  • Patent number: 7573261
Abstract: A method is shown for magnetostrictive testing of structures using a magnetostrictive strip and magnetostrictive techniques. A torsional guided wave is generated in the magnetostrictive strip which is dry coupled or bonded to the structure. A magnetic field creates an induced bias along the longitudinal axis of the magnetostrictive strip, which magnetic field is sufficiently strong so that when an AC pulse applies an AC bias perpendicular to the induced bias, the AC bias does not override or saturate the induced bias. This allows for an increased signal to noise ratio in a reflected signal indicating a defect in the structure. The induce bias and the AC bias are created by respective windings around the magnetostrictive strip, which windings are perpendicular to each other.

  • Patent number: 7530200
Abstract: A gutter retaining system incorporating a gutter clip with a gutter and retaining member. Retaining member is placed along the eaves. The gutter clip has L-portion and back portion. Back portion includes upper u-portion with hanger for slipping gutter clip over gutter for securing to gutter clip. Gutter clip has nib end with locking tip. Nib end fits within retaining member to secure gutter clip and gutter in place. L-portion fits between the gutter and building where an additional piece of board is included. The gutter clip is scored between the back portion and L-portion allowing separation if needed. A second embodiment provides a retaining member for use with metal flashing. Additional embodiments provided modified retaining members which permit the gutter system to be held against a building with straight fascia, slanted fascia, and trim board and which permit free floating attachment of a debris guard.

  • Patent number: 7513380
Abstract: A self closing container having inner and outer sleeves. Outer sleeve surrounds inner sleeve and can freely slide on inner sleeve by lifting outer sleeve or handle. When container is closed, lid covers magnets, mouth magnets, mouth magnet platform, and mouth platform. When closed, bar magnet component is positioned over mouth magnets which permits mouth cover to cover mouth. When outer sleeve is raised, it raises ring in lid. In raised position, lid cover magnets on ring are repelled by corresponding magnets on lid cover. When ring is raised, mouth magnet platforms are raised. Mouth magnet platforms have two mouth magnets, one positioned toward mouth and one positioned toward back of the lid. When raised, mouth cover is moved backward to an open position with the use of the bar magnet component. When handle or outer sleeve is released all components return to their original positions effectively closing the container.

  • Patent number: 7506688
Abstract: The present invention includes a method and system for detecting and locating a breach of a pipe in nested multi-pipe petroleum wells through the use and measurement of pressure valves and pressure sensors. The system “locates” breaches in the sense that it determines in which pipe or pipes, if any, in a nested multi-pipe production well the breach exists. The method comprises the steps of, first, connecting at least two of the well pipes of a nested multi-pipe production well to a collection reservoir to allow fluid communication from the well into the reservoir; second, sealing the well pipes to maintain the pressure therein; third, measuring a pressure parameter within each of said at least two well pipes until said pressure parameter indicates a stabilization of pressure therein; fourth, altering the pressure within one of the well pipes; fifth, measuring a pressure parameter within the other well pipes; and sixth, stabilizing the pressure in the well pipe within which the pressure was previously altered.

  • Patent number: 7497077
Abstract: An aqueous urea dosing system has a first tube through which the urea solution is conveyed to a small mixing chamber. Compressed air is continuously conveyed through an annular space between the outer surface of the first tube and the inner surface of a second tube which has a distal end that extends beyond a distal end of the first tube. The mixing chamber is positioned between the respective distal ends of the first and second tubes. The urea solution is discharged into the small mixing chamber, and subsequently immediately into an exhaust gas, in a series of discreet pulses, the width and period of which are controlled by a pulse-width-modulated flow control valve spaced from the exhaust gas.

  • Patent number: 7459067
Abstract: A semi-permanent reference electrode for use in monitoring and measuring metals in field applications, such as cathodic protection. This electrode has an outer electrode body with a cap and porous plug. The outer electrode body is filled with a fill solution which is a saturated salt solution formed from a solid salt. The solid salt is hygroscopic with a low deliquescence point. An opening is provided in the cap to allow moisture into the outer electrode body to combine with the fill solution to maintain the saturated salt solution in the field. This saturated salt solution must maintain a constant pH for use in the semi-permanent reference electrode. A wire is used within the outer electrode body which connects to a voltmeter. This voltmeter measures the potential difference between the reference electrode and the field component of interest, which can include pipelines, storage tanks and bridges.

  • Patent number: 7424859
Abstract: A shallow water boat is shown that operates well in both shallow water and deep water. A tunnel is provided along a centerline of a flat bottom, which tunnel starts near amidships increases in depth and terminates at the aft of the shallow water boat. A top of the tunnel has an S curve therein. A front end of the tunnel connects through a series of angled holes into a plenum via a conduit to atmosphere above the maximum water line of the shallow water boat. During shallow water operation, the motor is raised and the conduit is plugged so water flows through the tunnel to the propeller for the motor. During deep water operation, the motor is lowered and the conduit unplugged so that water does not flow through the tunnel.

  • Patent number: RE40515
Abstract: A method and system for implementing magnetostrictive sensor techniques for the nondestructive evaluation of pipeline structures. The system consists of a magnetostrictive sensor instrument unit, a data storage unit, and a plurality of magnetostrictive sensor probes are positioned on an in-line inspection vehicle. The instrumentation unit includes electronics for transmitting excitation pulses to a transmitting magnetostrictive sensor probe as well as electronics for amplifying and conditioning the signals detected by a receiving magnetostrictive sensor probe. The magnetostrictive sensor probes include both plate magnetostrictive sensors and permanent magnets which provide a DC bias magnetic field necessary for magnetostrictive sensor operation. The transmitting and receiving probes are attached to the in-line inspection vehicle by way of mechanical arms on opposing sides of the vehicle.
