Abstract: A method is disclosed for patterning a textile substrate by treating the substrate surface in a pattern configuration, for example, using heated air streams, to allow a later-applied solvent to extract dye from the treated areas at a faster rate than from untreated areas. A patterned product is also disclosed.
Abstract: An improved warp knitting machine employing compound needles and an interconnected trick-sinker mechanism which maintains a fixed relationship with the knitting needles and tends to hold the knitted fabric in line with the back guide bar to lessen the stress on the knitting needles. Each of the guide bars include a hollow guide tube to guide the warp yarn to a point closely adjacent the top of the knitting needle to reduce the necessary vertical stroke of the knitting needles.
Abstract: A pneumatically actuated hole punch which employs a ball and die punching arrangement in which the ball is free floating and the punching impact is between the ball and the plunger rather than between the ball and the die. The plunger incorporates a concave surface to correctly position the ball relative to the die upon cutting of the desired opening.
Abstract: Method to produce a spun-like textured yarn comprised of one yarn which is substantially fully oriented and the other yarn is partially oriented. The method involves plying the yarns in the draw zone before being pre-textured. The ply point of the plied yarns is located above the entrance to the heater in the draw zone.
Abstract: Method and apparatus for pressurized fluid stream treatment of the surface of a relatively moving substrate to impart visual surface changes thereto, and resulting products. The apparatus includes a fluid discharge manifold comprising an elongate compartment with discharge slot disposed across the path of relative movement of the substrate to discharge pressurized heated fluid, such as air, in one or more narrow discrete streams into the surface of a substrate, such as a textile fabric. A plurality of spaced, cooler air outlets are disposed in the discharge slot of the manifold to selectively direct pressurized cooler air across the slot in accordance with pattern information to block the heated air streams. The slot of the discharge manifold also may be provided with an elongate shim member having a plurality of spaced notches along a side edge for discharge of the heated fluid onto the surface of the substrate to form a desired pattern.
Abstract: Dye spring protection system which employs a substantially circular member between each yarn package being dyed and allows the dye packages to abut one another but at the same time protects the ends of the dye spring. The dye spring protector has an internal groove therein to accommodate the top and bottom of a dye spring during dyeing of yarn wound on the spring.
Abstract: Method and apparatus to automatically dispense aromatic vapor to a desired area by causing the vapor to be evenly dispensed to the selected area over a pre-determined length of time. The vapor is circulated from the dispenser by a device to which the curent thereto is gradually increased as the vapor producing substance in the dispenser is dissipated.
Abstract: A compound is provided of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is selected from alkyl, halide, or alkoxy; R.sub.2 is selected from H or alkyl; Y is a number of from 2 to about 200; and Z is selected from H or ##STR2## where W is alkyl.

Abstract: A water jet loom in which the catch cord guide plate flange portion is located between the feeler fingers of the loom and the catch cord guide is substantially in line with the outermost feeler finger to reduce the amount of fill yarn supplied to the catch cord of the loom.
Abstract: A machine and method to operate the machine to provide a plurality of valve-like perforations in the rubber-like backing of a nap mat or carpet by delivering the nap mat or carpet to and under a spiked roll. The machine includes a plurality of narrow bands located longitudinally of the machine to guide the nap mat or carpet away from the spiked roll after the spikes or pins on the roll have entered the rubber-like backing material to form the valves therein.

Abstract: A machine and method to operate the machine to provide a plurality of valve-like perforations in the rubber-like backing of a nap mat or carpet by delivering the nap map or carpet to and under a spiked roll. The machine includes a back up roll with grooves therein which prevents grooving of the conveyor belt by the pins or spikes on the spiked roll.
Abstract: A drum truck which has additional wheels to support the load on the truck as the load is being transported from one place to another. Additionally, the drum truck provides a mechanism to lock the load to the truck and a support providing a bearing surface for the support structure of the truck when in the load bearing position.
Abstract: Apparatus and method to raise the edge fibers of a cut pile carpet tile to ensure that they are cut by the rotating shear which is cutting the rest of the fibers in the tile. The tiles are overfed into the shear so that they abut one another causing the edge fiber, on the edge transverse to the direction of travel of the tiles, to be pushed upwardly. At a position adjacent the shearing member air under pressure is supplied against the traveling edge of the carpet tile to project the edge fibers into the upstanding position.
Abstract: An underlay for carpets and especially carpet tiles having a scrim supported, lower foam rubber portion and a Mylar upper portion having adhesive on both sides to provide an attachment to the lower portion and an adhesive upper portion for attachment to a carpet tile. The upper adhesive layer is protected by a release paper which is removed to install carpet tiles thereon. An alternate form of the invention eliminates the use of the scrim layer and the bottom layer of adhesive.
Abstract: A colored thermoplastic resin composition is provided which comprises a thermoplastic resin and a colorant in the form of an alkyleneoxy-substituted chromophore group provided in said thermoplastic resin in a minor amount sufficient to provide coloration to said thermoplastic resin. A process for preparing colored thermoplastic resins is also provided.

Abstract: A display arrangement for a video screen and a key board operably associated therewith in which the video is capable of vertical and horizontal rotary adjustment in conjunction with vertical and horizontal rotary motion of the key board. A shield is provided for the video screen to protect it from corrosive elements in the surrounding atmosphere.
Abstract: Apparatus and method to detect high tension in a web material being taken-up and cutting off the take-up device upon such detection to prevent stretching and necking of the fabric being handled. The detection device provides a time delay between detection of the condition of high tension and deactivation of the fabric take-up apparatus.
Abstract: Method and apparatus to subject the face and back side of a fabric to successive impacting by a plurality of flaps to break up the fiber or filament bond thereof and increase the yarn-to-yarn mobility therein. The fabric is supplied at an angle to the impacting flaps and the flaps do not compact the fabric therebetween and cause a streak or lie therein.
