A robot is disclosed which is made in accordance with the method.
Abstract: A gear cutter is provided as an accessory to a milling machine. A single gear cutting blade makes successive passes across a continuously rotating gear blank to cut a desired number of gear teeth. The cycle time of the cutting blade and the angular velocity of the gear blank are such that the gear blank increments a number of cut positions after each cut which number is greater than one and prime to the total number of gears to be cut. The accessory includes a pivotal and oscillating gear blank carriage. A blank on the carriage is rotated through change gears by a main timing shaft. The timing shaft also controls vertical movement of the cutting blade through a cam, a rack and pinion assembly and change gears. Further, through another cam the timing shaft controls retraction of the gear blank from the cutter blade. Proper selection of change gears enables cutting of gears of any pitch or diameter.

Abstract: In a display system for a data processing system color words for display at sequential pixels are obtained by addressing a lookup table memory with addresses obtained from a bit map display memory. Initialization data is stored in the display memory and, during an initialization procedure, is applied to the lookup table along the same data path used by the addresses during display. In one system a multiplexer takes the form of a shift register into which sequential pixel addresses are applied in parallel to interleaved stages. The two LUT addresses are read out sequentially by shifting the shift register. During the initialization procedure shifting is disabled and the interleaved address and data bytes are applied along separate address and data lines to the lookup table. One data path can be utilized for either eight plane or four plane display.
Abstract: In a copending application Ser. No. 298,065 filed Aug. 31, 1981 modular mixing apparatus has been disclosed combined with a barrel and main power driven extruder screw and the mixing apparatus is necessarily required to be at the same speed as the main power driven extruder screw and operates through a common barrel member. In the present invention improved modular mixing apparatus has been constructed and arranged to operate with independent drive means for rotation in a separate stationary sleeve member and extruded material leaving the main extruder screw and barrel is introduced into the mixing module. The mixing apparatus may, in this form, be driven at variable speeds which are independent of the speed of the main extruder screw. The improved modular mixing apparatus of this invention also includes a newly devised shearing lug module.

Abstract: The invention relates to visible-laser deposition reactions of metal containing oxyhalide and carbonyl vapors, such as, chromyl chloride vapor, CrO.sub.2 Cl.sub.2, or cobalt carbonyl, Co.sub.2 (CO).sub.8, for direct writing of metal containing opaque patterns on various substrates (S.sub.i, S.sub.i O.sub.2, GaAs and glass). Deposition at low laser power is by photolyses of adsorbed reactant molecules. Higher powers initiate deposition photochemically and continue it with a combined photolytic/pyrolytic reaction, simultaneously inducing a solid-phase conversion of the deposited film. Mixed Cr.sub.2 O.sub.3 /CrO.sub.2 or cobalt thin films of 1-nanometer to several-micrometer thickness, as well as 1-millimeter-long single crystals of Cr.sub.2 O.sub.3 or cobalt, can be grown with this process, the former at rates up to 3 /.mu.m/s. Thin chromium oxide films produced in this manner are strongly ferromagnetic.
Abstract: A fast Fourier transform is performed under control of stretched out microcode. Sequential data inputs are multiplied by coefficients addressed by microcode in a digital multiplier. The resultant products are sequentially stored in three registers. The product stored in the second register is applied as one input to an arithmetic logic unit and the product stored in either the first or the third register is applied as the second input to the logic unit in order to compute the operation pairs (ax.+-. by). The Fourier transform is based on Winograd Fourier transforms modified for only real inputs and to force operations into the form (ax.+-. by). Sample points are initially scaled using the same circuit by performing an OR operation with respect to each sample point and an accumulated OR taken from the output of the ALU. The position of the most significant one bit in the final accumulated OR is indicative of the required scale factor. That scale factor is applied to the multiplier to scale each sample point.
Abstract: A probe-gripper for automated sample preparation systems is disclosed, including a sample tube (12), an annular electrode (18), a barrel (40) surrounding the electrode, the barrel and the electrode being connected to a capacitance measurer, an annular elastomeric member (30) surrounding at least a portion of the electrode, the opposite end portions of the elastomeric member being secured to the electrode with an intermediate portion of the elastomeric member being free from the electrode to create an inflatable bladder, and passageways extending lengthwise of the probe to conduct pressurized fluid to the bladder to expand and contract it between gripping and release positions.
Abstract: Wall mounted connectors are provided in a communications ring network. The connectors join signal carrying lines until a communications node is connected into the network at the connector. When a plug from the node is inserted into the connector socket and rotated, plug contacts on the node plug are brought into contact with fixed, line contacts within the connector. Also, an electrical path through line closing conductors in the connector is broken. When the plug is rotated back and removed from the connector, the ring is again completed through the line closing conductors. The line closing conductors are mounted to a wheel which is driven by the plug. The rotor is positioned within a shielded enclosure formed by two pairs of upper and lower plates connected to the outer conductors of respective coaxial signal lines. A pawl pivoted on a biasing wheel drives the wheel back to the nonrotated position unless the wheel is rotated through half of a full rotation.
Abstract: An exercise rowing machine is disclosed which includes a stationary seat and a rocker assembly. A handle grip coupled to a sprocket assembly drives a flywheel mounted with the rockers assembly. Fins attached to the flywheel provide braking.
Abstract: Encrypted digital information in a data processing system is decrypted using a key which is a word sequence. The key is generated in a hardware module which is a single chip microprocessor. Individual words of the key word sequence generated by the module are generated as a function of a plurality of words of the input key word sequence. To that end, the microprocessor is programmed as a finite state machine. The hardware module may be combined with a storage medium in a software package. The decryption routines and a key sequence to be applied to the key generator are stored with the application software on the storage medium. To decrypt the application software, the stored key sequence is applied to the key generator to obtain an output key sequence. A computer system may include an encryption/decryption module and a key generator module to encrypt software and data prior to outputting the software or data from the system.
Abstract: The invention described herein discloses a method and apparatus for controlling the Hg vapor pressure within a lamp. This is done by establishing and controlling two temperature zones within the lamp. One zone is colder than the other zone. The first zone is called the cold spot. By controlling the temperature of the cold spot, the Hg vapor pressure within the lamp is controlled. Likewise, by controlling the Hg vapor pressure of the lamp, the intensity and linewidth of the radiation emitted from the lamp is controlled.
Abstract: A lateral p-i-n photodetector and a method of forming a lateral p-i-n photodetector in which p- and n-type regions are formed on a semi-insulator or i-type body by allowing metal and p-dopant compounds and metal and n-dopant compounds onto the i-type body. During alloying, p- and n-type regions are formed in the i-type body by diffusion of the dopants from the compounds, leaving the metallic compounds as n- and p-type contacts over respective p- and n-regions. In preferred embodiments, the i-material is either Fe doped InP or InGaAs.
Abstract: An accessory is provided to convert a conventional microscope to a microspectrofluorimeter. The accessory includes a filter disc having bandpass filters separated by opaque segments.
