Abstract: A radiation curable coating composition for various substrates contains an adduct of acrylic acid and a diepoxy resin modified with an anhydride, such as maleic anhydride, and a low boiling alcohol and/or ketone vehicle. The coating composition can be pigmented and can also contain additives commonly used in coatings, such as wetting agents and flow control agents. The coating composition does not require the usual hydrocarbon vehicles that give rise to air pollution problems or reactive monomer vehicles that can create health hazards.
Abstract: Poly-1,2-epoxy resins, such as diglycidyl ethers of bisphenols, are hydrolyzed at high solids content in organic solvents, such as hexoxyethanol. The hydrolyzed epoxy resins are used in coating formulations (aqueous emulsions or solutions) together with curing agent and, optionally, a catalyst for cross-linking.

Abstract: Load-carrying properties of gear oils are increased by the addition of triazole derivatives obtained by reacting benzotriazole or an alkylbenzotriazole with alkylphosphates, alkylphosphonates, or primary fatty amines, a naphthenyl oxazoline, or an alkenylsuccinyl mono- or bis-oxazoline.
Abstract: There are provided linear polyesters of 1,6-hexanediol, short chain alkylene glycol, a phthalic acid, and optionally adipic acid. These polyesters are combined with an aminoplast and acid catalyst to form coating compositions which, when applied to a substrate and baked, provide a coating having an outstanding combination of flexibility, hardness, adhesion, extendability, dry heat resistance, weather resistance, and exterior color fastness.
Abstract: A composition comprising a pesticidal organothiophosphorus compound and a clay carrier in combination with a mixture of an alkylene glycol and an acid thereby providing compositions of high storage stability; said composition being useful, among other pesticidal control, for highly effective control of corn rootworm.
Abstract: There is provided an acidic ester of a polyepoxy resin, preferably diglycidyl ether of a bisphenol, esterified with an aliphatic dicarboxylic acid. The acid ester is dispersed in alcoholic solvents and water, with a volatile base and further blended with a cross-linking agent and non-ionic surfactant to afford an aqueous dispersion useful as a heat curable coating for beverage cans, coil stock, fabricated metal, and the like.
Abstract: The toughness of low density polyethylene film is increased by incorporating therein a small amount of an ethylene-propylene copolymer containing between about 65 and about 85 percent ethylene and having between about 1 percent and about 20 percent crystallinity. When the film is to be subjected to relatively high temperature storage, as in a warehouse, blocking is avoided by the addition of between about 0.5 and about 5 weight percent finely-divided filler. Seal performance of low density polyethylene film was significantly improved by incorporating the ethylenepropylene copolymer.
Abstract: A water-based coating composition is provided that is suitable for food packaging, such as in coating metal containers. The composition comprises a water-dilutable resin, solubilized with ammonia or an amine, dissolved in water or mixtures of water and an alcohol or an ether alcohol into which is dispersed polyvinyl chloride.
Abstract: There is provided a polyol intermediate that is the reaction product of neopentyl glycol with dimethyl glutarate in a 2:1 molar ratio. This reaction product is polyesterified with a phthalic acid reactant and neopentyl glycol to form a polyester resin. The resultant resin is admixed with an aminoplast and reduced to about 60-75 weight percent solids content with an aromatic hydrocarbon or a mixture of aromatic hydrocarbons to produce a thermosetting coating composition for metal substrates. Films made from this coating composition are hard and tough. They have excellent fabrication characteristics, high reverse impact resistance and excellent flexibility properties and solvent resistance.
Abstract: A resin is provided which is the adduct of a bisphenol and a diglycidyl ether of a bisphenol reacted with an anhydride to an Acid No. of 35 to 150. This resin is solubilized with a volatile amine, ammonia, or NH.sub.4 OH in a solvent mixture of water, alkoxyethanols, alcohols, and alkyl ethers of diethylene glycol and combined with an aminoplast to produce a coating composition utilizable to coat metal surfaces that will contact a food or beverage, such as in metal packaging containers.

Abstract: A water reducible epoxy ester is prepared by reacting an epoxy resin, preferably a diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A, with a monocarboxylic acid (C.sub.8 -C.sub.18) and a dibasic acid (e.g., azelaic acid) followed by reaction with trimellitic anhydride and neutralization of free carboxyl groups. This material is dispersed in an aqueous vehicle, applied to a metal substrate, and baked.
Abstract: A cutting oil composition comprises a major amount of mineral lubricating oil and minor amounts of (A) a sulfurized oil and (B) the reaction product of a polyalkenylsuccinic anhydride with a polyethyleneglycol or a polypropyleneglycol or such reaction product further reacted with sulfur or with phosphorus pentasulfide.
Abstract: A radiation curable coating composition for various substrates containing an adduct of acrylic acid and an epoxy resin (which may be modified with an anhydride, such as maleic anhydride), and a reactive acrylate monomer vehicle. The coating composition can be pigmented and can also contain additives commonly used in coatings, such as wetting agents and flow control agents. The coating composition does not require the usual hydrocarbon vehicles that give rise to air pollution problems. Surface gloss of a UV cured film obtained from a pigmented coating composition can be increased by using a photosensitizer combination of 2-chlorothioxanthone and a phenyl ketone, such as benzophenone. Adhesion of a cured coating is improved by replacing the tertiary amine co-sensitizer, at least in part, with dimethylaminoethyl acrylate.
