  • Patent number: 6530345
Abstract: A tangle free lead device has a coupler with first and second bores in axial alignment. A first linear element is rotatably received in the first bore and a second linear element is rotatably received in the second bore. A head on each linear element, positioned in a central aperture of a main body of the coupler retains the linear element axially in the coupler. The relative position of the heads of the respective elements also delimit the axial movement of the linear elements relative to each other.

  • Patent number: 6490953
Abstract: The present invention provides novel ratchet head configurations for externally capturing a ratchet mechanism within the head of a powered ratchet wrench, such as a pneumatic ratchet wrench for example. Externally capturing the ratchet mechanism prevents the separation of the ears of the ratchet mechanism, caused by the application of torque to the ratchet head design. In prior art designs, repeated application of torque to the ratchet head caused separation of the ratchet head ears, and in turn, malfunctioning of the ratchet caused by loss of tension between the yoke of the ratchet and ratchet head itself. By preventing the ears from separating, the present invention maintains proper operation, and increased tool life. Furthermore, the tools maintenance and repair costs are decreased.

  • Patent number: 6484644
Abstract: An articulated railcar has several well car units for carrying shipping containers, highways trailers, or a combination of the two. The well car units permit the nose of a highway trailer to overhang the articulated connection between two adjacent cars. A brake valve is located in a relief formed in the main bolster of one of the articulated units, out of the way of the overhanging trailer. Each well car unit has a side beam having a roll formed top chord reinforced by a top chord plate, a downwardly extending web, and a lower sill formed of a thick angle. The service, or auxiliary, and emergency brake reservoirs are mounted in a saddle bag configuration to the outside face of the webs of the opposite side beams of the articulated unit, tucked underneath the reinforced roll formed top chord.

  • Patent number: 6465318
Abstract: This invention relates to a bi-polar transistor and a procedure for its manufacture. The task of the invention is to propose a bi-polar transistor and a procedure for its manufacture that eliminates the disadvantages of conventional arrangements for a simple polysilicon technology with differential epitaxy for the manufacture of the base, in order to further improve especially the high-speed properties of a bi-polar transistor, to produce highly conductive connections between the metal contacts and the active (inner) transistor region as well as a minimized passive transistor surface, and to simultaneously avoid any additional process complexity and increased contact resistance. This invention resolves the task in that, by creating suitable epitaxy process conditions, the polysilicon layer is deposited on the insulator zone with a greater thickness than the epitaxy layer in the active transistor zone.

  • Patent number: 6460401
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of trace analysis of organic compounds which calls for the steps of setting a test piece in a flow cell, and thereafter removing organic compounds from the test piece by heating it at high temperature in an oven. The compounds are concentrated in a trap tube and then removed from the trap tube and carried into a concentrating/inlet unit, such as a thermal desorption cold trap injector. In this unit, cryofocusing of the compounds is performed, and then the organic compounds are introduced into a gas chromatograph to be analyzed therein, wherein a part of the purified inert gas is caused, except during the process of trapping the organic compounds, to flow into the flow cell from the direction opposite the direction from which the gas flows along the trapping line.

  • Patent number: 6446561
Abstract: A railcar has a substructure, a superstructure and intermediate webwork sides joining the substructure and the superstructure to form a truss-like structure for carrying automobiles. The resultant truss-like structure does not have a straight through center sill, but does retain end stub sills. The main deck of this structure can be depressed between the railcar trucks, and, in combination with a vehicle supporting deck structure allows vehicles of a greater height to be carried in the depressed center than over the end structure above the railcar trucks. The integrated structure, including a structurally significant roof frame, is also used to support the vehicle carrying decking.

  • Patent number: 6422967
Abstract: A motor vehicle interaxle differential including a bevel gear design and utilizing an interaxle differential housing having a one-piece construction. A splined input shaft extending from the motor vehicle transmission mates with the inside diameter of a splined trunnion on the interaxle differential housing to provide input torque. The interior of the interaxle differential housing includes four (4) substantially flat thrust surfaces for support of left and right side gears and first and second pinion mate gears. The first pinion mate gear and the second pinion mate gear are retained in the interaxle differential housing by stub shafts which are threaded into the interaxle differential housing wall. The stub shaft design includes a shoulder to provide controlled perpendicularity and torque retention and a recessed socket head to facilitate installation. A housing endcap is utilized for sealing and supporting the interaxle differential housing bearing and the input shaft.

  • Patent number: 6390244
Abstract: A brake wear indicator to provide visual and tactile indication of unacceptable brake wear. The brake wear indicator has a hub drive attached to a cam shaft, a brake wear disk attached to the hub drive and a body attached to a slack adjuster lever. The brake wear disk has a wear detector lug. The body has two the travel limit lugs which extend towards the centerline of the brake wear disk and are on the end of flexible fingers. When the brake linings are approaching unacceptable wear, the wear detector lug contacts one of the travel limit lugs and pushes the travel limit lug and the end of the corresponding finger away from the adjacent outer surface of the body. The rising of the end of the finger above the adjacent surface provides visual and tactile indication of unacceptable brake wear.
