Abstract: Oxide complex catalysts comprising Fe-Sb-Bi-O.sub.x promoted with a wide variety of different elements have been found to be especially useful in the ammoxidation of olefins to nitriles such as acrylonitrile and methacrylonitrile. Not only are the desired nitriles obtained with high yields when these catalysts are used, but also the production of unwanted liquid byproducts such as acrolein, acrylic acid and acetonitrile is significantly reduced.

Abstract: This invention relates to a process for separating heavy water from solutions. An anionic surfactant system is added to a solution of deuterium oxide in water. The separating agent added to the solution will form a first phase containing a majority of the surfactant with an increased concentration of D.sub.2 O and a second phase containing excess water with a decreased concentration of D.sub.2 O. The first stage is separated from the second stage, and the process is optionally repeated in a multi-stage or a continuous operation.
Abstract: The invention is an oxidation catalyst which contains at least a Group IIA or Group IIB element or manganese plus as required elements, chromium, bismuth and molybdenum. The catalysts can optionally contain a number of other elements and are useful for various oxidation reactions, especially the ammoxidation of propylene or isobutylene to obtain acrylonitrile or methacrylonitrile, the oxidation of propylene or isobutylene to obtain acrolein or methacrolein and the oxidative dehydrogenation of olefins containing 4 or 5 carbon atoms to obtain the corresponding diolefin.
Abstract: Antimonate-based redox catalysts are produced by a single slurry technique using a silica sol and fumed silica to supply the catalyst support.

Abstract: A multi-stage dehydrogenation process for preparing indene and substituted indenes from indene precursors more saturated than indene is described. The process comprises the steps of(a) contacting said indene precursor in a first dehydrogenation zone with a dehydrogenation catalyst at an elevated temperature to form an intermediate product,(b) advancing the product of the first dehydrogenation zone to a second dehydrogenation zone,(c) contacting said product in the second dehydrogenation zone with a second dehydrogenation catalyst at an elevated temperature, and(d) recovering indene or a substituted indene from said second zone. The process of the invention results in yields of indene which are enhanced when compared to single stage, essentially isothermal processes using a single catalyst.

Abstract: The present invention is a catalyst composition consisting of oxides or oxide complexes that contains catalytically significant amounts of cerium, tungsten, vanadium and molybdenum plus optionally one or more of Fe, Co, Ni, Zn, Cu, Mg, Mn, Bi, Ti, Zr, Sn, P, an alkali metal, an alkaline earth metal, lanthanum or an element of the lanthanoid series. These catalysts are especially useful for producing acrylic acid from acrolein and for producing methacrylic acid from methacrolein.
Abstract: The production of acrylates and methacrylates, made by the oxidative esterification of propylene or isobutylene wherein gaseous reactants are contacted with one or more catalysts and ethylene or an alcohol can be advantageously conducted in a single fluid bed reactor to obtain the desired ester.
