  • Patent number: 6510681
Abstract: Sickle cutting systems of the type used in mowers and other harvesting machines. A sickle is shown consisting of 1½ inches blade spacing with serrated or smooth knife sections, a knifeback bar and a knife head, a plurality of knife or sickle guards with alternate long and short prongs or fingers spaced at two inches of any number that are mounted to the support bar of a mower, harvesting machine, or the like and provide a cutting surface for the sickle, adjustable hold-down clips that hold the knife sections down to the cutting surface, and a driving mechanism with a three-inch stroke such as a wobble joint, a pitman type, or other device which can convert rotary motion to reciprocating motion. In a second embodiment, a staggered sickle cutting system is provided that demonstrates the benefits of the sickle cutting system with even greater efficiency and reduces sickle stress and vibration.

  • Patent number: 6477872
Abstract: A storage unit door locking system is shown for securing and locking a storage unit door and preventing forced entry wherein the door is attached to a doorjamb. The locking system has a door plate which is mounted to the door with an extension plate that extends beyond the edge of the door and abuts the front face of the doorjamb when the door is closed. A sliding bolt slidably mounted to, but spaced apart from, the door plate slides behind the doorjamb trapping the doorjambs between the extension plate and the sliding bolt. A recessed lock is inserted through matching aligned holes in the extension plate, doorjamb, and sliding bolt and locked. This physically locks the doorjamb to the extension plate and sliding bolt which prevents forced entry with the use of crowbars or other prying devices normally used to separate the doorjamb from the door and locks contained thereon.

  • Patent number: 6471231
Abstract: An electrical braking system is shown for a lightweight manual wheelchair. A rechargeable battery source on the wheelchair connects through a switch to a linear actuator for operation of an actuator rod. The actuator rod connects through a pulley to a single braking cable that connects to left and right caliper brakes mounted on the left and right wheels. Moving the center OFF switch a first direction will move the actuator rod, pull the braking cable, and apply both brakes. Moving the center OFF switch a second direction will move the actuator rod the opposite direction which releases the braking cable and hence the brakes. As soon as the switch returns to OFF, the linear actuator maintains the same amount of braking pressure, if any. A limit switch prevents too much braking pressure from being applied and protects the linear actuator.

  • Patent number: 6429650
Abstract: A method and apparatus is shown for implementing magnetostrictive sensor techniques for the nondestructive evaluation of pipes or tubes. A magnetostrictive sensor generates guided waves in a pipe or tube, which waves travel therethrough in a direction parallel to the longitudinal axis of the pipe or tube. This is achieved by using a magnetized ferromagnetic strip being pressed circumferentially against the pipe or tube. The guided waves are generated in the strip and coupled to the pipe or tube and propagate along the length of said pipe or tube. For detection, the guided waves in said pipe or tube are coupled to the thin ferromagnetic strip and are detected by receiving MsS coils. Reflected guided waves may represent defects in the pipe or tube.

  • Patent number: 6424150
Abstract: A method and apparatus is shown for implementing magnetostrictive sensor techniques for the nondestructive evaluation of railroad rails. The system includes magnetostrictive sensors specifically designed for application in conjunction with railroad rails and trains that generate guided waves in the railroad rails which travel therethrough in a direction parallel to the surface of the railroad rail. Similarly structured sensors are positioned to detect the guided waves (both incident and reflected) and generate signals representative of the characteristics of the guided waves detected that are reflected from anomalies in the structure such as transverse defects. The sensor structure is longitudinal in nature and generates a guided wave having a wavefront parallel to the longitudinal axis of the sensor, and which propagates in a direction perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the sensor. The generated guided waves propagate in the rail within the path of the propagating wave.

  • Patent number: 6404189
Abstract: A method and system for implementing magnetostrictive sensor techniques for the nondestructive evaluation of pipeline structures. The system consists of a magnetostrictive sensor instrument unit, a data storage unit, and a plurality of magnetostrictive sensor probes are positioned on an in-line inspection vehicle. The instrumentation unit includes electronics for transmitting excitation pulses to a transmitting magnetostrictive sensor probe as well as electronics for amplifying and conditioning the signals detected by a receiving magnetostrictive sensor probe. The magnetostrictive sensor probes include both plate magnetostrictive sensors and permanent magnets which provide a DC bias magnetic field necessary for magnetostrictive sensor operation. The transmitting and receiving probes are attached to the in-line inspection vehicle by way of mechanical arms on opposing sides of the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 6398311
Abstract: A custom wheel assembly that reduces and/or eliminates vibration of vehicles that utilize custom wheels. This is accomplished through the use of a hub ring that is placed over the center hub of a wheel hub, but behind the wheel. This renders the wheel hub-centric to reduce and/or eliminate the vibration. The hub ring is held in place by a center cap that fits over the center hub and attaches to the hub ring.

  • Patent number: 6396262
Abstract: A method and apparatus is shown for implementing magnetostrictive sensor techniques for the nondestructive short term inspection or long term monitoring of a structure. A plurality of magnetostrictive sensors are arranged in parallel on the structure and includes (a) a thin ferromagnetic strip that has residual magnetization, (b) that is coupled to the structure with a couplant, and (c) a coil located adjacent the thin ferromagnetic strip. By a transmitting coil, guided waves are generated in a transmitting strip and coupled to the structure and propagate along the length of the structure. For detection, the reflected guided waves in the structure are coupled to a receiving strip and are detected by a receiving magnetostrictive coil. Reflected guided waves may represent defects in the structure.

  • Patent number: 6380924
Abstract: This apparatus is an add-on computer component peripheral for existing computer systems. The mouse/keyboard capture recorder (MCR) is capable of recording keyboard keystrokes, mouse coordinate movements, and mouse actions such as left, middle and right mouse clicks and/or mouse drag movements. The MCR has external cables that connect inline to a host computer's external keyboard and mouse without modification on the host computer system and its peripherals. The MCR apparatus operates independently of the hardware and software that is installed on a host computer system. A microprocessor monitors and controls all operations and stores mouse actions and keyboard actions in non-volatile memory during the MCR's record mode. In the MCR play mode, the apparatus will transmit the stored keyboard/mouse data by sending electrical signals representing the stored data to a host computer system via the mouse port and the keyboard port.
