof at selected angular relationships.

  • Patent number: 6491164
Abstract: A container is provided having at least two separate container elements attached by means of a flexible banner bearing a message or artwork. Each of the containers has an opening in the top thereof for storage and transportation of a variety of goods. The flexible banner is attached to each container element at one edge thereof such that the edges of attachment are adjacent to each other when the container is in the closed position. The container elements are adapted to fit adjacent to each other to form a large container, this large container being bordered on all sides by the flexible banner when in the closed position. When the container elements are rotated in opposite directions relative to each other, a message imprinted on the inner surface of the flexible banner is made visible. Alternatively, the container elements may be permanently sealed for display of such unique items such as liquid sculptures or other artwork.
