  • Patent number: 4142215
Abstract: A portable tester for testing tape drive units, which provides means for generating a selective repetitive composite data pattern, which includes a direct pattern and a reverse pattern which is an inverted image of the direct pattern, and writing the composite pattern on tape. Means are provided for reading the composite pattern off the tape and providing a read signal which is the result of amplifying and differentiating the signal from the read head. Means are provided for applying this read signal to an oscilloscope in a conventional manner, and to trigger the sweep of the oscilloscope at a selected time in advance of a critical portion of the read signal, for each of the direct and reverse patterns. Thus, an analog pattern signal will be displayed on the oscilloscope screen for the critical parts of both the direct and reverse portions of the pattern, for tape movement both direct and reverse.

A large inverted U-frame is set on rollers which are adapted to travel longitudinally along the long sides of the track. The frame is large enough to completely encircle the truck and body can be moved readily along the track so as to be opposite any point on the side walls of the body where pulling or pushing operations are required. A folding platform is attached in a slidable manner to the sidewalls of the frame so as to position the platform at any level on either side of the body. Hydraulic locking means are provided to lock the frame in any selected position so as to withstand any pulling and pushing forces required.

  • Patent number: 4134782
Abstract: This invention involves the method and apparatus for simultaneously placing a coating of a selected material on the outer surface of an extended cylindrical object such as a pipe or conduit, and holding the coating in position by wrapping the coating with a strip of thin film formed to a cylindrical contour and sealed with a longitudinal seam. This is accomplished in one mode by inserting the pipe through a tubular concentric mandrel, wrapping and sealing the plastic film against the mandrel and injecting the coating material through the annular space between the pipe and the mandrel and thus into the space between the pipe and the sealed plastic film. Using heat shrinkable plastic the film forms a tightly fitting cover for the pipe coating material.

  • Patent number: 4134061
Abstract: Apparatus for measurement, above the surface of the ground, of an electrical current flowing in a buried pipeline, comprises a pair of magnetic flux detectors oriented with their axes vertical, and spaced apart, in a frame, which is moved along the earth at a substantially constant elevation above the surface, with the plane through the two vertical detectors substantially perpendicular to the direction of the pipe. Means are provided, including a vertical core and coil centered on the frame, for indicating the position of the frame laterally with respect to the buried pipe. There is also a second core and coil displaced laterally from the first core and coil, for determining the depth of the pipe below the frame. When the frame is centered over the pipe and there is current in the pipe, flux will pass upwardly through a first flux detector core and downwardly through the second flux detector core.

  • Patent number: 4127852
Abstract: A power use peak load alarm system which is triggered by a specific combination of audio tones received by way of a fixed tuned AM or FM receiver located in the user's facility. The receiver is equipped with a filtering system to reduce the probability of false triggering. Upon receipt of the alarm signal, the alarm system goes into an alarm condition consisting of a visual alarm and an audio alarm. The visual alarm consists of a blinking alarm light while the audio alarm provides full output volume at the receiver for receipt of an alarm message or other audible alarm signal. The received alarm signal will initiate a timer circuit which will hold the receiver in an alarm condition for a preset time interval. During the alarm interval, certain relay contacts are made which may be connected to turn off non-essential electrical equipment or switch to a dual register/dual rate meter or both.

Abstract: An improved contour for logs which are to be assembled one on top of the other for producing walls, etc. for log cabins. The contour includes a pair of plain parallel surfaces, one on the top, and the other on the bottom of the log, as installed. In the preferred embodiment the top surface carries a pair of spaced parallel tongues of trapezoidal cross-section, and the bottom surface carries substantially a mirror image, in the form of two grooves which are adapted to fit over the tongues on the log immediately adjacent below. On either side of the tongues and grooves are two shelves which are approximately horizontal. However, on the top surface they slope at a small angle A downwardly from the horizontal, to their lips at the intersection with the outer contour of the log.
