  • Patent number: 4920609
Abstract: A door closer is set forth having a housing, a plunger rod in the housing with a plunger at the inner end of the rod, and a main spring around the rod between the plunger and a housing end for urging the rod into the housing. An actuator carried at the housing end with an opening for the rod and mounted for transverse sliding motion relative to the rod, with a spring for urging the actuator into a latch space in the rod is utilized. With the door closer connected to a door, the actuator slides into the latch space when the door has been opened, to hold the door open. A further opening movement raises the actuator out of the latch space and a sleeve maintains the actuator raised, permitting closing of the door.

  • Patent number: 4920313
Abstract: A system which detects the presence and bearing of a mass M implemented by having a first field or wave interact with the motion of a charged mass m to produce a second field or wave which is modulated by the tidal effect of mass M. The second field or wave with unique tidal signal is then detected. The system can be implemented as a magnetic resonance spectrometer, gyrotron, cyclotron, Fourier Transform-Mass Spectrometer (FT-MS), or even as a large spinning mass and permits the substantial increase in the sensitivity of practical gravitational mass detectors and gradiometers and thereby permitting the detection of earthbound objects such as ore deposits, ships, submarines, tanks, artillery, and small concealed handguns and may extend gravitational mass detection capabilities to space and galactic objects.

Abstract: A process and apparatus for the recovery of metals such as silver from phosphate flue dust. The process includes the steps of blending chloride salt and the flue dust to produce a blended material, roasting the blended material in an oxygen bearing atmosphere to oxidize carbon in the blended material producing a gas and to react chloride salt with the metal in the blended material producing a water soluble metallic salt, dissolving the metallic salt in water to produce a solution, filtering the solution to remove solids, and precipitating metals from the filtered solution with the precipitate ready for conventional smelting. The preferred embodiment of the apparatus includes a flue dust hopper and mill and a salt hopper and mill for feeding the dust and salt to a radiant tube dryer and a radiant tube asher for blending and roasting the materials, and a spray chamber at the outlet of the asher for separating solids and gases, where certain of the solids go into solution.

  • Patent number: 4914783
Abstract: A sliding hinge for mounting a nose cone or cover on a nacelle or housing, such as an equipment package suspended from the wing of an aircraft. Typically two hinges are used, positioned at opposite sides of the housing, for pivoting the nose cone upward to provide access to the equipment within the housing. Each hinge includes a sleeve mounted in the housing, a slide block sliding in the sleeve, and a slide arm pivotally attached to the slide block and mounted in the nose. To open the package, the nose is initially slid forward from the housing and then pivoted to an upward position. During this operation the slide arm slides out of the sleeve from a retracted position to an extended position and then pivots upward to the open position, with the slide block remaining in the sleeve.
