  • Patent number: 8084593
Abstract: The invention provides an isolated nucleic acid encoding a TRIM—cyclophilin A fusion sequence encoding a TRIMcyp fusion protein which is active as an anti-viral agent, and in particular an anti-HIV-1 agent. The invention provides for a nucleic acid encoding a polypeptide having both TRIM activity and cyclophilin activity. The invention provides for an isolated polynucleotide encoding a TRIM-cyclophilin fusion protein, or variants thereof retaining the TRIM and cyclophilin activities. The invention provides for compositions thereof, antibodies that specifically bind thereto, and vectors and host cells comprising the nucleic acid or polypeptide. In addition, the invention provides for methods for treating or preventing viral infection, or reducing viral load in a subject comprising administering the nucleic acid, polypeptide, vector, or composition to the subject in an amount effective to treat or prevent the viral infection.

  • Patent number: 7682641
Abstract: The invention can be summarized as follows. There is provided a method for preserving the quality of a perishable product comprising the step of treating the product with one or more near-infrared lights, wherein preferably at least one near-infrared light is a near-infrared laser (or laser diode). The perishable product may be simultaneously treated with a magnetic field. The invention also pertains to an apparatus that may be used to preserve the quality of a perishable product.

  • Patent number: 7305360
Abstract: A method comprises making a set of personal profiles available, from at least one buy-side user to at least one sell-side user, each personal profile in the set of personal profiles including a first set of first values for a plurality of information fields, the plurality of information fields relating to commercial transactions. Based upon the at least part of the set of personal profiles, the method receives a request to enter into a trusted relationship from the at least one sell-side user at the at least one buy-side user, and receives a set of trusted relationship information from the at least one sell-side user at the at least one buy-side user. The method sends the set of trusted relationship information, from the at least one buy-side user to the at least one sell-side user.

  • Patent number: 6560614
Abstract: Updating a file which is currently open is accomplished by allowing current users to continue accessing the original file while redirecting new users to an updated version. When user activity permits, the updated version is substituted for the original file. An auxiliary program detects when a server application attempts to access an out-of-date file version and redirects the access call to the up-to-date file version. When no users are accessing the out-of-date file version, the up-to-date version of the file is substituted thereby allowing access to the most recent file version without creating errors for users who are accessing the older file version. New updates of files are transferred from a master site to a temporary location, accessible intermediate location, and finally to a permanent location.

  • Patent number: 6241985
Abstract: The invention concerns methods and compositions for intiating and/or enhancing an immune response by contacting a binding reagent with a soluble antigen, wherein the binding reagent-antigen pair generates an immune response to the antigen.

  • Patent number: 5968340
Abstract: A polarographic self-referencing probe uses an electrode that is oscillated between two positions. Depending on the electrode used and the voltage applied, the probe can be used to measure oxygen, nitric oxide, or other molecules or compounds.

  • Patent number: 5748004
Abstract: In a circuit for use with a micromachined device having a movable mass that forms an inner electrode of a differential capacitor, oppositely phased square waves are applied to two outer electrodes of the differential capacitor. A reset voltage is applied to the inner electrode synchronously with the square waves to stabilize and control the potential on the inner electrode. The signal on the inner electrode is demodulated by sampling during a first half of the square wave and a second half of the square wave between applications of the reset pulse to obtain a voltage that does not contain noise due to the reset switch.

  • Patent number: 5099840
Abstract: A diathermy unit has a power oscillator with a resonant circuit arranged to be coupled to the load represented by the tissue to be treated. The resonant circuit includes a capacitor for connection in series with the load such that the resonant frequency varies with the load resistance. The resulting self-tuning of the oscillator allows improved matching of the oscillator to the load with consequent improved efficiency, a feature especially useful for a battery-powered unit. Regulation of the output power of the unit makes use of a feedback loop including an analogue multiplier for receiving signals representative of the power of the output stage, the resulting product signal being used to control pulse width modulation of the oscillator.

  • Patent number: RE35971
Abstract: The invention features an elongated strip of resilient material, which strip is secured in and partially surrounds a mounting member, where the resilient strip member has a semi-cylindrical body with a pair of circumferentially facing edge portions. The resilient strip also includes a pair of oppositely disposed, radially-inwardly extending solid, wedge shaped latch members, each extending longitudinally of the latch member and located between one of the edge portions and a point 45 degrees away from the mid-line of the semi-cylindrical body. The mounting member includes a web portion having a pair of oppositely disposed web-latch extensions extending across a chord of the semi-cylindrical body, substantially parallel to a tangent to the circumference of the semi-cylindrical body at its mid-line, and at least one leg member extending from the web portion away from the semi-cylindrical body.
