  • Patent number: 5538200
Abstract: Apparatus and method for winding sheet material for producing a rewound roll having a smaller central hollow core and a more compact configuration. The material is wound so that a first edge of each layer of the roll terminates in the same plane. By compacting the wound sheet material and providing a smaller central bore, the sheet material is made sufficiently rigid so that it may be cut transversely thereacross adjacent and edge thereof without further compressing the material into the hollow core.

  • Patent number: 5495787
Abstract: An anti-missile missile for preventing an incoming threat missile from impacting a target without requiring impact of the anti-missile missile with the incoming threat missile. The incoming threat missile is provided with a guidance and control system disposed for receiving a source of guidance energy from an external source for guiding the threat missile to impact with the target. The anti-missile missile includes a body having a container carried thereby and a shield device carried in the container for ejection from the container in the vicinity of the threat missile. The shield device is disposed for controlling the amount of guidance energy received by the guidance and control system thereby rendering the guidance and control system ineffective to guide the threat missile to the target. An ejection device is provided for ejecting the shield device in the vicinity of the threat missile.

  • Patent number: 5427650
Abstract: Apparatus and method for separation, recovery, and recycling municipal solid waste and the like by introducing solid waste materials into a rotatable pressure vessel, rotating, pressurizing, adding pH controlling chemicals and heating the pressure vessel and thus the waste material while simultaneously applying a mixing action to the solid waste material. The addition of a predetermined amount of pH controlling chemicals and the application of a vacuum serve to control the moisture content of the final fine organic portion of the processed material. Organic contents of the vessel are pulped and sterilized when processed to facilitate ease of separation and prepare the resulting cellulose material for use.

  • Patent number: 5363152
Abstract: An optical filter which blocks a substantial portion of a selected color of the visual light spectrum from entering one eye. The selected portion is the normal color of an object which is to be viewed by both eyes. The other eye is simultaneously allowed to have a substantial portion of the selected color to enter it. When used to aid a hunter in tracking a blood trail, a substantial portion of the red color (more than 50%) of the blood is blocked from entering one eye while the other eye is allowed to receive a substantial portion (more than 50%) of the red color.

  • Patent number: 5362427
Abstract: Apparatus and method for supporting at least a portion of an article while the article is being formed. A source of self-adhering particles is directed by a particle jetting device, or the like, to a predetermined position in a controlled environment to form the article. A support structure is carried in the controlled environment for substantially rigidly supporting at least a portion of the article during the formation of the article (by build-up of the self-adhering particles). The support structure is a fluid which changes state to a solid responsive to an electrical charge and reverts back to a fluid responsive to removal of the electrical charge.

  • Patent number: 5361994
Abstract: Apparatus and method for separation, recovery, and recycling municipal solid waste and the like by introducing solid waste materials into a pressure vessel having a rotatable section. The vessel is disposed for subjecting the waste material to heat and pressure while simultaneously applying an extruding action to the solid waste material. The extruding action is achieved by a rotatable extruder mechanism carried in the pressure vessel and rotated in response to the rotating section thereof. The rotation forces the processed solid waste material through a pair of constricted areas before the waste material is expelled from the pressure vessel by rotation of the extruder mechanism.

  • Patent number: 5341435
Abstract: Apparatus for detecting and identifying, by video imagery, an object such as a helicopter, having a characteristic temporal signature containing phase and magnitude information. The object is acquired and the video signals are stored and then temporally filtered by a FFT on a pixel to pixel basis. The magnitude and phase of pixel at a predetermined frequency is determined and compared with periodic frequencies generated by known objects, such as helicopter rotors, to determine if the frequency generated by the object matches any of the known frequencies. Further processing determines the number of blades and directions of rotation of the blades which removes ambiguities from frequency only processing.

  • Patent number: 5283694
Abstract: A line projector is described which uses a line projector lens for receiving light from a light source which outputs a beam having a non-circular configuration. The lens receives this non-circular beam as an input and redistributes the non-circular input in two directions as rays which form a line of uniform width and intensity along its length and also forms the line with well defined ends.

  • Patent number: 5194861
Abstract: A system for on-board timing for a vehicle traversing a predetermined course having at least one marker or indicator such as a start/finish line placed on or adjacent the track. A sensor carried on the vehicle senses when the vehicle passes the marker and provides an electrical signal for actuating an on-board timer and display device. A timing circuit is activated as the vehicle passes a predetermined point (marker) the first and subsequent times. The display device displays the time it took to traverse the prior lap while the timing system times and records the time it is taking to traverse the lap being traversed so that this recorded time can be displayed during the following lap. This sequence of operation continues for each of the laps the vehicle traverses.

  • Patent number: 5049858
Abstract: A pulsed conductivity sensor intrusion detection device which uses the conduction of short electrical pulses on or near the surface and the immediately adjoining air above the surface. An intruder causes the propagated signal to change which is sensed by the Pulsed Conductivity Sensor (PCS) and produces an alarm. A path is protected by placing a transmitter and a receiver on either side with the protected region between them. An area is protected by placing transmitter and receivers around the periphery of the area. Pulses are sent from the transmitter to the receiver through the surface and the air immediately above it. The receiver sends the signal to an analyzer where the frequency/amplitude spectrum is determined using Fourier Transform techniques. Pulses are sent ten or more times per second and each is analyzed. By comparing sequential pulses, any change will be detected. Signatures for different subjects have been determined and are used to detect when a human intrusion occurs.
