  • Patent number: 7118078
Abstract: A paintbrush support apparatus for use in a container and a method of controlling the depth bristles of the brush may be dipped into paint in the container, as the paint level falls in the container. The brush support apparatus includes a rotatable disk that is adapted to accommodate the bristles of a brush resting thereon. The disk is physically configured to have an annular, helical thread configuration that cooperates with a mating helical thread structure that is adapted for inclusion in the container. Rotation of the disk causes the disk to move to varying levels in the container from a top of the mating helical thread structure to a bottom of the mating thread structure adjacent the bottom of the container.

  • Patent number: 5664559
Abstract: The invention is directed to a mouth-to-mouth manually manipulated resuscitation mask of the type having a one-way valve through which air is delivered from an operator's mouth to a victim's mouth and lungs through the valve. The resuscitation mask includes a first flexible barrier. The flexible material is capable of providing a sealing contact with a victim's face in a region adjacent the victims mouth. The flexible material has an opening for a one-way valve. A second flexible barrier in the form of a thin sheet of flexible material has an opening the periphery of which is secured to the first flexible barrier and the valve to thereby provide a spatially separated region between the first and second barriers to thereby isolate the mouth and face of the operator from the area where the operator's fingers/hands make contact on the first flexible barrier.

  • Patent number: 5656995
Abstract: The invention is directed to a detection system for detecting object presence in a detection zone and always detecting object departure from the detection zone so as to provide an object presence detection zone output signal indicative of zone occupancy. The system is comprised of a main system control unit mutually responsive to both an object presence signal from the zone and an object departure signal form the zone to provide the object presence detection zone output signal "ON". The object presence detection zone output signal remaining "ON" for a preset time period, which preset time period is retriggered "ON" as long as presence of an object in the zone is detected. The object departure signal causes a discrete moment of departure time delay signal that causes the object presence detection zone output signal to mm "OFF" when no object presence is detected in the zone during the discrete moment of departure time delay.

Abstract: The invention is directed to a multi-stage mouth-to-mouth resuscitation valve in combination with a first valve to allow exhaled breath from a mouth of an operator to pass through the first valve to a mouth of a victim. The first valve is capable of assuming a position where exhaled breath of the victim can escape from the multi-stage resuscitation valve.A second valve is provided to ensure that exhaled breath of a victim which may leak by the first valve does not reach the mouth of the operator. The second valve is positioned between the first valve and the mouth of operator.

  • Patent number: 5533668
Abstract: A bi-directional airflow controllable system for controlling flow of air through an air circulating system to at least one zone an air temperature of which is to be controlled is coupled to an airflow duct to aid or oppose airflow throughout the duct and the system to the zone. The bi-directional airflow controllable system includes a fan positioned to interact with air moving through the system and the duct. The fan is coupled to a motor to be energized to drive the fan in a forward or reverse direction. The fan when driven by the energized motor in a forward direction creates air pressure from the fan to oppose the flow of air from the airflow duct. The fan when driven by the energized motor in a reverse direction aids the flow of air from the airflow duct. A bi-directional airflow control unit is electrically coupled to the motor.

  • Patent number: 5413278
Abstract: The invention is directed to a method and apparatus for controlling airflow in a given direction in an air circulating system in which the method comprises the steps of:(a) placing a motor driven fan in the air circulating system in such a manner that the fan, when driven by the motor, creates pressure in a direction opposing the given direction of airflow, and(b) activating the motor to drive the fan to cause the airflow moving in said given direction to be diminished because of said opposing pressure. The apparatus is directed to an air flow controllable register for controlling a flow of air through the register from a register air flow supply duct in response to an externally provided control signal that commands differing airflow rates through the register. More specifically, the air flow controllable register includes a register flow control unit that includes a rotary mounted fan positioned within the register airflow supply duct. The fan is coupled to a motor.

  • Patent number: 5364304
Abstract: The invention relates to an air flow controllable register unit for controlling flow of air through the register from an air circulating system having a register air flow supply duct. The air flow is controlled in response to an externally provided control signal that commands the register flow control unit to provide differing air flow rates through the register. The register unit includes a register flow control apparatus which has a power generating device that includes a rotary mounted air turbine positioned within the register air flow supply duct. The air turbine is coupled to a generator to drive the same upon air flow against blades of the turbine. The air driven turbine initially restricts air flow of the register at system start-up.

  • Patent number: 5271558
Abstract: The invention is directed to a control system for an air delivery system having a supply duct through which air is delivered into at least one independently controlled zone or room through an air delivery register. The control system for one zone or room includes a wireless air flow control thermostat to transmit a wireless air flow control signal output to an electrically powered and electrically self sufficient register air flow control unit that controls the flow of the air through the register in response to receiving the wireless airflow control signal output. The electrically powered and electrically self sufficient register air flow control unit includes an electrical generator to provide power in response to flow of air through the register from the supply duct. The generated electric power is delivered to the register air flow control unit to thereby maintain the register flow control unit electrically self sufficient and free from the need of any outside electrical power source.

  • Patent number: 5144851
Abstract: The invention is directed to a jam tolerant ballscrew actuator. The ballscrew actuator is driven through a differential via plural power paths therein. A first of these differential power paths is drivingly coupled to a reciprocating dual ballscrew assembly by way of a rotatable ballnut. A second of the differential power paths is coupled to the dual ballscrew assembly via a rotatable hub having a splined opening therethrough. A reciprocating sleeve having a splined portion engages the sleeve shaft to reciprocate therethrough and be rotated by the rotatable hub. The sleeve shaft additionally includes a rotatable sleeve ballnut portion that drivingly cooperates with the dual ballscrew assembly. The reciprocating rotatable sleeve provides the ballscrew actuator output. The rotatable ballnut and the rotatable sleeve ballnut have equal but opposite leads which provide an axial motion summing characteristic for the dual ballscrew assembly.

  • Patent number: 5133638
Abstract: This invention relates to a unitary centrifugal fluid fuel pump diffuser ring assembly for use between a low pressure source of fluid on a fluid input side of the diffuser ring and a high pressure fluid exit side of the diffuser ring. In the preferred embodiment of the invention a diffuser ring is disposed in mating engagement between a pair of support structures. The diffuser ring is provided with separate fluid sealing units disposed between a first and a second side of the diffuser ring. The fluid sealing units cooperate with the support structures to provide on the first and the second sides of the diffuser ring regions which are free from the effects of the aforenoted low and high pressures. This arrangement results in a reduction in the force required to hold the diffuser ring and the support structures in a unitary assembly free of fluid leakage.

  • Patent number: 5090868
Abstract: This invention relates to a centrifugal pump, bearing housing, diffuser ring, and volute housing fastening arrangement in which a plurality of containment pump bolts pass through, in one direction, corresponding openings in the bearing housing, the diffuser ring, and the volute housing, whereas gear box mounting bolts pass through in an opposite direction corresponding openings in the bearing housing, the diffuser ring, and the volute housing. The mounting bolts are secured in a portion of a gear box. The mounting bolts therefore provide a function of providing pressure containment for the pump in the event that a containment pump bolt or fastener is missing or ineffective, in which case a load carried by a missing pump bolt is carried by a nearby mounting bolt. The containment pump bolts, having bolt heads adjacent the gear box, to prevent inadvertent torquing during routine maintenance.
