    Abstract: A process for producing ortho-nitroaromatic acids in high yields is disclosed. The process comprises reacting an ortho-nitroaromatic having at least one nitro group ortho to at least one oxidizable group with molecular oxygen in an inert reaction medium in the conjoint presence of a co-oxidizable compound, a heavy metal catalyst and bromine.
