  • Patent number: 4348448
Abstract: The present invention is directed not only to a method for processing composite sheet material comprising a substrate to one flat surface of which a facing has been laminated but also to the resulting article of manufacture. The process permits the facing material to be shaped to a predetermined, curvilinear configuration. This result may be accomplished by incising a groove in that surface of the substrate opposite the surface thereof to which the facing is laminated so as to provide a freeform span of the facing. Adhesive is applied to selected portions of the substrate, and a predetermined charge of foam forming reactants are deposited along the groove. Thereupon the freeform span is bent to the desired configuration and, if required, so maintained while the foam forms and the adhesive sets.

  • Patent number: 4347268
Abstract: The invention herein disclosed provides a method for preparing fluoroelastomer film compositions including the steps of dissolving a fluoroelastomer gum selected from the group consisting of copolymers of vinylidene fluoride and hexafluoropropylene, and terpolymers of vinylidene fluoride, hexafluoropropylene and tetrafluoroethylene in a solvent, adding a vinyl copolymer to the gum solution, evaporating the solvent and leaving a film. A method is also provided for adhering fluoroelastomer film compositions, devoid of metallic oxides, to substrates which includes the steps of dissolving the fluoroelastomer gum in a solvent, adding a vinyl copolymer to the gum solution, coating the substrate with the fluoroelastomer gum-vinyl copolymer solution, evaporating the solvent and leaving a cured film firmly adhered to the substrate. The fluoroelastomer film compositions disclosed herein are also novel and can be used to coat a variety of substrates thereby providing other novel, useful articles.

  • Patent number: 4346635
Abstract: A slitter and readily removable head includes a drive housing and an idle housing projecting from a base with the arbors for the slitting knives extending between the housings. The lower arbor is journaled in vertically movable blocks with a jack system in the base thus moving the lower arbor. The idle housing and arbors are movable on the base as a unit away from the drive housing so that the idle housing and arbors may readily be removed and replaced. The lower arbor journal block of the idle housing includes a T-slot socket engageable with one or more jacks at a certain horizontal position so that arbors of different length may be employed. The idle housing and arbors forming the removable head contain no gearing, jacks, jack drive connections or fluid or electrical lines requiring connection or disconnection. A turntable may be employed to move the disconnected head to a storage or retooling location.

  • Patent number: 4340853
Abstract: An electrically surge protected motor having a submersible housing (10) can be manufactured and tested for insulation weaknesses by first assembling the motor components in the housing (10) without completing a path to ground therethrough. Then the windings (11, 12) of the motor may be subjected to a voltage surge greater than the voltage magnitude at which the motor is to be surge protected. After completion of the test, a path to ground through an impedance device (17) which establishes the voltage magnitude at which the motor is to be protected may be completed. Several alternative grounding devices (23, 24, 25, 26 or 28) may be provided externally of the housing (10).

  • Patent number: 4335710
Abstract: Brain wave patterns associated with relaxed and meditative states in a subject are gradually induced without deleterious chemical or neurological side effects. A white noise generator (11) has the spectral noise density of its output signal modulated in a manner similar to the brain wave patterns by a switching transistor (18) within a spectrum modulator (12). The modulated white noise signal is amplified by output amplifier (13) and converted to an audio signal by acoustic transducer (14). Ramp generator (16) gradually increases the voltage received by and resultant output frequency of voltage controlled oscillator (17) whereby switching transistor (18) periodically shunts the high frequency components of the white noise signal to ground.
