  • Patent number: 6535596
Abstract: A method and apparatus is provided for processing a call from a calling party to a called party. The system includes subscriber profiles for both the called and calling parties and a call behavior module. The subscriber profiles which reside in a switch or one or more remote databases comprehensively maintain the subscribed services and preferences of the parties. The call behavior module processes the telephone call in accordance with the subscriber service options and preferences of the called party and the calling party as provided in the subscriber profiles. Call processing is thereby handled more efficiently and reduced risk of feature interactions between the different subscriber services.

  • Patent number: 6519253
Abstract: A line termination unit which supports Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) and high speed data (HSD) services such as asymmetric digital subscriber loop (ADSL) or XDSL services to a subcriber over a common two-wire subscriber line. The line termination unit has a line termination circuit that connects to the subscriber line and provides ISDN signals to the line. The line support circuit receives incoming ISDN and HSD signals from the line and transmits outgoing ISDN and HSD signals to the line. The received incoming analog signals are separated into first (ISDN information) signals and second (HSD information) signals. The first signals are converted into third digital signals having a format used for ISDN signals by an associated central office and transmitting the third digital signals to the central office.

  • Patent number: 6496571
Abstract: A telecommunication system obtains personal information from a caller to provide the identity of the caller to a called telephone. In one embodiment, fingerprint information of the caller is obtained from a fingerprint scanner at the calling telephone of the caller which is then correlated with names in a finger print information database to the identify the caller. In another embodiment, voiceprint information of the caller is obtained to identify the caller through use of a voiceprint information database that correlates the voiceprint information with voiceprint data in the voiceprint information database. In both embodiments, if a called telephone local switch determines that the called telephone is authorized to receive the identity of the caller, the called telephone local switch transmits the identity of the caller to the called telephone.

  • Patent number: 6496931
Abstract: A method of anonymously providing user information while browsing internet web sites by inputting a data information record into storage, dynamically generating a user alias, linking the user alias with the user data record to form a user infotmation record (UIR) and then transmitting the anonymous user information record automatically or in response to user commands. This alias identification is transmitted to a remote internet operating computer of a web site that receives the information inputted for collecting information, such as statistical or demographic information. Once the combined UIR has been formed, a communication protocol of the invention allows the user to deliver the UIR to any web site that is accessed. The protocol of the invention also allows the web site operator to read the UIR and aggregate any information it desires about the user. However, as noted, the web site can only gain access to the user's alias identification in combination with the user data.

  • Patent number: 6453032
Abstract: This invention uses a computer program to mine preexisting dialing plan data located in a variety of preexisting source dialing plan databases. The computer program either creates a new dialing plan database from parts of existing dialing plan databases or modifies an existing dialing plan database. The computer program replaces the current system's reliance upon manual data entry by data engineers to configure the operation of a new telecommunication switch or replace the software in a telecommunication switch that was damaged or requires a new dialing plan data configuration.

  • Patent number: 6443010
Abstract: An apparatus for detecting blockage of a porous medium of an air filter utilized to filter air within a forced air stream contained within an enclosure. The air filter extends in a direction transverse to a direction of the forced air stream. The detection is accomplished with an opening in the porous medium of a greater dimension than provided by the porous medium. The opening is defined by the porous medium of the air filter and extends through the porous medium through which airflow from the forced air stream passes. A flexible member is provided which is positioned within the air flow from the forced air stream which passes through the opening and received by the flexible member causing the flexible member to vibrate and emit an audible sound in response to the air flow.

  • Patent number: 6442256
Abstract: A system and method for utilizing suppressed ringing with a plurality of communication devices. The system creates a suppressed ringing signal, at a remote computer, for at least one of the plurality of communication devices, implements a protocol to direct the suppressed ringing signal to the communication device through a private network and transmits the suppressed ringing signal from the remote computer, through the private network, to the communication device.

  • Patent number: 6434125
Abstract: In a digital cellular communications network, calls to and from a fax machine or other data equipment coupled to a digital phone require special encoding circuitry. Calls to and from a fax machine or other data device using amplitude and/or phase modulated tones can be handled more efficiently by monitoring such incoming calls for the presence of audio control tones. Upon the detection of such tones, appropriate encoding circuitry is automatically switched in to properly encode/decode data tones so as to permit the automatic transmission of data over a wireless cellular network using CDMA, TDMA or other digital protocols.

  • Patent number: 6389123
Abstract: A representation is determined from a first portion of automated number identification information. The representation has a decreased size relative to the first portion of the automated number identification information. The representation is employed with a second portion of the automated number identification information to determine a network control point address. The network control point address stores information related to call handling. In one example, a first stage component determines the representation, and a second stage component determines the network control point address.
