Abstract: A relaxation oscillator having a programmable unijunction transistor for producing an A.C. voltage. A variable portion of the A.C. voltage is selected and operates connected transistor amplifiers, which in turn cause an amplified A.C. voltage to be induced in a transformer. A voltage multiplier further increases the voltage and produces an output D.C. signal.
Abstract: An acoustical ear muff arrangement having an identical acoustical sealing muff for each ear, the muffs being connected together by an adjustable spring wire structure for holding a muff over each ear. Each muff has a dish-shaped portion with elastomeric foamed material therein, and with a novel non-foamed elastomeric seal around the periphery of the dish-shaped portion. The non-foamed elastomeric seal has three lips extending from a base section. The lips have a tapering configuration and extend at angles within a critical range from the base section.
Abstract: A cylindrical housing has a rod attached to one interior end thereof. A tube extends out of an open end of the cylindrical housing and is attached to the rod. A space is formed between the interior of the cylindrical housing and the rod such that large quantities of gauze may be received onto the rod within the housing. A flexible seal at the open end of the housing keeps the gauze within the housing clean and sterile but allows the gauze to be selectively pulled from the interior of the housing as needed. A gauze cutter is disposed around the open end of the housing. The cutter can remain stored in this position whether or not gauze is being removed. A cap is provided to cover the entire open end of the housing as well as the tube and the cutter.
Abstract: A vending device for use in article dispensing machines is disclosed wherein a continuous loop conveyor periodically carries a plurality of dispensing units, each unit adapted by means of a biased spring clip member to releasably hold an article to be dispensed, past a stationary cam, whereupon coaction by the dispensing unit with the cam causes the dispensing unit to release and dispense the article.
Abstract: An apparatus for sampling a liquid includes a container for immersible in the liquid with a capillary tube liquid inlet. Gas outlet means communicating with the container, the gas outlet means defining an orifice restricting outflow of gas from the container, and the gas outlet means also defining a gas release port for location, in use, below the surface of the liquid, and adjusting means for adjusting the vertical position of the gas release port with respect to the liquid inlet so as to regulate the rate of flow of gas from the container.
Abstract: A blood oxygenator comprising a first embodiment of a fluid tight housing having a chamber formed therein one end of which is fluid connected by a conduit to a source of blood to be oxygenated, the other end fluid connected for returning oxygenated blood to the source, a plurality of liquid impermeable, gas permeable tubes extended through the chamber for transferring therethrough oxygen at a pressure higher than the partial pressure of the oxygen in the blood, and one or more membranes forming a sealed cavity in the chamber, with openings formed in the housing for tranferring a fluid, such as oxygen into and out of each cavity, movement of a membrane mixing and pumping the blood flowing through the chamber; a second embodiment wherein baffles are disposed within the chamber no membranes being present, for directing the blood as it flows from the one end to the other end in a continually reversing path with the blood normally flowing normal to the tubes for nonmechanical agitation of the blood; and a third em
