  • Patent number: 5064341
Abstract: A vacuum beam product singulator to singulate "soft" products in an automated order dispensing system (AOS) is comprised of a product cartridge and an inclined conveyor belt. The conveyor belt picks the products from the bottom of the cartridge using a vacuum control element and carries it up the conveyor until it reaches a pinch roller that holds the product ready to be dispensed to a central conveyor of the AOS. Products are picked from the product cartridge by the inclined conveyor in an unbalanced position such that a product will fall off the conveyor unless held by a vacuum generated by the vacuum control element. Thus, random multiplies removed from the cartridge with the picked product fall off the conveyor. The product stream from the hopper is thereby singulated.

  • Patent number: 5065424
Abstract: A remote control telephone service apparatus, for connection into a telephone line between a customer's telephone and a telephone switching central office main distribution frame. One or two selected code numbers are manually input into the apparatus. Later, if these correct code numbers are dialed into the apparatus, an output signal is provided to control changes in interconnect circuitry and to provide pre-recorded voice messages relative to the condition and status of the circuit. If the dialed number does not match the code number, the apparatus will not operate, but will emit a warning message or an alarm. The apparatus may also be used to disconnect a telephone from the main distribution line as long as the receiver is left in an "off-hook" condition. The apparatus will provide pre-recorded information to the customer concerning the status of his service. When the receiver is replaced, the apparatus automatically restores the telephone to full service.

  • Patent number: 5056373
Abstract: In the measurement of fluid flow, the generation of a linearly varying signal and a pulsation free display are provided by a flow responsive indicator having digit displays for numerically indicating the rate of measured flow. The digit displays are driven in accordance with a measured flow signal applied to circuitry for generating an updated display signal from a previous display signal and the current value of the measured flow signal. This analog updated display signal is converted into a digital signal for driving circuitry connected to each of the digit displays. The measured flow signal applied to the indicator is generated at a flow transmitter including a transducer, such as a Hall effect element. This transducer generates a signal varying with flow in response to movement of a vane mounted in proximity thereto.

  • Patent number: 5051729
Abstract: A pressure responsive apparatus having an encoded disc provides preselected pressure indication. The apparatus preferably includes a pressure gauge having a Bourdon tube responsive to an external pressure. The Bourdon tube drives a conventional pointer indicator which has mounted thereto the encoded disc. Light is transmitted to the disc by means of fiber optic cables from a remotely positioned oscillator. Light if reflected by the disc at the preselected pressures and transmitted by fiber optic cables to processing circuitry that responds to reflected light signals as generated by the oscillator. To generate these light signals, light emitting diodes form a light source and the light signals are detected by means of phototransistors. For apparatus detecting two preselected pressures, there is a light source/light detector pair for each pressure. The processing circuitry responding to the outputs of the phototransistors generates visual indications of the preselected pressures.

  • Patent number: 5023463
Abstract: A photonic array bus provides a connectorless, computer backplane-like communication systems for advanced data processing and communications systems requiring operation rates exceeding 1 gigahertz. Components of a multiple component advanced data processing or communications system are coupled to pairs of laser transmitters and laser receivers. The laser transmitter and receiver pairs are arrayed in a coplanar circular fashion about a central disperser lens. A laser transmitter emits a laser beam incident on the central disperser lens. The central disperser lens disperses the laser beam into a coplanar array of laser beams illuminating the laser receivers. Multiple channel operation is achieved by "stacking" along the length of the disperser lens coplanar arrays of pairs of laser transmitters and receivers.
