  • Patent number: 4298102
Abstract: A shock absorber has expansion and compression damping characteristics readily adjustable, if required, to different extents. In one preferred form, it includes an adjustable orifice associated with a piston, and the orifice includes an annular flexible valve element and a valve-seat member engageable with the inner peripheral edge thereof. The valve-seat member is formed at the bottom with feet which are arranged opposite to a stepped or continuously inclined annular top surface portion of the piston and is axially movable for engagement with the latter. The amount of axial movement of the valve-seat member and hence that of deflection of the valve element is adjustable by rotation of the valve-seat member relative to the piston through provision therefor at the top of the cylinder.

  • Patent number: 4294662
Abstract: The invention concerns a process for the final assembly of a nuclear reactor vessel comprising two sub-assemblies which are brought together and welded along mating surfaces. At least three female centering stubs, each associated with a seat recessed relative to the outer surface of the stub, are provided on the mating surface of one of the sub-assemblies, and at least three male centering stubs, corresponding to the seats of the female stubs, are provided on the mating surface of the other sub-assembly, the positions of the stubs being registered relative to elements for positioning internal fitments of the vessel. The two sub-assemblies are brought together to engage the male stubs in the female stub seats and to bring projecting annular ridges on the mating surfaces into contact. A key is inserted into a socket defined by one of the pairs of stubs and the stubs are then joined to each other by point-welds.

  • Patent number: 4293273
Abstract: An axial-flow reversible turbine comprises a nozzle assembly and a wheel rotor mounted consecutively in the direction of the flow of the working medium and provided with two-section blades. One section of said blades forms the flow duct of the direct-rotating turbine and the other section, the flow duct of the counter-rotating turbine. The flow duct of the direct-rotating turbine incorporates a valve in the form of variable-incidence airfoil vanes intended to deny the access of the working medium into said duct. The inside diameter of the flow duct of the counter-rotating turbine is larger than the outside diameter of the flow duct of the direct-rotating turbine. • Patent number: 4288975
Abstract: According to this invention, a spinning rotor is increased in speed until it reaches a predetermined higher speed beyond a lower speed region and then decreased in speed until it falls within the lower speed region, in which a yarn ending is effected. Thereafter, the speed of the spinning rotor is increased to a normal spinning speed beyond the predetermined higher speed. During rotation of the spinning rotor at the predetermined higher speed, sufficient subatmospheric pressure is produced in the spinning rotor to stretch out the yarn end thereby to prevent the yarn end from being snarled. Also, during this higher speed rotation of the spinning rotor, sufficient fibers in the spinning rotor can be collected in a maximum diameter portion in the spinning rotor to be connected with the snarl-free yarn end in a favorable condition.
