  • Patent number: 5876655
Abstract: A large surface shaped structure having a smooth surface is formed by compression molding a charge (26) of reinforced molding material containing a thermoplastic material by placing a heated mold charge (26) in a mold (12, 14) which has its peripheral surfaces spaced apart to provide a shear gap (34). The width of the shear gap (34) is adjusted to accept a quantity of molding material sufficient to dissipate residual energy in the flow front of the charge to prevent rebound of the flow front as the structure solidifies.

  • Patent number: 5609960
Abstract: A process for forming an overcoat by the two-coat one-bake method wherein a basecoat composition and a clear coat composition are applied to a substrate wet-on-wet and thereafter cured at the same time by heating, the process being characterized in that the base coat composition is a coating composition consisting primarily of a hydroxyl-containing resin, an amine resin, a pigment and an organic solvent, the clear coat composition being a coating composition comprising:(A) at least one resin selected from the group consisting of (i) a resin having at least one epoxy group and at least one hydroxyl group in the molecue, (ii) a resin mixture of (ii-1) a resin having at least two epoxy groups in the molecule and (ii-2) a resin having at least two hydroxyl groups in the molecule, (iii) a resin having at least two epoxy groups in the molecule, and (iv) any mixture thereof,(B) a crosslinking agent comprising a compound having at least two noncyclic acid anhydride groups and represented by the formula ##STR1## where

  • Patent number: 5597874
Abstract: A coating composition containing about 45-80% by weight of a binder and 20-55% by weight of an organic liquid; wherein the binder contains(A) about 40-90% by weight, based on the weight of the binder, of an acrylic polymer containing polymerized hydroxyl containing monomers of the following group of hydroxy alkyl acrylate or methacrylates having 1-4 carbon atoms in the alkyl group, and polymerized alkyl acrylates and methacrylates having 1-18 carbon atoms in the alkyl groups, or styrene or any mixtures of the above and 0.1-5.0% by weight, based on the weight of the acrylic polymer, of polymerized fluoroalkyl containing monomer represented by the formula ##STR1## where R is hydrogen or an alkyl group having 1-2 carbon atoms, n is an integer of 1-11 and R.sub.f is a fluoroalkyl containing group having at least 4 carbon atoms and(B) about 10-60% by weight, based on the weight of the binder, of a fluorinated organic polyisocyanate crosslinking agent.

  • Patent number: 4791179
Abstract: A solvent-based thermosetting coating composition comprising a hydroxy functional epoxy-polyester graft copolymer and polyfunctional, hydroxy-reactive crosslinking agent. The coating composition may be formulated as a hot sprayable, high solids coating composition suitable for use as a chip resistant automotive vehicle primer adapted for use on body panel areas subject to chipping by stones, gravel and other road debris. The composition may also be formulated as a high solids composition sprayable with conventional spraying equipment. Hydroxy-functional epoxy-polyester graft copolymer is prepared by polymerization of lactone monomers in the presence of hydroxy functional epoxy ester resin precursor. The precursor is the reaction product of modified diepoxide and hydroxy functional secondary amine in about a 1:1 equivalent ratio.
