Abstract: Prior to pumping completion brine fluid into a wellbore, an additive comprising two percent (2%) of a 0.25% solution of polyacrylamide is blended into the completion brine fluid thereby producing a treated brine fluid. This blending would be performed in tanks at the wellsite. The treated brine fluid is then pumed into the wellbore. In addition, or in the alternative, a new perforating gun stores the polyacrylamide additive composition. When the perforating gun detonates, the additive is disbursed into the completion brine fluid disposed in the annulus of the wellbore. For example, the new perforating gun may include a plurality of shaped charges coated with a lacquer of the polyacrylamide additive, or it may include one or more containers which contain the polyacrylamide additive. When the brine completion fluid is pumped into the wellbore annulus, a detonation wave conducts in a detonating cord of the perforating gun. The detonation wave passes through each of the containers.

Abstract: A distributed microbending sensor cable is described comprising a core structure having discontinuities or ridges on its surface which ridges extend longitudinally of the core. An optical fiber is wrapped helically about the core in contact with the ridges with the adjacent contact points in one embodiment being a distance apart which is the distortion wave length of the selected optical fiber. In a modification of the sensor cable the distance .LAMBDA. between adjacent contact points is varied along the length of the sensor to impart a weighted characteristic to the sensor response.
Abstract: The invention relates to method and apparatus for determining the flow rate of fluid in a well over an interval including zones where fluid is exchanged between the well and the formations through which it is bored.A logging sonde is used to measure the temperature of the fluid along said interval, and the flow rate is measured at least at the ends of the interval. Then for each depth, a flow rate value is determined from the measured temperatures and flow rates, and the set of values obtained in this way are recorded.

Abstract: Improvement of the signal-to-noise ratio for a wideband video signal is effected by subtraction from the wideband video signal of a signal which follows low-amplitude excursions of the video signal's high frequency component. The latter signal is formed by a circuit arrangement which includes a high pass filter, of a C-R differentiator form, coupled to the input of an amplifier. A negative feedback path, coupled between the amplifier output and the junction of capacitive and resistive elements of the differentiator includes threshold devices which permit activation of the negative feedback path only during input signal excursions which exceed selected close-to-axis limits.
