  • Patent number: 5390123
Abstract: A navigation system having two sensors and two circuits. A travel sensor sends a pulse whenever a vehicle travels a predetermined distance. An angular velocity sensor outputs a voltage corresponding to an angular velocity of the vehicle. A correction circuit calculates the angular velocity from both a reference voltage that corresponds to an angular velocity of zero and an output voltage from the angular velocity sensor. A reference voltage resetting circuit monitors the pulse from the travel sensor; sets, as an effective sampling interval, at least a part of a interval from the end of a predetermined first cancellation interval after the pulse stops until the start of a second cancellation interval prior to a resumption of the pulse; calculates an average value of the output voltage of the angular velocity sensor, which has been periodically sampled during the effective sampling interval; and resets the reference voltage to the average value.

  • Patent number: 5366820
Abstract: A fuel cell system for directly converting chemical energy of a fuel into electric energy electrochemically. A fuel cell has a cathode and an anode. A main hydrogen absorbing alloy supplies hydrogen gas to the anode of the fuel cell during steady-state operation of the system. An auxiliary hydrogen absorbing alloy originally having a higher hydrogen gas absorbing/desorbing equilibrium pressure than the main hydrogen absorbing alloy at an equal temperature supplies hydrogen gas to the anode until the equilibrium pressure of the main hydrogen absorbing alloy, which is supplied an exhaust gas from the fuel cell is equal to a hydrogen gas absorbing/desorbing equilibrium pressure of the auxiliary hydrogen absorbing alloy, the auxiliary hydrogen absorbing alloy receiving the hydrogen gas from the main hydrogen absorbing alloy during steady-state operation.

  • Patent number: 5355607
Abstract: A sub-base for a gun, such as a semiautomatic shotgun, that has a metal receiver. The sub-base of this invention permits a gunsight, such as a telescopic gunsight, to be removably mounted to the top of the gun's receiver with rigidity sufficient to remain in calibration permanently despite recoil. This substantial rigidity is obtained by fastening the sub-base to both sides of the receiver at their thickest parts and by angling the fasteners to maximize their holding power.

  • Patent number: 5347365
Abstract: A synchronizing/separator circuit separates a horizontal synchronizing signal and a vertical synchronizing signal contained within a television signal. A phase locked loop synthesizes a clock signal at 32 fH by phase locking the horizontal synchronizing signal with a divided version of the 32 fH clock signal. The phase locked loop includes a voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) responsive to the phase comparison to perform the phase lock. A circuit separates the run-in clock and caption data in horizontal scanning period 21 H in the vertical blanking interval. A phase comparator receives the run-in clock and phase compares it with the 32 fH clock to produce an alternating control signal which is applied directly to the voltage controlled oscillator for rapid phase locking of the voltage controlled oscillator in preparation for decoding the caption data. The voltage controlled oscillator is controlled by the charging and discharging rate of a capacitor charged by a constant current source.

  • Patent number: 5339246
Abstract: An apparatus for compensating a magnetic heading as indicated by a vehicle's magnetic compass so that the magnetic heading corresponds to a true heading as indicated by signals received in the vehicle from the Global Positioning System. The apparatus includes a computer for calculating compensation factors from successive positions occupied by the vehicle as it travels.

  • Patent number: 5338070
Abstract: The present invention discloses a diameter-reducing member joint device, where connecting a first member to be connected as the boss of a flange joint or composed of relatively large-diameter pipes to a second member to be connected and having an outer diameter smaller than that of the first member, characterized by interposing a diameter-reducing pipe joint, which has at one end a large-diameter connection portion connected to the first member and also at the other end a small-diameter connection portion connected to the second member, between the first and second members to be connected, and by using a ring-like or cylindrical heat-shrinkable member made of a heat-shrinkable type of shape memory alloy.

  • Patent number: 5335602
Abstract: In a bogie for rail vehicles, in particular a driven bogie, with a bogie frame, two or more wheelset units which may comprise at least one drive unit and/or brake unit, connected with the bogie frame via a primary suspension, and a secondary suspension for connecting a vehicle body with the bogie frame, a rigid connecting link extends from at least one of the wheelset units for connecting the bogie to the vehicle body. The rigid connecting link is coupled to the wheelset unit at its inertial pole or center of mass.

  • Patent number: 5318919
Abstract: A manufacturing method of a thin film transistor, wherein a laminated body consisting of an intrinsic amorphous silicon layer and a conductive amorphous silicon layer is formed on a glass substrate, and annealed at low temperatures not higher than 600.degree. C. thereby obtaining a polycrystalline silicon film. The conductive amorphous silicon layer gives girth to a core for polycrystallization, and therefore the intrinsic amorphous silicon layer is easily recrystallized by annealing at low temperatures.

  • Patent number: 5261589
Abstract: Apparatus for cold butt welding of wire provides a die made in one or two pieces with square or angled ends. Its four members can move in both horizontal and vertical directions and still maintain their alignment. Spring forces, similar to those in tuning forks, help maintain alignment without adjustment. The die can be "tuned" for optimal performance with a particular kind or size of wire. Making the die from a single piece of metal greatly simplifies its manufacture.
