  • Patent number: 4430994
Abstract: Respiratory gas is delivered to a patient enclosure past a variably heated surface over which a film of water migrates and whose wetness is visible through a transparent cover which is recessed at the water film side to define water inlet, gas flow, and excess water removal paths.

  • Patent number: 4423599
Abstract: A system is provided in which a metered amount of water is converted to steam in a solar collector which employs an elongated convex lens to concentrate solar radiation on an elongated flow tube. The stream is supplied to a concentric rotor turbine whose rotor includes driving portions which rotate in response to steam pressure on one axis and which includes a driven output element that rotates on a different axis.

  • Patent number: 4418858
Abstract: To permit accomplishment of wire bonding at a depth that precludes the use of the conventional clamp adjacent to the bonding tool, a new tool is provided which includes a means for preventing bowing of the wire and a method of using such a tool which substantially obviates any need to feed wire by pushing. The bond is completed at the second circuit point after a special motion which pays out a length of wire sufficient to maintain a loop of wire between the first and second bond points. Another special motion breaks the wire after the second bond and positions and shapes the wire end for making another initial bond.

  • Patent number: 4414924
Abstract: An improved supplemental air flow and water injection system for internal combustion engines includes an air and water mixing chamber (24, 96) the contents of which are delivered to the intake fuel manifold of an internal combustion engine. Water is delivered from a storage reservoir (36) to one inlet opening (106) of the mixing chamber, and supplemental air is delivered to the chamber through a normally spring opened, pneumatic check valve (84, 110). The valve and the mixing chamber inlets and outlets are arranged physically so that at low negative pressures at the input manifold the air flow aspirates water into the mixing chamber (24, 96), but so that water is drawn into the chamber by a suction at higher negative pressures in the fuel inlet manifold.

  • Patent number: 4395156
Abstract: A particulate material spreader suitable for spreading asphalt on roadways and other paved surfaces is formed by a bucket which has a back and side walls but no bottom, and arms by which it may be carried at the rear of a vehicle and lifted or lowered by a hydraulic mechanism. Height adjusters at the sides of the bucket hold the lower edge of the back of the bucket at selected height above the roadway whereby a layer of asphalt is metered from the bottom of the bucket as the remainder of a pile of asphalt is raked away by the bucket.

  • Patent number: 4395651
Abstract: A remote disconnect coupler 18 for accomplishing switching at the end of a transmission line 12 between a test apparatus 24 and normally connected equipment 20 in response to signals from a remote command apparatus 16 includes a piezo-electric switch actuator 26 and command identification apparatus 28. In preferred forms the identification apparatus times reswitching and accomplishes snap switch action with oscillatory switch actuators 150 and dual switch actuators 116, 120.

  • Patent number: 4392857
Abstract: A tube holder includes a clamp formed by a clamp base and a wrap-around strap. The strap is fixed at one end to the base and, after wrapping around the tube, is locked to the clamp base at a point along its length in a double locking system.

  • Patent number: 4392335
Abstract: A repair overlay for masonry surfaces includes three layers each containing epoxy resins which contribute to bonding to the adjacent layers. The underlayer is a coating of epoxy adhesive. The layer that overlies the underlayer includes Portland cement and epoxy, acrylic and vinyl polymers and, in some forms, a flexible metal mesh or screen. The overlayer consists of an epoxy paint and, in preferred form, a second thinner layer of cementitious polymer bearing material.

  • Patent number: 4386341
Abstract: A security device incorporates apparatus for producing a special alarm sound in response to a change in acceleration sensed with a special omnidirectional sensor and under the control of special SCR circuitry. The circuitry and sensor are especially adapted for the security application but have independent utility. The alarm generates two tones in the middle audio range, separated by 50 to 200 Hz. One of those tones is interrupted at a sub-audible rate of 3 to 8 Hz. The resulting alarm, at high volume levels, is of enhanced urgency, compelling a hearer to escape, the compulsion being of a degree not easily overcome by reason.

  • Patent number: 4369589
Abstract: Separation of the upper from the midsole, and separation of the midsole from the main sole, of shoes resulting from the kind of forces that are applied during the practice in bowling and other sports is minimized or prevented by the use of a wrap-around member in the toe region of the shoe. The lower margin of that wrap-around member is sandwiched between the midsole and the sole of the shoe, and it is wrapped around and over the midsole and up the side of the upper where it is fastened in a way that combines with a lock stitch that binds together the wrap-around member, the midsole, and the sole so that forces that would otherwise tend to separate midsole from the upper tend, if anything, to relieve pressure on that juncture.

  • Patent number: 4365197
Abstract: A combination of magnetics and a special geometric environment is employed to distinguish whether an instrument is positioned within a pipe formed of magnetizable or non-magnetizable material, and is the basis, in part, for a method and an apparatus used in controlling picture taking at the bottom of a well bore. A coil is energized repetitively in a circuit in which the voltage across the coil, or the current that flows through the coil, can be measured. Whether the coil is in a magnetic or non-magnetic environment is determined by the magnitude of the change in coil voltage or current.
